Directv Sunday Ticket 2010 Edition (1 Viewer)

Last year a lot of us got great deals/discounts by calling up and complaining about the price increase and threatening to cancel. I know I personally got $20/mo discount for 6 months, and they threw in free Superfan. Some people even got them to throw in some free showtime/starz on top of this.

I think as of right now it's still too early to call and get these discounts. But starting next month I think we all will see the first monthly charge on our bill. I just spoke to someone over at Directv and got some interesting info.

He said this year "Superfan" will not be a separate charge - it will be a part of the base package. However I am seeing on the site that the price is raised once again to $314.93 and you don't seemingly have the option to get just the base standard definition package (of course who wants that really!?). I am not 100% sure these numbers are accurate and if there is an early bird rate for those of us renewing, but it's what the site says right now.

I know I'll definitely be calling in once again to cancel because the price is just getting outrageous. I wonder if they will try to offer the $120/off discount and nothing else. This really wouldn't be as good a deal as last year if it's all they can offer.

I've had ST for 10+ years, getting discounts by complaining most of those years. But ST is really the only reason I'm still with DirecTV. Now that Red Zone Channel is available on FIOS/cable, I might finally dump the dish.

Seems like all the NFL games will be HD this year, so they can't get away with it anymore. To offset the loss, increase the cost of ST...

Not renewing. I don't think its worth it with so many primetime games available (Thurs night, Sun night).

Im dropping as well, going to be moving this summer and will target a FiOS available property so that I can get RedZone. Definitely not worth the cost anymore.

On a related note, I am moving too and that is how this conversation came up with directv. They didn't have any deals on NFLTicket yet, but I did say I was considering a switch from Directv when I move - so they gave me $20/mo discount for 6 months and I did not have to renew contract. 3 months of showtime/stars thrown in too and if you want to get a receiver upgrade (HD or DVR) they will give you that for free too (that however would carry the 2 year contract).

Does anyone own FIOS I cancelled the NFL package after having it since it started so I was thinking of switching also and wanted to know how FIOS service was.

I just glanced at the website and it doesn't look to me like SF is part of the base package. I did notice that they're now spreading it out in SEVEN payments. That tells you how expensive it is now. It used to be four payments forever, then they had to go to five a couple years ago.

Yea but it looks like that is still the 2009 info page too. I assume they will change it over in the near future. It makes sense for them to switch to all HD all the time with how mainstream HD has became. And they are charging ya for it anyway so no skin off their back.

Ah ok. What was the regular price last year, like $289?

I just called an canceled..........I'm not even looking for a "deal" this year. The package is $314.93 (or 7 payments of $44.99 ea). I'm not going to lie, I'm gonna miss it......but the NFLN Redzone and my laptop will suffice (+ the regular network games). The cost has just gotten out of control.

I dropped the ticket last year because we have too many trees in our yard to get a good signal.....would have to cut down 4 of them and 3 neighbors......not gonna happen.

I have local cable now (no distractions from weather anymore and faster internet) I LOVED the Redzone channel and its priced right FREE or at least included in the cable pkg I chose.

This is the thing I could not live without............Direct is replaceable.

Does anyone own FIOS I cancelled the NFL package after having it since it started so I was thinking of switching also and wanted to know how FIOS service was.
FIOS service is awesome. Its reliable, extremely fast and has awesome HD. I think I've only had one very brief outage in the 2+ years I've had it, and my bill actually dropped when I switched from cable. I'm guessing some of these things vary by area, though. When I signed up I also got ~ 250 gift certificate from Best Buy. I've seen them do other things since then like free TVs, etc - not sure if there are any deals still like that, tho.

Does DirectTV offer the NFLN RedZone channel in any other package? I really don't want the Ticket, but would love teh RedZone channel.

I wish they'd come up with a weekly version. I finally dropped it last year because 8 weeks out of 17 I'm attending a game and so don't get any use out of Sunday ticket. It just doesn't make sense to pay that much for what amounts to a half season of viewing.

I've had the Ticket for 3 years now and never paid for SuperFan (I whined and griped and tossed out threats to leave). My famous line each year is "what kind of idiot promotes HD satelite and then doesn't offer it on their HD-hyped package"? That pretty much seals the deal each time...feel free to use it :lmao: .

I'm with you guys though. The price for this service is rediculous. I hadn't heard of FiOs but I think I will check into it.

But this year that won't work, if what the guy told me is true (that there is no superfan addon and it's part of the base sunday ticket price/package).

Same here last year i swore no more laptop and locals are fine with me!

I just called and canceled the renewal for ST this season. She offered me $135 in discounts off my bill over the next 6 months (I took it). She then offered me a $30 discount off ST if I changed my mind. I asked if SF was included with her offer of $314.93 minus $30 and she said no bcuz they have not set the SF rates yet and the $314.93 was actually the early bird special. I said the early bird is more than the actual cost of $289 from last year, she said everything has gone up. I said earmark my acct the $30 discount and I will call back when I see the ST and SF rates have been set. So as of now I have $135 in discounts for 6 months and another $30 for future use in the kitty I hope.
