Monumental bust...yes...but for those who I've heard who went, they had a blast. Its not often (or ever) where you can be in the MK with no one around. People we literally walking on rides multiple times. IDK, If the dates fell when I go, I would have considered it, even at the full price. Steep cost, Yes, but if you adjust your tickets and don't do a park that day then it would be ok...still more expensive, but it would be a very cool experience. 

As i'e said a few times before, night time in the parks is my personal favorite time to be there. having no one there along with that would have been amazing

They also let you in at 7, so yes it wouldn't be a bad substitute at all for a regular day pass and then go to the pool etc

It is really cool...but I think the overall rub for a lot of people (admittedly, myself included) is the the Disney Vacation is getting nickel and dime to death and in some situations pitting guest vs guest in some disney class system. 

In the past, you booked a room (on or off property), bought your tickets and went and had fun. But now its upcharges for Fireworks parties, Special events, Bipitty Bioppity Boutique, Surge pricing models, VIP parking, meal plans/no meal plans. Then you toss in the advance planning like fast passes and dining reservations long before you even step foot in the door. People are getting fed up. 

This particular event was on the very expensive side, $150/pp. So a lot of people complained or had a bad taste in their mouth about it being priced at an exclusionary price level, and that it may have taken away from regular park hours that a daytime guest may be now missing out on. Well, its not rocket science that if they wanted an event like this where low capacity is a draw, they have to keep the price high to naturally weed out guests who could nor afford it or didn't think it was a value. Otherwise, they drop the price and limit tickets, but those would sell out faster then the GnR reunion concert and people would be complaining that they were shut out and even this wasn't fair. So its a no win—not saying its right or wrong, just saying. 

The other fear is that Disney executives are looking for ways charge for things that were previously free. If they got enough interest in paid-for things, they would chip away at the things that were perk for being a resort guest, or just a regular ticket guest. Just this month, they offered an early morning special ticket, that for $70 you got into the park early and got to ride a few Fantasyland rides before they officially opened the gates. This sound very similar to the Early Morning magic that resort guests got as a perk for being on property.

Likewise, they were offering FastPasses to watch the nightly fireworks from a new area in the hub of Main Street. Last week or so, it disappeared off the fastpass options and a few days later it was announced that the area will be reserved for a $60/pp Wishes Dessert Party viewing area.   

Yes, there is the eternal debate of Disney as a business and needing to create shareholder value, vs the Disney (parks) is a guest driven destination and needs to keep their vacationers happy and wanting to come back. I see both sides of it. 

IMO, I think WDW needs to do a better job of plussing these smaller revenue drivers w/o rubbing it in the face of the everyday guest. I've always figured there will be a day when you would get a few more fast passes if you stayed in a higher category resort. So say Value gets 3, Mod 4 and Deluxe 5 or something like that. What this would do is entice ppl to upgrade categories, but not be overtly in your face to other guests while in the parks. When you are on line for a ride, you have no idea how many FP's anyone around you have left, if any.  Its not waving a flag that "we are better then you" by creating sectioned off areas, or pushing people out the door early so the other guests can come in.

Day 4- T-Rex 

Day 5 - we haven't figured that out yet. Probably going to try Skipper Canteen, maybe Kona. Still holding out hope for ohana.

Thanks to @RnR and @glvsav37 I called the numbers they listed. (Seriously, thank you) The first had a 40 minute hold time and then disconnected me so I called the second. Another 40 minutes but I was told Disney shipped the tags to a vacation agency in TX on April 5th. My wife's friend, who we booked through reluctantly for the third year in a row, has been a disaster and couldn't answer a single question. Not only that, she'll only answer what is specifically asked of her, nothing more. The current excuse is the floods in TX. It appears I'll be getting my luggage from baggage claim and walking it over to magical express.

Finally got around to looking in the DVC.  We're officially members now! 

We got an email offer the other day of 30% for the Grand Floridian.  7 nights in early December, meal plan, park hopper was $5200.  That seemed like a steal.  I can still consider it cause i have already put aside the money for this trip.

I think we're going to use the DVC points to stay at Bay Lake Tower.  7 nights there was 124 points.  That seems like a pretty good rate.  buying our tickets and meal plan puts our trip just under $3000.  Still good enough to want to use our points.

We could have also stayed at the Poly for 149 points.  Comparing a 7 night stay at the Poly it looked to be $3k (meals and tickets) with the points or booking without was about $7800.  Once I fully wrap my mind around how the DVC actually works and saves I'm liking it more and more.

Welcome home!!!  What resort did you get for your Home resort, and did you buy direct or resale?

