All I can find is old news on Google. He mentioned in early September that he would miss a game if needed, and I was just wondering if that time is close.

Thanks

My guess is they've got an early week C section scheduled so he just misses some practice time.

I hope she goes into labor tomorrow...

Jim O'Connor-US PRESSWIRE

Steelers quarterback and soon-to-be first-time dad Ben Roethlisberger suggested on a national radio program his son could be born "in about two weeks." Consider it the official launch of the "Ben Roethlisberger Baby Pool."

Consider this, the official Ben Roethlisberger Baby Pool.

Shrewdly picked up by Tribune-Review reporter Mark Kaboly, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was on the Dan Patrick Show Friday. As Patrick was grilling him about names for his soon-to-arrive newborn son, Roethlisberger told him he'd "let you know in two weeks."

Ed Bouchette had a 1-on-1 with Roethlisberger many moons ago, when Roethlisberger suggested the due date was sometime around the end of November into the beginning of December. Roethlisberger also said he would miss a game to be present at the birth of his son.

The question has been when that game would be.

In an odd happenstance, the Steelers are scheduled to play the Baltimore Ravens twice in three weeks, with a game against the Cleveland Browns in between. Three consecutive AFC North games, after only playing one through the first nine games.

The Steelers have games on Nov. 18 (vs. Baltimore), Nov. 25 (at Cleveland) and Dec. 2 (at Baltimore). Being present at the birth of his son is and should absolutely be his No. 1 priority. Cleveland, though, isn't far, and it's feasible if the child is born in the earlier part of the week leading up to the game, he could miss some practice time and still play. Best of both worlds, if you will.

Considering practice schedules - not to mention the possibility of the Roethlisbergers simply planning to induce labor around a time where Roethlisberger could conceivably take a day or two off, practice, play in a game, take another day or two off and continue in that kind of a fashion.

As for the pool, here are the rules, no prizes, just bragging rights. Select the date and time to the minute. Whomever is the closest (times rounded up) wins (all times Eastern).

I'm taking 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26.

Saw him at Patron in Wexford today. Wife still very pregnant.

On a side note, he didn't have more than two minutes where anyone left him alone.

The perfect FF compromise....we've established that it is fairly uncool to be happy that someone is injured and wont play against your FF team - and even more #####-ish to actually hope someone gets injured. But we can hope his wife delivers a baby and he doesn't play, right? I mean, that's not even a bad thing! :banned:

We doing a pool? I'll take Black Friday (11/23), 4:20 p.m.
She delivers waiting In line at best buy for a new DVD player for ben.
When we had our first (1998), the last few weeks we would go to the mall to walk around. Michigan winters, where else can you go for a walk, etc. Our OB/GYN had told us that walking might help induce. I remember a department store lady telling us she see's very preggo ladies doing exactly that all the time. So, yeah, this actually a pretty good call.

Ben Roethlisberger reiterated that he will be with his wife for the birth of his son even if he has to miss a game.

Roethlisberger's first child is due in roughly two weeks. "There's no question what I'm going to do," he said. "I have 100 percent support from my teammates, my coaches and from Mr. Rooney. Everyone felt that was the right thing to do." If Big Ben's wife does go into labor on a Sunday, Byron Leftwich would be pressed into action.

He forgot to mention his publicist and/or PR person. I love the player so I'm not trying to bag on him but two rape charges and the scathing SI article forced Big Ben into heavy PR mode. He's still got fences to mend and if he played while his wife gave birth he'd take a few steps back in the PR department. In some cases there are players who could turn playing while your wife gave birth into an incredibly unselfish act for the team but he can't play it that way.

Just what we need...offspring from Big Rape.

Fast forward 17 years when pampered/entitled Lil Rape starts cornering women in bathroom stalls.

Odd.

Last week Chicago CB Charles 'Peanut' Tillman, the NFL leader in forced fumbles and one of the top names being mentioned for NFL Defensive MVP of 2012 openly stated he would be by the side of his pregnant wife if she went into labor at game time on the brink of a huge game with the Houston Texans.

He got soo much grief from da Bears fans and media types that by the end of the week he caved into the intense public scrutiny over his public declaration that he would be by the side of his wife when his baby was to be born even if it meant missing a big football game.

Tillman's decision set off a firestorm of media debate and it was covered on ESPN's dailey podcast of Football Today with Ross Tucker on one side and the other two guys on the podcast on the other side and then one of the guys said something VERY INTERESTING.

He said, what if you FAKED AN INJURY? Or if you got hit you told the coaches that your injury was worse than it really was so you could MISS A BIG GAME and not face the public grilling. Thereby you got to be at the side of your wife and witness the birth of your child and then you could miraculously get healthy AFTER the birth of your baby and rejoin your team and everyone would be happy.

Big Ben injury could be significant

The injury Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered to his throwing shoulder Monday night could be pretty significant, one that could take a while to heal, a source close to the team said.

Roethlisberger is "extremely sore" Tuesday morning and "hurting pretty bad," the source said. He is headed to get another MRI, which will give the team a better idea of the significance of the injury to his right shoulder.

It seemed highly unusual and perhaps an indication of the seriousness of the injury that Monday night Roethlisberger went from the stadium to the hospital for an MRI on his right shoulder so late at night and remained there past midnight.

Sources say initial reports on Roethlisberger show a sprain, but a source who was with Roethlisberger on Monday night told ESPN that doctors informed the quarterback they wanted further evaluations and that a complete diagnosis wouldn't be available until later Tuesday...

The word I got was that when the scandals went down, the Rooney's sat down with Big Ben and told him two things were going to happen. He was going to do exactly what they said from now on. Or he could face the legal situation alone and end up in prison. Apparently the Rooney's did a massive clean up job on both incidents. Leverage from above using their influence with local politics, other owners in other cities, law enforcement, city officials, etc. Then the Rooneys, with leverage from the Maras, basically half of the major players in the giant TV contracts for the leagues, ordered almost complete spin control in the press. Generally speaking, from what I've been told, the Rooneys told Big Ben he was going to find a girl and get married within a year and be a family man or they would let him swing in the wind. All his talk, IMHO, is Rooney induced PR spin, Big Ben is a great QB and a great player, but he basically sold his freedom for his freedom, he's just a puppet, the hand shoved up his backside making him crow and jabber belongs to a Rooney. One of the interesting aspects of the Tiger Woods scandal was not all of the women who were named or came forward asked for money. Or tried to profit from it. One of the girls that Woods slept with was the daughter of a neighbor. When it was one girl coming forward, you can spin that in the media, but all the other girls need to come forward, even without a cash incentive in mind. The difference between coming forward or not is getting run through the media for 2 months and then having it die down half a year later. Or being at a stop light, and having someone drag you halfway out of your car, shoot you in the head 5 times and make it look like a car jacking. I'm not sure that most of these women understand that public disclosure was more about their personal physical safety than an avenue for profit and financial settlement. All PR posturing. It would sell better if Big Ben had just a shade more charisma than a half dead gorilla. Great QB1 though. It's funny, James Harrison is always the one bringing up race, but it's Big Ben who is the slave.

Thanks for the info. It is great to have FBGs that are tight with NFL owners and have the inside story they don't mind sharing on an internet board. Please also fill us in on the time when the Rooneys told Hines Ward he had to go on "Dancing With the Stars" and used their influence to bribe the judges and threatened Sugar Ray Leonard that if he didn't take a dive James Harrison was going break his thumbs.
