Let me start out by admitting that I have been somewhat of a jerk in calling out NE fans, and some of my postings have been removed because of it. I have a lot of fun with the give and take with guys like eom and Twitch, and enjoy teasing them a little by suggesting that New Englanf might lose every week. In actuality, i don't really believe they will lose at ALL, much as I wish they would. Up to this point, (and I don't see it changing) this is the greatest team in the history of the NFL, and that is by far. So for any of you who have taken some of my previous comments to the contrary more seriously than they were meant to be, I apologize.

that being said, I truly believe it is a shame that this team is so classless. Going for it on 4th down and airing the ball out when you're ahead 38-0 in the 4th quarter is not something to be admired. I'm glad that my children are not interested in football, so I don't have to explain that kind of behavior, and I'm fearful and ashamed that young people are watching this display and thinking that it's something to be admired.

And I don't want to hear the "what what about this team, they did it, too?" excuse. If another team does wrong, they deserve to be criticized as well. This post, though, is about what the Patriots are doing wrong. They are sending a terrible message about sportsmanship and how you should behave, and I think it's important for thinking fans to speak out about this.

I don't expect Patriot fans not to root for their team. But if you are cheering as they run up the score and leave Brady in to air it out once the game is long over, I think you need to check yourself.

:mellow:Patriots should kneel the ball for the leaders of tomorrow!Everyone around here needs to lighten the F up. It's a game. If you hate the Patriots, hate the Patriots. Turning it into something that affects CHILDREN is ridiculous beyond words.
 
I hate the Pats as much as anyone, but frankly, trying to get their guy the record does not seem that bad to me. Running up the score is uncool, but trying to get Brady the TD record seems alright to me.

No, this is a serious thread and I am not going to rip on Boston or the fans. They are not the ones running up the score. Let's not just rip Boston; this is a criticism of the New England Patriots
 
Dude, why do you start new threads every week complaining about the Patriots? Especially when several of them get deleted by mods. Double-especially when there are other threads on the same topic on the top of the front page.

And you think Belichick has an ego problem...

And FYI, on the fourth-down play you referred to, the Pats had already pulled their starting QB. There was something like 8 minutes left in the game. IMO kicking a FG in that situation is far more obnoxious, and taking a knee with 8 minutes left makes no sense.

 
Sorry boys, the guys on the field are professionals its that simple. This isn't high school football, this is the pros. Each team is paid to do their best. I sure hope in your professional life you do your best all the time, that is what you get paid for.

 
This is not poor sportsmanship. Poor sportsmanship was exhibited by the league, Eric Mangini, and any of us who questioned the Patriots for stealing signals.

Oh, and Shannon Sharpe, for the "Send in the National Guard" comment.

People really have a strange definition of what's running up the score and what's classless. The way the OP talks about it you'd think the Patriots are obligated to punt the ball on first down once they have a lead. They don't lose the right to play 60 minutes of live football every week because they're really good. If they want to give Matt Cassel some game experience throwing the ball, they should.

The patriots did steal signals with the use of a video camera. Since when is pointing out that someone is breaking the rules bad sportsmanship?

:goodposting: It's absolutely ridiculous to whine about the Pats running up the score. These guys are pros. They get paid to play hard and win. If you don't want them to run up the score, stop them.I suspect most of the people who whine about pros running up the score have never played competitive sports. These guys don't want charity. They'd rather get their butt kicked than to have people taking a knee in the third quarter.

That is a strong statement to make as Boston sports teams have taken it on the chin for many many many years. The Patriots were the laughing stock of the league not that long ago. The Red Sox went almost a century without winning a World Series and now things are falling their way. People hated the Celtics when they were winning, up until this off season nobody cared about them nor did anyone consider them any sort of threat. This type of feeling comes from the New England teams winning. I have waited a long time for championships from both of the teams and can deal with folks not liking them because of it. You can hate the team, the players and the coaches and some of the fans but to make a statement like that is ridiculous and does nothing but show me just how jealous and ignorant you are. I hated the Cowboys during the heyday, I hated the Yankees during their run (actually still hate them), but I did not make uninformed generalizations about the city or the fans.

Holy ####...This is the NFL, not the peewee league, and these are adults not children. They are paid millions to perform at a high level and entertain the fans to make money. People are actually whining for them to "take it easy" on teams? This is utterly ridiculous.

Obviously Belechick has other motives besides entertaining fans and making money, but that is irrelevant.

Actually, I would suspect the opposite.Anyone who has played competitive sports, from friendly pickup games to world class competition, would have an innate sense of sportsmanship that would dictate that running up the score on an opponent when the game was well out of reach is simply needless and can harbor disrespect from your opponent.

Sorry, but being paid as a pro has nothing to do with it. Being a true athlete does, with all the sense of sportsmanship, honor, and fair play that comes with it, does.
