Dez for Montgomery? (1 Viewer)

I am hurting for RB slightly (I have David Johnson) ... (I have Ajayi, Cohen, Abdullah, Buck Allen, Breida, T. Coleman and D'Onta Foreman)

It's a Full Dynasty league with no PPR.

I am pretty well off on WR (Jordy, Hopkins, Dez, Landy, Parker, Garcon, Golliday, Funchess, and John Ross)

Should I trade Dez for Montgomery? (TBH I was even considering tossing in something else too?)

This seems a little off.  But if the other owner takes it, I would do it.  I think Montgomery is valued slightly higher than Dez, so you may have to throw in another player to make it even.  If I were the other owner, I would be asking for Jordy.  The thing about Dez is that he has faced three tough tough secondarys so he is due for a big game moving forward.

I would take a stab at this trade for sure. I think their value is similar because Montgomery doesn't get an extra boost with it being a non-PPR league. Dez will have better games but facest the toughest schedule this season for #1 receivers so his production will be up and down.

He didn't ask for Jordy, he likes the Cowboys. lol (And yea, It seems like he wants me to toss in a bit extra, but I am thinking I can do something small)

He also benches Montgomery every week ... he has Bell, Gurley, Gordon and Hunt (:p yea, lucky *******!! lol)

Wow. That's a nice RB lineup. Yeah, if he has you throw in a little extra it's worth it depending on what that is.

See this is where I go against the grain.  Montgomery is his RB5.  He's never going to use him. You should approach him with an attitude of "look, I'm giving you Dez for your RB5, if you want to keep wasting Montgomery's points on your bench then go for it.  You obviously haven't gotten any better offers for him since he's still on your team."

It's your job as a salesman to make him see he's screwing himself by sitting on so much talent and not putting it to use.

On a side note:  we have an owner in our long time 12 team league who loves to hoard QBs.  Every year he's the guy that drafts Brady/Brees early, then grams Cam in the middle and Cousins a couple rounds later thinking he's got lots of trade bait now.  Then he turns around and starts throwing out offers of Cousins for Cooks as soon as the Cooks owner's QB has a bad game.  He thinks because he's got the supply, that the demand should be there to meet it.  We've all basically come to an unspoken agreement that we just make him eat those QBs.  He wastes roster spots, and misses out on waiver pickups, and eventually he'll hit a hard bye week with an injury on top and end up having to drop the price of his QBs.

Absolutely this. Unless Dez is just going to eat bench as well, in which case you're only moving around his depth and that sales pitch is a bit weaker. If he wants something extra, then you want someone better. That's how I'd approach it.

The bold is true to some extent but keeping RB depth away from other owners is a benefit because RB's are typically the most likely to get injured.  So even though he may have 4 other quality starters holding out for a good offer for Montgomery isn't a bad way to go either.

Bottom line is you have to figure out a way to get the deal done since it will be a bigger benefit to you to have Montgomery over Dez.   Ideally a one for one swap seems reasonable but throwing in something else (3rd or 4th round pick in the future) could work to make him seem like he is getting a little more.

he decided he didn't want  Dez anymore and wanted picks

SO I gave him my 1st in 2018 and my 2nd in 2019 for Montgo and a 4th in 2018. Got him in my lineup and felt great... for about 10 mins :P

I know... if I can squeak out a few wins over the next weeks and stay in a playoff spot, I will be fine. I'll get Montgomery and David Johnson back at the end and mess people up in the playoffs!! lol
