Disney Vacation (2 Viewers)

Anyone with any insight on the bennies that go along with staying in 'Official" resort properties? We have Shades of green reseravations for the end of the month. But I was wondering if we switched to one of the disney hotels, if there were advantages that'd offset the price difference.

Traveling with the wife (the main Disney fan) and 12 YO daughter (hopefully no Dwarf F-Bombs) and 7 YO son.

thx
Haven't stayed at Shades Of Green. It's rep is that it's a very nice hotel, but doesn't have Disney stuff splashed all over the lobby and rooms. You will be really close to MK and have dedicated bus service to all the parks that won't be shared with other resorts.

Not sure if/what bennies the themed Disney resorts have the SoG doesn't, but that sounds like a fun hung for me to research during some down time today. I'll see what I can figure out.

And thank you for your service.

Just bought tickets for Mickey's Halloween party. Talk about $$$. Sounds like fun and adults get to dress in costumes as well. Wondering what adults will wear to a family friendly park.
You will love it. It's a lot of fun.

You won't see any naughty nurses.
Yeah, my wife and I are struggling with costumes. We can't do our Brittney Spears-K Fed schtick that was awesome in 2006.

I don't know if they have always had breakfast at Be Our Guest, but a friend sent me a text the other night and said it was opening up. We looked and they had all kinds of times available for late October early Nov.
My wife and I are going to do dog costumes for MNSSHP, either Pongo & Perdita from 101 Dalmatians or Lady & The Tramp. The Mrs, a redhead, has an Ariel costume, but she says that is retired. :kicksrock: We also considered Mr Incredible & Elastigirl, Simba & Nala, and Woody & Jessie.

My daughter is plotting a heel turn this Halloween: her costume history includes powerful female heroes like Hermoine Granger, Annabeth Chase, and Merida, but I think she's leaning Malificent this time around.

BOG Breakfast is relatively new, IIRC it kicked off right before the summer season. They only recently decided to extend it beyond summer, so those fall dates just opened up.

If you go, pre-order your meal if you can. You will pass a LOT of people in queue with your food already ordered and get seated faster.
our kids are 3 and 5....we kind of have to make up their minds for them. The trip is a surprise for them, they have no idea.

Right now we're leaning towards a Lego Movie theme. I'll be Pres Business, wife will be Lucy, 5 yo Emmet and 3 yo daughter uni kitty.

This thread is way too long to try to figure out everyones favorite restaurants. I know from previous reading the Ohana dinner is the greatest thing on earth but having already been to that before and will again I am looking for some others to try.

We all decided we are going as Ghostbusters. With the new movie coming out next year and it being girls, the wife and daughter can go as the new and son and I are going circa 1984

Epcot World Showcase

Le Cellier: steakhouse in Canada

Via Napoli: pizza and other Italian dishes

Teppan Edo: Japanese grill-at-the-table meats, noodles, veggies

Resorts

Whispering Canyon (Wilderness Lodge): ask for ketchup whether you need it or not

Sana'a (Animal Kingdom Lodge): African-Indian fusion, get the Na'an with a side of Na'an, also dig the Peri Peri

Flying Fish (BoardWalk): fish and seafood

Sana'a (Animal Kingdom Lodge): African-Indian fusion, get the Na'an with a side of Na'an, also dig the Peri Peri
I checked the menu and not sure how they can call this African-Indian fusion without pilau or mishkaki on the menu.

I'm sure it's good but it looks Indian, not African, to me.

I had a longer post breaking down why this statement is wrong, but instead I'll just say there are African cooking techniques and flavors to be found throughout the menu, and leave it at that.

The D23 Expo is this weekend. It's a big Disney PR event showing off the present and future of Disney properties. A good site for tracking all the D23 news is http://www.insidethemagic.net

Most of the announcements have been about future Disney movies. The parks stuff has been centered the new Shanghai Disneyland. Shanghai Tomorrowland looks great. The Astro Orbiter will be like a jetpack ride. Also a new thrill ride themed around the Tron Lightcycles.

