Fantastic picture. Wonderful colors and subject. Technical reasons I like the picture:

Clouds are great and add depth.

Lots of foreground in the picture makes the subject more intimate.

The subject is framed by the trees. Framing was a great idea.

Eye movement is great. You start at the front and you explore the whole picture.

This is a great shot and you should publish it. It will need to be photoshopped. Look at the histogram. Does it spike up at the right side. If it doesn't then you can recover some information. The dark areas need to be lightened if you can.

Apparently I haven't checked this thread in quite awhile. Thanks for the feedback golddigger! I really appreciate it!I am a totally amateur photgrapher. How does one go about doing what you recommended above? I have access to Photoshop Elements, but not the full blown Photoshop CS. I'm also obviously intrigued regarding the publishing as well, especially if it means making a few $$$ on the side.

That would be blowing sand. It isn't as fun as it looks. I was about 2' off the ground when I took the photo, getting sandblasted in the face. Took me an hour just to clean all the crap out of my camera and bag.ETA - here is another photo from a little different angle. You can see that this right on the ocean. I'm not sure which photo is technically better, but I like them both. Then again, I'm far from a professional (or even a good amateur).

Is the fireworks shot from 1 exposure or 2? I saw a great idea about taking the background scene and exposing it correctly and then adding the fireworks in later.One more critical step. If the skies do not match change the blend mode to screen (or maybe lighten).

ISO Speed: 400

I pride myself on being a "what you see is what you get" type of photographer in the sense that I don't "blend" two separate shots together.

Nothing wrong with those that do that, but I like to present my photos "as seen" with slight adjustments of colors, contrast and sharpness.

Nice work Snogger!I had a lightning storm by our house this week and it was strange in that you could see the storm, but we had no rain over our house. Anyway, this was my first try at this kind of capture. I used tripod, exposure of 6 sec., infinity focus via manual and ISO 400. I didn't know how to manually do the aperture, so I think that was a mistake. Anyway, here's the "best" shot.

Here's another shot this week with better results.

Nice capture on the Lightning but I think you are correct in that I would have gone with a different aperture. When using the XTI in Manual Mode, You need to hold the AV +/- button down while moving the dial to adjust the aperture.

 
I don't really know what I'm doing with the lame camera that I have, but I like this pic of my kids taken the night before Memorial Day.

Was in NYC over the weekend and walked the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan on Saturday morning. Pretty much a photographer's dream, you've got bridges, plenty of city architecture and people (Eye Candy everywhere) to shoot, I will definately be doing this again sometime and soon.

Took a lot of pics but I only have two up so far. Very different looks for both pics.

The first one is of the Brooklyn Bridge

The second shot I played with the color a bit more and it shows. I did an apply image in LAB mode to bump the colors up so this shot of the Manhattan Bridge looks more like a painting. I like how it came out but it may be overdone a bit. I have gotten one comment that it's too bright.

Im not much of a photographer but the other day we got one of thoes crazy storms where it was raining like mad and the sun was bightly shining. The view from my deck looked so cool I took a picture. Felt like I was in a rainforest.

I was south of Myrtle Beach last week and I saw the hardest rain I have ever seen. I guess it was only an outer band of the tropical storm, but the winds and rain were crazy.
