Did I just read Jason Taylor will be a no show all off season? (1 Viewer)

For the record, Taylor's skills have not diminished yet. Name another DE/DL that has 8 TD on their resume playing currently in the NFL...I don't think you can do it.
What does one thing have to do with the other? If you have 8 TDs, your skills can't diminish? I don't get it.

This guy can rush the QB and drop back in coverage from the DE position, it's crazy that someone would write he has diminishing skills in the post above.
You honestly thought Jason Taylor was as good in '07 as he was in '06? I'd love to read the spin on this one.

Are you kidding??? Jason Taylor had 11 sacks, a defensive TD, 3 fumble recoveries, and 46 tackles, up from 41 the year he won Defensive Player of the Year...where exactly are his skills eroding? Not to mention that he played for the worst team in the NFL not just last year but for several years going strong. Taylor in '05: 12.0 sacksTaylor in '06: 13.5 sacksTaylor in '07: 11.0 sacksOn second thought, I bet Parcells wants to keep Taylor because he knows he won't be able to replace him. Teams were sleeping this off season in not trying to trade for him. Shawn Merriman went from 17.0 sacks down to 12.5 last season so I guess his skills are eroding? How many defensive TD does Merriman have??? The reason I bring up SM is because you're a Boltsfan, you probably don't like Taylor for his remarks a year ago, and I think you are being short sighted. Is Taylor at the end of his career? Of course, but he has a good 3-4 seasons still left, look at his frame and how athletic that guy is. He is not aging as fast as others have in this league.

I personally don't understand why people are surprised at how Parcells is handling the situation in Miami.

It is the SAME everywhere he has gone to rebuild. EVERYONE has to prove themselves to him. THERE IS NO PAST - not whether you are Ricky Williams or Jason Taylor. Everyone gets a clean slate. It is all about now and today. You have to show him what you are about. Ricky has to love it. Jason probably wants to take what he has already accomplished as part of his resume.

Jason obviously feels he has earned a level of respect (and he has). But no way does Parcells come in and just hand Taylor that respect without Taylor putting in the effort for him. That is just how Parcells works. This is called breaking up the locker room politics and reshaping the team. And it works.

 If I took over a business and there was some hotshot prima donna who thought he didn't have to put in the time that the others do because of what he has done in the past, I don't think I would treat him too warmly. Conversely, if there was this other guy who was busting his tail because he had made some bad decision in the past, I would be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Just want to say "Good Job, Bill!"

Lets just force one of the best De's in game not to mention one best role models in the NFL, to retire early.

That's exactly what the Dolphins and NFL needs.

Man, the egos are getting a litlle too big.

Exactly...Taylor doesn't do steroids, Taylor isn't getting arrested for anything, Taylor was Man of the Year last year and Defensive Player of the Year in '06. People on this board need to check themselves a tad.You don't like the Miami Dolphins or Jason Taylor, no problem. I don't particular care for Tom Brady and the NE Patriots, however I have respect for what Brady has done, and even thru the spygate stuff I don't completely dismiss their 3 SB. Probably not the best example, but Taylor is a role model...this crap about him having to come in and prove himself all over again is hogwash. If that's the case, I support him even more for wanting to get out of Dodge. I like what Parcells is doing from a draft standpoint and overhauling the team...and if he doesn't want Jason Taylor, fine. But do it like they did with Zach Thomas, either cut him or trade him for a little less than what you might think he is worth and be gone with him. There are no other superstars on the team other than Taylor. You will have done away with everything that was the Miami Dolphins a couple of years ago...that's fine, we only won 1 game with Taylor last year. But lets not pretend he has eroding skills, lets not pretend he isn't one of the best on the game right now, lets not pretend that Taylor needs to come in here and work his butt off. He is in amazing shape, and I am sure there are plenty of teams who would love to have his service. If the SD fans don't think they want him, I'm sure the Dallas Cowboys could find room for him, and I'm sure Tony Dungy could put him to good use on that fast speedy DL.

So now Taylor is a prima donna?
"I don't wanna get involved with any offseason workouts. I'm going to go on a dance show instead." "I don't want to play for this team that has loyally employed me for the past eleven years. Instead I want to play for a better one, even though I signed a contract to willingly play for this one that has had only three losing seasons since I have been here in exchange for $8 million a year. I'm going to hold out until I get my way."What would you call him?

I am sure there are plenty of teams who would love to have his service.
Is that why no one wants to offer more than a 4th round draft pick for him?As for your comparison to Tom Brady, when did Brady ever openly lobby for a post-season award by badmouthing a competitor? When did Brady ever forgo offseason workouts so he could go on some BS reality TV show? When did Brady ever hold out because he no longer liked his situation? When did Brady ever decide he was too important to honor his contract? Two years ago, I was a huge JT fan. I would have completely agreed with you that he was a first-rate class act. He was absolutely one of my favorite DEs in the league and of all time, but it turns out he's kind of like that really cute girl that you have a crush on. Once you find out more about her, you realize she's got some real issues.