Stateside, they have a sneak peek of the new Avatar section of AK.

So far, the big reveal for MK has been the new Skipper Canteen restaurant is under construction in Adventureland, and will open later this year.

A few Disney movie notes that caught my attention:

Zootopia hits theaters March 2016. Teasers I've seen look like a lot of fun. D23 presentation showed a clip of the Zootopia DMV, where all the employees are sloths.

Toy Story 4 is happening. Release date June 16, 2017. Main plot will be love story between Woody and Bo Peep.

Disney Animation is making "Moana", title character a teenage badass chick in ancient South Pacific. Directors are the guys who did "The Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin".

Finding Dory voice cast announced: Ellen Degeneres back as Dory, Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy as her parents, Ed O'Neill as an octopus, Ty Burrell as a whale, and Kaitlin Olson as a shark.

Next project from the Frozen and Tangled team is "Gigantic", a take on "Jack And The Beanstalk".

Inside Out team has finished a short titled "Riley's First Date?", will be attached to video release of Inside Out.

Pixar is developing "Coco", a story about the Mexican Day Of The Dead.

I didn't see any mention of where the parks will go or if they will be new ones.
There's another Parks and Resorts presentation tonight that might have more details. We know Star Wars Land in Orlando will be in Hollywood Studios on the Star Tours side. The Star Wars Land announcement said it was coming to Disneyland. Whether that means the Original Disneyland park or DCA remains to be seen. In Anaheim, Star Wars Land would actually be a better fit in Disneyland. Star Tours is in Tomorrowland, and there's enough dead/low interest space to drop Star Wars Land in there.

Was coming here to post this. The Millennium Falcon ride has me all-in.Star Wars Land is planned to be 14 acres. For a sense of space... Cars Land at DCA is 12 acres. 14 acres at DHS would take out everything below Star Tours: MuppetVision, Mama Melrose, Pizza Planet, the car stunt show.
So this is it for Osbourne?

Excellent question. Streets Of America is a likely victim of Star Wars Land construction and that part of the park is useless when the Osborne Lights aren't running. But wow, those lights are amazing.

Animal Kingdom adding nighttime features in addition to Pandora.

Rivers Of Light show opens next spring. If you've seen World Of Color at DCA, it's going to be kind of like that.

Kiliamanjaro Safari adding nighttime hours next spring. African wild dogs and hyenas added to the safari as well.

Looks like some of the The Star Wars Land stuff will roll out in stages rather than one big reveal.

2016 will have "Season Of The Force". Seems like a lot of the Star Wars Weekends content, but also happening in Anaheim. Space Mountain in Disneyland will get a "Hyperspace Mountain" Star Wars overlay. Instead of generic stars/moons/planets projected on the walls and ceiling, it will show a space battle including X-Wing fighters.

So that pretty much clinches that Star Wars Land will be in/near Tomorrowland. They can take out a theater and retire the Innoventions building to make a lot of room by Star Tours Tomorrowland.

Soarin' Around The World is official.

New footage filmed for Soarin'. Same premise, but footage filmed around the world instead of just California. Show hasn't been fully revealed, but new version will include the Great Wall Of China.

Coming to Epcot and DCA next year.

This has been a big day.

Immediate reports didn't have a ton of timetables for the parks construction. Star Wars Land and Tot Story Land are similar in scope to Cars Land, and that was about five years from conception to completion. They are probably a year or longer from conception on the new lands, but building the stuff still takes a lot of time. So I'm curious if DHS will even be visitable in 2016.

AK is torn up real bad right now, but that Rivers Of Light show will be one of the most popular attractions in WDW property when it opens. Also curious what the safari will be like at night.

Forgot to mention it my AK post, but they are also working on projection technology for the Tree Of Life to show video content on it at night, similar to what they do with the Cinderella Castle at MK. This is gonna be a great park in about a year.

