Disc golf bigger than ball golf in five or ten years? (1 Viewer)

The smell of marijuana at a disc golf course on a college campus? What is this world coming to?
Not criticizing it, but those people that are trying to claim that this isn't one of the big attractions of this activity are deluding themselves.   Weed and disc golf is like golf and beverage carts.   If you couldn't drink while golfing, a lot less people would play.

Give KF a break, he works at a pot dispensary and just moved out of the commune.

His circle of clarity hasn't been broken yet.  Let him imagine.
Close.   I have a phd in engineering and work for a large consulting firm.  You better hope i'm not that high or that skyscraper you are sitting in while shoveling down your french fries might fall down :)

Ok for real, haven't enough of these things been built that there's basically a template by now?  Insert tab A into column B, that kind of thing?

I've always thought frolf would be a pretty cool game to take up. Does anyone have some sites they'd recommend for beginners? I am pretty fortunate to live close to a couple of frolf courses and think it would be a good way to get outdoors more.

frolf ...we made up better games when we were kids and weren't even high.

I don't understand why anyone plays disc golf.  It's like at some point a bunch of stoners got together and said 'let's create a game that we can get high and wander around throwing frisbees so only guys like ourselves will play it'
Um, I don't think there's an "It's like" about it - pretty sure that's exactly how this #### went down.

wind loading, soil conditions, soil loading, etc...all change given the site.  But yes, there are pretty large factors of safety built into everything nowadays

Not taking a position, as I don't play either one, but my favorite line from the original link:

Ball golf is too expensive to play (because it is very expensive to maintain the courses), it takes too much time to play (millennials and beyond don’t have five hours to spend playing one round of golf),
Millennials don't have the attention span to spend five hours doing anything.  They've got plenty of time.

Pretty much any activity on a college campus comes with a marijuana smell attached nowadays. You'd probably get a whiff if you went to a Young Republican's meeting or something like that.

It's really not one of the big attractions, but whatever. I live in a relatively conservative area, so I'm sure it's different elsewhere, but I very rarely see people smoking at the course.

I’ve never seen a grown up play disc golf.*

*ive actually also never seen a kid play disc golf, but I would let that slide if I did.

No, it's not. 3/4 of the world doesn't refer to frolf as "golf," thereby necessitating a distinction for "ball golf" in the one country that plays it.
I can't wait for the day that the other forms of golf are so popular that sportscasters are forced to use the term "ball golf" when referring to the pga.

You do realize that I don’t say “ball golf” 99% of the time I’m talking about golf, right?
still seems low.

I have typed it for the first time in my life in this thread and have never thought it ...much less actually said it, in my entire life.

ETA:  It sounds like something that a person who is completely unfamiliar with sports would say.  I referenced this phrase earlier - my wife got plenty of looks and laughs when I took her to Firestone CC to see the wgc tour event there.  We are about 5 deep along the first fairway and my wife says as she is trying to peer over the heads of the crowd, "Is that the golf field over there??"  About 20 guys turned around and looked with big grins on their faces.  I still give her #### about it.  :D