Edit to add: What we do, being that we go every summer, is that we buy an annual pass for everyone. Then we leapfrog trips. So when it is a 'buy year' we will go in august. Then the following years we go in July before the pass expires. So we are getting 2 trips out of each purchase and it cuts that ticket number in 1/2 per trip.

Whispering Canyon is a real nice restaurant. If you have a good sever, it is very fun....be sure and ask for ketchup!

As for Ohana...don't give up. You may want to join DisBoards and keep an eye on this thread  People post their ADR Cancelations and work with other members to pick them up. You can even post a "looking for' post to see if anyone is dropping theirs. Good luck!

Take note about Skipper canteen...its a shame but they are changing their menu soon. Apparently "Adventure Fare" was too adventurous for most guests.

I knew about the Skipper menu, they just ripped them about it on the Dis podcast. Something about more burgers and chicken nuggets for everyone because no one is adventurous anymore.

@avoiding injuries I'm not 100% sure how it goes when taking ME with bags. i'm not sure if there is a separate courier there to take them. Prob you'll have to take your bags through the bus que and then give them to the bus driver and he will put them under the bus. Once you arrive at the resort, call a bell hop over and they will hold them until you are all checked in.

A few Notes from this past week:

1) BEACH CLUB was awesome - SOO Good that I'm not sure I could be convinced to stay anywhere else - Reason being - Location - We went out to dinner almost every night in Epcot. Allowed us to start very early, knock out a Park, Get back to the Hotel around 2-3 for Pool time / Happy hour(s) then take a nice walk to Epcot - Dinner in another Land.... No Busses, monorails, boats or 45 minutes to carry a kid...

And the pool at Beach Club is great - Also get to see the FIreworks from Hollywood Studio on the Beach and/or see Epcot show and be home in 5 minutes

Last time went we stayed at Wilderness and you had few options for Bars/dinner.... At the same price point, this was 10000000000x Better.

2) 2nd Greatest thing we did was that B-R-Guest early Breakfast on Days the Magic Kingdom was not open early. Few pages back I was stressed and concerned that I only had a Table for 2 at 8:10 and a Table for 1 at 8:40.... NONE OF IT MATTERED - just show up and Eat!!!! Great Food too..I made a reservation for another day at 8:40 and got into the park at 7:50am... Rides start at 8:45 so this sets you up to Rip through a bunch of rides before the crowds and have 3 Fast passes set up for around 11:00 12:00 1:00 then GET OUT....

3) Weather and Crowd were PERFECT....... 

Not being a regular Disney person - those 2 things (Location near Epcot) and early Breakfast Pre-Opening made the week much more enjoyable than previous visits.

We also took our Animal Kingdom 1/2 Day - Started early with no Fast passes - Hit Safari and the Roller Coaster early then used Fast Passes later for Epcot  Test Track 

Took me 3 days to figure out to use the Plastic mugs for Coffee - didn't realize you can't use the cups at the park....

ONLY thing that could have been better would have been if I took a car or had someone deliver me Beer... Beer and Wine were $10+ each and I'm afraid to look at that Bill.

yes, those epcot resorts are fantastic. They do spoil you with the location alone. Anytime at Disney when you can go left while the rest of the crowds are going right, you win. After we grow out of Bay Lake Tower (same reason for the MK) we will be looking at those resorts. did Boardwalk for my honeymoon and that was perfect. 

Good tip on the BOG breakfast. Being it is a QS, I didn't know that party size was irrelevant. i'll be sure and keep that in mind.

Yes it was QS...... Party Size IS relevant - and they hold your Credit Card (is that just a threat?)

What is irrelevant are the Reservation Times being all the same - If you have a party of 5 and wind up with 3 at 8:40 and 2 at 8:10... I'd be at the park at 7:50 ready to chow down and run... Only rough thing is Riding Thunder Mountain 3x after pigging out  

Again My Reservation was at 8:40 for the 2nd day I did this..... We got there at 7:50, right through the gates.

Earful Tower finally taken down at DHS.  IMO it peaked back in 1995 when it donned a set of Horace Grant goggles in support of the Orlando Magic's run to the NBA Finals that summer.  DHS is gonna be a wasteland for a couple years but wow do I agree with their long-term plans for the space.

Meanwhile the East Garden Plaza opened in MK over in front of the the Cinderella Castle.  With the opening was the announcement that the East Garden Plaza is available to book weddings up to 100 guests.  I am very happy this did not exist 15 years ago as my wife and I would have had way too much trouble getting our guest list down to 100.