Looking forward to Soarin' 2: Electric Boogaloo. Curious if they keep running the California show or if they retire it. The D23 presentation also covered the new Frozen ride in Norway, but we've discussed that here. Only new news is they are going to expand Norway a little to accommodate more Arendelle content.

Kenny The Pirate goes over the Toy Story Land concept art in fine detail

The Little Green Men ride appears to be a rebranding of Mater's Junkyard Jamboree at DCA. If so, this is excellent news. That ride is great. Also, looks like whatever the ride is, they are building two of them with one queue feeding both, like the dueling Dumbo rides at Fantasyland. Giant statue of Buzz Lightyear overlooking the ride, too.

Toy Story Mania might be getting a new entrance, so park guests can enter the TSM queue from Toy Story Land.

Pizza Planet appears to be in the concept art. So Pizza Planet won't be retired when it gets closed for Star Wars Land construction; it will move to the other side of the park with all the other Toy Story stuff.

The Slinky Dog coaster is advertised as family-friendly, so expect it to have a height minimum in the neighborhood of 7DMT's 38". Appears to be a much longer ride than 7DMT.

Main entrance appears to feature a giant Woody riding Bullseye to greet guests. Building resembling the Al's Toy Barn from TS2 is nearby, as is a string of Western-style storefronts, like a cartooned-up version of the storefronts in Frontierland. Taking a wild guess and speculating Al's Toy Barn will be merchandise. The Western buildings could work as Midway-style games and booths, kind of like the games alley at Paradise Pier in DCA.

Shooting for March/April 2016 for our next trip down. Are we going to be there in the midst of a lot of closures and renovations during this time? Seems like a ton of construction would be happening from the new development at HS.

Yea I would probably avoid DHS unless you really have a ride you want to get on.

Interesting they didn't announce a name change yesterday Bruce.

1st trip to Disney Land Friday - been to Disney world many times and love it...staying at the Grand California Hotel on grounds. Only staying 3 days so focusing on all the stuff that isnt in Orlando first but should be time for most Im told....any must see/dos or ideas send em over. Thx!!!

Kenny The Pirate goes Easter Egg hunting in the Star Wars Land concept art

The artwork and presentation shows Star Wars Land is intended to be immersive. If you've been to the Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley at Universal, that's the vibe they are going for.

The Star Wars Launch Bay appears to be going in the old Magic of Disney Animation building. Goal is to have it open by Christmas.

Artwork showed a Galactic Grill QSR and a Chewbacca greeting area.

There is most definitely going to be a Mos Eisley Cantina!!!! Hard to tell exactly where it will go, but artwork showed the Cantina bar and a stage.

Despite being 80 minutes away and being married to a huge Harry Potter fan I still haven't been to the hogwart thing.

That's how obsessed she is with Disney.

You're going to love the Grand Californian. Great hotel, super convenient. The grounds run alongside DCA, and is walking distance from Disneyland.

DCA has a separate entrance for the Grand Californian. This is convenient and faster that the main gate EXCEPT right when the park opens. You will get funneled back into the main crowd at the main gate for rope drop. So use the main gate if you're looking to hit DCA at opening.

DCA Cars Land, especially Radiator Springs Racers, is a must if you're looking to check off Anaheim-only attractions. Definitely stick around at closing at DCA at least once for the World Of Color show, too.

The Aladdin show at DCA is really good. It's on par with the Beauty and the Beast song runthrough at DHS. The Genie is allowed to go off-book in a few spots, so expect an improvised/topical joke or two.

Somewhere in this thread in the last couple months I did a breakdown of attractions on both coasts, and which ones were better in Anaheim. Pirates and It's A Small World stand out on the Anaheim side for sure.

3 days should cover it. The front gates for both parks face each other, so parkhopping is easy and fast. You're at the hotel closest to the parks. Even Downtown Disney Anaheim is walkable from your hotel.

