Digital Camera pic of the day (3 Viewers)

Here are a few from the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. I hope you all like them. I am pretty embarrassed posting these in the same thread as Snogger since his stuff is usually outstanding!

Gargoyle
Thanks  This thread is what got me going. I love seeing other shots and learning from them

BTW.. Very nice shot.. I would have tried with a flash so as to bring out more detail on the Gargoyle.. but I like the angle/perspective.

As for Cross.. I like the perspective.. Might have been better if you under exposed a bit as the Sun lite sky in the background takes away from other parts. Afternoon shots are the worst as you really have to watch the sun.
Thanks for the advice. I was using such a wide-angle (10mm) on the gargoyle I could not get good coverage using the on-camera flash. I tried but dumped them since the light fell off so badly. Here is a redo with a quick photoshop screen.gargolye II

As for the cross, I was going for an artistic, old fashioned photo, but I agree it looks washed out. Here is another go at it.

Cross II

Thanks again for the critiques. It is nice to hear other opinions when trying new things.

It's been a bit since Mother Nature decided to come out and play without rain washing it away so I quickly grabbed my camera and headed out.

I can't decide which one of these two I like better

Broken Dreams

or

Broken

and a few more:

3 in Flight

Split Refelction

Two Setting
I like the depth of field better in broken, but unfortunately that brings the wires into focus.I like the composition and sillouetting of the tree in broken dreams better.

Thanks..I like experimenting with different settings and this was one example:

Broken dreams was taken first with these settings:

Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)

Aperture: f/5.6

Focal Length: 110 mm

ISO Speed: 400

Broken was taken 45 seconds later with the flash and these settings:

Exposure: 0.005 sec (1/200)

Aperture: f/11

Focal Length: 85 mm

ISO Speed: 400

I also liked the silhouetting effect on 'Broken Dreams' a little more, but think the colors in the background help a lot.

The 2nd shot you can see more of the details, but the colors didn't "pop" as much in the background.

As usual, some great shots.I'm disappointed I haven't had any time lately to get out an take any pics. I've pretty much missed all spring. Mrs. CE's going away next weekend so I'm hoping to get out a little on Saturday.

Thanks Crosseyed.. Sometimes you have to just grab your camera and go.. For those sunset  I looked out the window at 3pm, saw that it was partly cloudy and the wind had been blowing most of the day kicking up dust so I figured it was probably the best night I had in awhile to get some sunset shots.

I'm in the "shoot and test" mode right now as in 30 days I'll be heading to Glacier National Park in Montana so I need to get my shooting mind going again to be prepared. :goodposting:

Just got back from spring break and was REALLY happy with how this picture turned out.

Aruba sunset
Fantastic picture. Wonderful colors and subject. Technical reasons I like the picture:

Clouds are great and add depth.

Lots of foreground in the picture makes the subject more intimate.

The subject is framed by the trees. Framing was a great idea.

Eye movement is great. You start at the front and you explore the whole picture.

This is a great shot and you should publish it. It will need to be photoshopped. Look at the histogram. Does it spike up at the right side. If it doesn't then you can recover some information. The dark areas need to be lightened if you can.

Just love the picture

SNOGGER! Why doesn't my camera's pics come out as clear as some of these pics here?
I use "Smart Sharpen" or "Unsharp Mask" in Photoshop. I am sure Gimp has something similar.
 most can be doctored to improve the qualitybut the fact of the matter is that no matter what 'range' of quality of camera you are using, some models/brands just flat out take better looking pictures than others...this has been my experience anyway

Certainly. I have a Kodak 8 MP point-and-shoot. It definitely has its limitations, but I am very happy with it.

Snogger, you really do a nice job on exposures in tough situations.

Here are a few from downtown Greenville, SC

bridge
Great shot there. and thanks for the compliment.

It helps to have a Polarizing filter for the bright skies and of course having digital where I can take multiple shots of the same scene at different settings to decide what I like best.

Thanks for keeping this thread going. I don't post much in here, but I thoroughly enjoy checking out some of the amazing stuff you guys do.

Here is one that I took about two weeks ago. For those familiar with the area, this is the old train bridge on the north side of Fort Bragg, Ca. The wind was blowing in off the ocean at about 30mph, which would explain why there was nobody but me around. It was freezing.

The bottom of the photo is kind of cool with the mist or dust(not sure which one) causing a "soft" look