Well, since you asked...Taylor '06solo tackles: 42assists: 20sacks: 13.5interceptions: 2TD: 2forced fumbles: 9passes defensed: 11NFL Defensive MVPMIA def 17.7pt/gmMIA def 289yd/gTaylor '07solo tackles: 46assists: 9sacks: 11interceptions: 1TD: 1forced fumbles: 4passes defensed: 4MIA def 27.3pt/gMIA def 342yd/gSo, aside from 4 solo tackles, I think his play was diminished across the board last season compared to '06... assists, sacks, interceptions, TD's, forced fumbles, passes defensed, points against and yards against.I don't particularly like him because he was part of the big name/big $ crew of defensive players that turned on Cam Cameron at the end of last season. Taylor/Thomas/Porter may have been better served getting their pent up frustration out on the field so the Dolphins didn't finish the season giving up the third most points in the NFL.No, I didn't really care that much about him campaigning to win a personal award. It may seem silly and self serving but it still doesn't beat THEEZ-man changing his name to to rhyme with an award. Now if he comes up with a snazzy new dance and/or a sequined outfit with "defensive mvp" embroidered on it to try to win an award.... THAT would come close to a THEEZ-man level of self-worship.

First, no one is slighting was Jason Taylor has done in the NFL. Not me. Not Parcells. Not anybody as far as I can tell. And Im a fan of Taylor, Parcells AND the Dolphins. But the point is this shouldn't be about Jason Taylor and it has become about Jason Taylor. It should be about team. It is about losing the name and becoming a number. This is how Parcells always begins rebuilding his teams. You start even. Everyone. And then he figures out what he has and what he needs to fix. This shouldn't be an issue with Jason Taylor, yet somehow it is.Parcells knows what ability he has in Jason Taylor. Jason Taylor should know that the Dolphins know what they have in the player Jason Taylor. Thats why the Dolphins haven't cut or traded the player Jason Taylor. But these are the first workouts. Jason Taylor is needed to be a leader at these break-in workouts for the Team. That is what Parcells expects from veterans. The Team is in the very formative part of a new organization changing the previous losing system. Jason Taylor needs to be there as a model professional. This seems more like Jason Taylor needing to get an ego check instead of just listening to the coaching staff's instructions. These people have a good track record of making players good and good players great. On a side note, unlike so many people, I don't think the cupboard is bare in Miami. Neither should Jason Taylor. I think they took alot of injuries on last year. And though they probably don't touch the Pats this year, IMO they already have the talent/weapons needed to play with them. IMO the offense just needs tinkering. The RB corps can make yards on their own. Ginn is fast and developing (Im sure she will be at camp). I also like Kircus here with the signing of Ernest Wilford as a WR2. You have one good game manager and a couple of young QB prospects. You traded for a TE with good hands. You drafted a bunch of lineman. IMO To be really improved the Dolphins need alot from the linemen they drafted. But if they get 2 good OL out of that draft the offense could shape up very fast. And the defense wasn't that bad last year, they just saw the ball alot and wore down. They improved their LB speed and DTs. I think show them less plays and they could be good again quickly. Now Jason Taylor has been a great DE/LB. My point is that Jason Taylor should be thinking about his Team winning this year, not about what statistics and honors Jason Taylor has personally accomplished prior to this year. Jason Taylor is not a free agent. In this instance, Jason Taylor should stop thinking about Jason Taylor and start doing for team.

HS-What's his actual status right now anyway? Do we have any actual specific quotes to go off regarding his perspective/attitude/standpoint. I havent really heard anything. One day, I heard him on a morning sports radio show saying how he was about to get back to 'work'. The next, or shorty after, Sparano is announcing Taylor isnt going to be attending anything. Why didnt Taylor make that statement? I found that strange that Taylor hasnt stood up and specifically made his case more clearly. It seems like there's more to this situation than we're being led to believe. Straighten me out here.

Im not sure what Taylor's team status is. No quotes. This is Parcells modus operandi. My understanding is simply that Taylor has been pursuing acting leads in California. Basically setting up for life after football. Dancing with the Stars and then some dinners with people in the know. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8...mp;confirm=true

I have no idea what actually transpired between the team and Taylor that would prompt Sparano to make a public comment like that. Chances are Sparano intended it to go directly from the media to Jason Taylor's ear though. That savvy staff didn't just release that statement without motive. My gut is that Taylor was trying to schedule when he could be at camp based on his business schedule and was told it either OTA participation or non participation - all or nothing. But that is just a guess.
