Digital Camera pic of the day (3 Viewers)

Spring is here and soon I'll get my new camera and the real fun will begin. :goodposting:

Until then here is another shot of many I took of the rays in the fog back in December:

Rays

What does it mean when it says there is not enough dynamic range to merge photos for HDR?I set the exposures to -2, 0, +2 on one of my photos in RAW and saved those three different versions. When I tried to merge them, it said not enough dynamic range.Do I need to try -3, 0, +3? Or do I need to do more along the lines of -1,0, +1?TIA
What file format did you save them in after they came out of the RAW converter? The problem is that Photoshop is seeing the EXIF data and is not being deceived by your attempt to alter the exposure as the EXIF data on all 3 photos is the same.I thought that TIF would strip the EXIF data but I am not 100% sure.I know that if you save the files via File->Save For Web it will strip the EXIF data. Don't worry about the warning that your file size is too large, Photoshop expects web size images for this process but should save the file just fine. When you try to do Merge To HDR and there is no EXIF data Photoshop should prompt you to enter exposure information and that is the point where you can enter the -2,-,+2 values.I will see if I can dig up some info on the TIF format as that would be the better way to go because you can leave the files in 16-bit format rather than having the 8-bit conversion done for you in going to JPG (regular JPG files are always 8-bit).

To make a 16 bit PSD or TIF file without EXIF info from an existing file with EXIF info:

* Ensure that you are generating 16 bit files from the converter or you may severely limit the ability of Merge To HDR to generate quality images.

Open a 16 bit PSD or TIF file saved from the RAW converter. Ensure that you are generating 16 bit files from the converter or you may severely limit the ability of Merge To HDR to generate quality images.

Select -> All.

Edit -> Copy.

File -> New. (This should open a new file with the same pixel dimensions as the one one that you just copied everything from but it will not have any EXIF data).

Edit -> Paste.

Layer -> Flatten Image. (No need for layers at this point andit just bloats the size of the file).

Save the new image and Close the original.

Repeat for your other 2 images.

Run Merge To HDR on the new images.

You might consider trying -1,0,+1 if you don't get good results from the -2,0,+2 series. By it's nature a RAW file seldom has much more than 1 EV range in either direction and this can actually work against the quality of the image if you try to extract more info than exists in the RAW.

Nice! I love the sky. Was this an HDR? Doesn't look like it but there are some pretty amazing things being done with HDR.
Not an HDR. I was pretty pleased with how it turned out. Pretty funny that you said that, though.
Mac, I love the horses in the other picture!!
Thank you! I saw them when Bueno and I were riding along the road near his mines. Silly horses didn't want to cooperate and started taking off in all directions. I was lucky to get this shot.
I like the ones that look hidden in the brush. That looks kinda cool.So you guys got to ride horses too? Damn.

Here's a few from the weekend:

Big Yawn

Fungus Among Us

Granite

Melting Ice

Early Spring

The outdoor ones were taken yesterday. Wife and I went out for a walk in the late afternoon. It was kind of a dreary day - tough to get the colors popping.
That melting Ice shot is real nice.
Thanks - that's my favorite of the bunch. Struggled with the EV there. Trying not to overexpose the top and underexpose the bottom left was a challenge. The reflection of the sky/clouds on the water, in addition to the ice is what makes this one work for me.

I like the early spring one.. I'd suggest cropping down a bit down the top so the Stoned walls are at the top to give it more of a Framed look.
I generally don't do any editing at all. I'll crop only if I'm making a print. I should get that $100 PhotoShop package - maybe I'd spend time cleaning the pics up. That would make this one look better, though.

Your photos are good enough to invest in some Photoshop software. You will have a blast.

That's some very cool contrast at work between foreground & background!
I wasn't impressed with my photo, but the scenery sure is beautiful at that park.
It probably could have used -1 or 2 thirds EV to get a bit less of the "washed out" look in the background & sky, but I still think it looks cool.
Yeah. I have a lot of manual settings on my Kodak. But I need to study them a lot more before I am comfortable with them.

Or do like I'm doing and buy a Dslr.. I have the Canon Xti ordered and just waiting for it to arrive.

They have the faeture of Bracketing..

I Can't WAIT to try that out.. ;) :excited: :excited: :excited:

I just spent $200 on this 8MP camera. So it'll be long time before I buy another. Hell, the wife really didn't even want to upgrade our 2.1 MP camera :wall:

Here's the previous photo without the cacti.

Long & winding road

And another from the same trip ...

Wiltingly sharp

Also, my wife recently upgraded lenses and has a Canon 75-300/4.0-5.6 EF III that is no longer being used. I'll likely list in on e-bay soon, but would rather see it go to someone I post with. If anyone is interested in a decent economy zoom, shoot me a PM.

Love that first one.. Too bad you won't allow me to see the larger size..

;)
How do I do that? MArk you as a friend?Edited to add: I marked you as a friend. There are a bunch of not-great photos up there for Bueno that are mining photos that only "friends" can see. I need to delete those off my stream once I know he has them. So ignore those. =)
 :thanks: Now I can enjoy your photos in all their glory!!

New camera.. Bad time of the day... but here a few taken today:

Fluffy

Paperjack Creek Part 2
Shameless bump and to add a new photo..Was just out hiking and scoping out for future photo shoots so not the best lighting but you take what you get.

This was my first attempt at slow shutter capture of any Water falls.

The Falls
The Falls looks good! Did you go Manual, or Shutter Priority?
Thanks..I used Shutter.. This was mainly a Scouting trip and trying out settings on camera. My other POS camera wouldn't work in the daytime using a slow shutter time(all the pictures came out White).

I went as slow as I could until the Ap setting the camera choose started flashing then steped up a heartbeat. I'm looking forward to trying this at sunset as the sun will be setting almost directly behind me.

Just finished a three day solo trip through the West Rim Trail at Zion Park, the highlight was Angel's Landing - if you guys ever get a chance to do this trail/climb you should definitely do it!

I just wish I would have taken a nicer camera along, but I was worried about weight - next time...
