Here is a way of comparing..

Pictures taken the same day and at about the same time:

No polarizer, white sky

Polaizer.. Deep Blue
Snoggs,Can you make a few suggestions to someone that is very new and raw as far as lenses and filters?
I can try.Currently I only have 2 lenses for my canon. For Filters I only have a UV filter and a Polarizer.

I very rarely shot day time shots now without a Polarizer as it really helps with the sky:

As you can see in this shot
Whats the average cost on these filters or lenses? I do not have a great camera or anything just a Canon PowerShot S2 IS.
Well, a quick search shows you can get a set at Amazon for around $25Some others that showed up there
Oh great ! didnt realize it was that simple. Thanks for doing the leg work!
Don't buy cheap filters!!!!! They'll distort your pictures and screw with your colors. Hoyo or B&W or bust. You can buy Hoya filters direct from Hong Kong on ebay for much cheaper. The Pro series is the way to go but there are cheaper even in the Hoya line.
Drifter, these hoyo or b&w's are they made for all camera types. I didnt see any on ebay that match my camera (mentioned above).
They aren't made for cameras per se - they are made for different sized lenses. I'm not familiar with your camera but if it has threads then you can buy a filter for it. Your manual will tell you what size if it's possible.

Very cool! I am trying to convice the GF that we need to go there on vacation.
Highly recommend it and Quito or Guayanquil are easy flight from Houston on Continental. They're talking about raising the rates (both the park entrance fee and charging the boats more so they in turn have to charge tourists more) because they had over 100,000 visitors in a year's time and that's way higher than anything previously. Nonetheless, its definitely the trip of a lifetime. My wife started crying at one point because she was so overwhelmed by the untouched (now) nature of it.Be careful about what boat you get on. We heard some realy horror stories from some of the cheaper ones.

Very pretty Snoggs. I like the Christmas tree.
Thanks! :fishing: I have to get out at sunset one of these nights and get a better :X of that tree. With the snow surrounding all the lights it is "magical" right now.

Shot a few decorating shots last night with no flash on a tripod. This was my favorite:

Decorate
Nice.. What did you do, turn the Car dealerships spotlight into your window to get the lighting?? ;)
Do you think I overexposed the shot?
No.. Just the fact the lights from the tree are shining nicely and the wall and the kid are lite to the point where you didn't need a tripod with the shutter length led me to believe you were using a spotlight to light up the scene. ;)

The lighting was pretty dim. Many of the shots were too blurry to keep.

Finally starting to go through the the pictures I took on the trip home. I had so many to go through that I had a bit of a picture hangover.

Morning on Frenchman Bay

Atop Inferno Cone in Craters of the Moon NM

Badlands National Park - I have no idea how I got it to look like there are two suns behind the clouds, but I like it.

The Geographic Center of the North part of the Western Hemisphere - A Cornfield in Wisconsin

It's going to take me a couple of weeks just for the Yellowstone pics:

The Yellowstone River

One of many of close encounters with some Buffalo

Nice work. Morning on Frenchman Bay is my favorite.

Went out for a hike just down the road from my house during the last snow fall:

Falling

Fresh Trail(Zoomed out view of Falling)

Hanging on

Snowy Bridge

Lastly... Frozen Creek
Great pics yet again Snogger. Would you mind posting a link to your camera? Also do you take it out in snow with out worrying about water damage?
Thanks! The camera is : Canon Xti.. and these :hot: were taken with the kit lens.

And yes I worry a lot about water/snow damage.

But I never had the camera out longer than a minute or so. I'd keep it in my back pack until I found a shot I wanted, put my jacket hood up which gave me "some" shelter and shot quickly. Then wipe off any snow/water and quickly put the camera back in the Backpack.

I do know that a must have that I will be purchasing this weekend is a hood for each lens. It not only will prevent Sun flare, but will help some to protect the front of the lens from falling snow.

Thanks for the info. I am still using my Canon Powershot S2 IS and I am very much looking forward to taking some pics in the snow of my dogs and some birds. I got the filters you guys talked about as well so I am all fired up for our first snow storm.

I went to the Packers game yesterday. I was sitting in row 60 probably about at the -10 yard line... on the side but in the corner of Lambeau more or less. The south end zone as well. Even though I have a 2x zoom lens I did not bring it in the stadium. I used the default zoom and that was it. Used a Canon Powershot 5.0 mp.

Mason Crosby kickoff.

Mason Crosby extra point.

Favre fake around the 50 yard line.

Favre handoff.

Could have been a great picture if I had clicked just a few feet over.

Favre before the snap.

Favre/Robinson TD... This TD was in the north end zone. Just about kiddy corner from where I was sitting. A little blurry but it was ~180 yards away.

I have had my 28-135 IS lens for over a month, and this weekend was the first chance I have had to take it outside. I was more then happy with the overall results.

There are a few pics with it in my Flickr Winter 2007 stream, but here is one I liked

Nelly the Boxer

Parm

PS...what a great lens. Exposures are spot on, and the sharpness is very nice!

I was browsing through some St. Thomas pix on flickr and came across something that I thought was pretty amazing. Check out these 2 pictures:

Sunset 1

Sunset 2

The first one is mine and the second one is someone else's. Looks like we took them at almost the exact same moment. What are the odds that I'd find a picture so similar to my own?

Cool find