In the Springfield section of Universal Studios Orlando, there's a Simpsons-themed food court.  You can get a Krustyburger, a Flaming Moe, a whole run of food and drinks inspired by The Simpsons.  The seating areas contain a room laid out like Moe's Tavern, a cafeteria-style room like the commissary at the nuclear power plant, and QSR-style room with tables and booths like a Krustyburger.  One of the food stations is a "Frying Dutchman" where you can get fish & chips and breaded fish sandwiches.  The sign has the neon art of the guy eating the freshly-caught fish, but has the "ALL" in "ALL YOU CAN EAT" scratched out so it reads "YOU CAN EAT".

In the Krustyburger room, there are TVs than run Simpsons clips, mostly scenes from theme parks, fairs, and restaurants.  That whole Frying Dutchman scene made the cut, including when Homer orders "All you can eat!  All you can eat!" and jumps out of his chair like a racehorse hearing the bell at Churchill Downs and grabs a steam tray to take back to his table.  

And since I'm who I am, I have eaten at this food court a few times.  I recommend the Chicken and Waffles sandwich from the Cletus the Slackjawed Yokel station.  Juicy breaded chicken, lettuce, tomato, and a special sauce somewhere between mayo and maple syrup that sounds gross but somehow works, served between two waffles.  Was not a fan of the Krustyburger, largely because of the cheese sauce instead of chesse slices on the burger.  The Big Pink from the Lard Lad Donuts stand is available on the line and at the checkout.  It's enormous and delicious - imagine a frosted glazed doughnut with the diameter of a small pizza.

A few Notes from this past week:

Glad you had such a good time!  We did a split stay on our last visit and stayed at Beach Club for our Epcot and DHS days.  Just loved it.  Walking to the World Showcase entrance of Epcot and bypassing the Epcot main gate was wonderful for Food & Wine Festival when it's all about that back loop.  Parkhoppers are key to maximize Beach Club - like you said, a morning & afternoon at DHS or AK, little down time at the hotel, then walk over to World Showcase for all kinds of dinner and dessert choices makes a magical Disney day.

A few Notes from this past week:

1) BEACH CLUB was awesome - SOO Good that I'm not sure I could be convinced to stay anywhere else - Reason being - Location - We went out to dinner almost every night in Epcot. Allowed us to start very early, knock out a Park, Get back to the Hotel around 2-3 for Pool time / Happy hour(s) then take a nice walk to Epcot - Dinner in another Land.... No Busses, monorails, boats or 45 minutes to carry a kid...

And the pool at Beach Club is great - Also get to see the FIreworks from Hollywood Studio on the Beach and/or see Epcot show and be home in 5 minutes

Last time went we stayed at Wilderness and you had few options for Bars/dinner.... At the same price point, this was 10000000000x Better.

2) 2nd Greatest thing we did was that B-R-Guest early Breakfast on Days the Magic Kingdom was not open early. Few pages back I was stressed and concerned that I only had a Table for 2 at 8:10 and a Table for 1 at 8:40.... NONE OF IT MATTERED - just show up and Eat!!!! Great Food too..I made a reservation for another day at 8:40 and got into the park at 7:50am... Rides start at 8:45 so this sets you up to Rip through a bunch of rides before the crowds and have 3 Fast passes set up for around 11:00 12:00 1:00 then GET OUT....

3) Weather and Crowd were PERFECT....... 

Not being a regular Disney person - those 2 things (Location near Epcot) and early Breakfast Pre-Opening made the week much more enjoyable than previous visits.

We also took our Animal Kingdom 1/2 Day - Started early with no Fast passes - Hit Safari and the Roller Coaster early then used Fast Passes later for Epcot  Test Track 

Took me 3 days to figure out to use the Plastic mugs for Coffee - didn't realize you can't use the cups at the park....

ONLY thing that could have been better would have been if I took a car or had someone deliver me Beer... Beer and Wine were $10+ each and I'm afraid to look at that Bill.

The showrunner at WDW Prep School has an endorsement deal with Garden Grocer, which delivers to resorts.  I'm sure there are others who do this.

this seems like major saving opportunity and time saver especially for breakfast unless Im missing something?  Can you bring fruit and snacks in a backpack into the parks?

Dove Cameron is a MUST SEE. 

My daughter has pretty much outgrown the Disney Channel now.  Oddly, she's a big fan of Girl Meets World, but has tossed all the other old shows aside.  

But I might have insisted of saving all the old photos from meet-and-greets with past Disney Channel stars.  The kid's current musical tastes would mock the person who once saw Bridgit Mendler and Zendaya Coleman in concert back in the day.