I'm thinking that the news/rumor of management rejecting a lot of the proposed concepts for the SW land led them to have little more then these vague concepts for D23.

overall, I'm very excited though

My kid is at the age where he wants to eat h the same movie over & over, and right now he has been into Toy Story. He will love the new Toy Story land.

Any indication of the timeline for the new additions in Orlando?
Completion of Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land could take 4-5 years. For you long-term thinkers... 2021 is this 50th Anniversary of WDW. They will want the park expansions to not just be open, but running smoothly by then.

Toy Story Mania will stay open during the expansion. TSM itself is getting an expansion that will open as it's completed. Rest of TSL will probably open at the same time like Cars Land at DCA.

Star Wars Launch Bay is targeted to open by the Christmas season 2015. Star Tours will stay open during expansion and will add Episode VII-themed stories to the ride's rotations.

Pandora, the Avatar-themed section of AK, is targeted for summer 2017.

Rest of park news from D23 is expected to roll out over the next 12 months.

minor announcement that i found out about for anyone who is a Disney Visa cardholder.

As a cardholder, you already got an exclusive meet and greet and free photo perk at Epcot with any of the Fab 5 (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and/or Pluto)

They have now added a second one now with Star Wars characters. Not sure where it will be, but I believe it will also be in Epcot.

Plus, they are offering additional cardholder discounts on SW merch.

Heading to Disney fl on Friday for 10 days with kids/ in-laws. I've Never been neither have kids. Wife and I have anniversary during our time there and are looking to get away for a night, something beachy and I know we have a bit of a drive to reach the ocean. Any suggestions?, we have a rental car.

The rumor is that the Anaheim Star Wars land is going to be in what is now Toontown as well as some undeveloped space in that area? Why wouldn't they just update Tomorrowland?

http://www.slashfilm.com/disneyland-star-wars-land/
Because it's a much better idea. With this plan, they can construct the new space in relative peace and privacy, with minimal disruption of the existing park. And they can add attractions to some dead space where guests have to do a lot of walking to get from attraction to attraction.

They can do this and also expand the Star Wars presence in Tommarowland. The Innoventions building is perfect for the Star Wars Launch Bay. The Captain EO theater can run trailers/extended previews for the next Star Wars movie, even integrating features of that theater (like the vibrating seats) to enhance the experience.

Leave in 13 days for the World - can't wait. I've been busting my ### all year to lose weight and this was one of my "rewards". Free dining and Food and Wine await me!

NOICE! The wait times this week have been laughably short. Hope that continues through your trip.

We're 33 days out. I'm looking to redo our flight to have a long enough layover in ATL to hit one of those Chik-Fil-A buffets.

Went to one yesterday! Would that have you flying on Thursday or Friday? The one here is open only Friday/Saturday morning so you should check. From the airport I'm not sure the closest Dwarf House but let me know if you can't find one close - another option may be Truett's Grill which also does a buffet (not sure about days)

Disneyland now has a "breakfast on the jungle cruise" thing. Wife was all stoked until she saw it costs 300 bucks per. Even my Disney obsessed wife couldn't do it.

Does sound ok though. Get the boat to yourself I guess and even get to skipper it.

All of this sounds excellent, we're 20 days from the Poly. Funny AAAABatteries....I did the exact thing. Eating very healthy right now so I can :pig: when we get there.

The new breakfast you'll want to try is Sci-Fi Dine-In's new breakfast menu in November. I had a version of it in May at Star Wars Weekend: grilled beef tenderloin, bacon and cheddar custard, baby spinach, roasted tomato, cheesy horseradish potatoes. There's other plates on the menu, but that one is the star.

Oh yeah, add to the list of "sporting events I'll miss because of these damn annual passes": gonna miss Late Night In The Phog, KU's big event celebrating the first basketball practice of the season. Seems silly, but it's a great show and a big night for the program.
