Disney Vacation (2 Viewers)

OK.... So maybe, maybe not I did ok with my Fast passes so far targeting popular rides for afternoon....

So, I imagine I can't sign up for another Fast Pass till I use one.... So, I ride Splash Mountain at 11:30am with FP..... Now what, I run to some other ride or I have it on my phone and get to Fast pass something else.... BUT, I can't fast Pass another park....??????

Jesus.

can't get a new one until all 3 are used (or at least the window for #3 opens).

to get a new one you have to go to the FP kiosks and manually select it—hence you have to be in the park you are going to use it. I do not think you can get additional FPs right from the app.  So no making a FP for Epcot while you are on the monorail over to it.

You can however modify and FP. So say you had a FP for Big Thunder, but you realize that you can hop on it with minimal wait, you can toss that FP back in and pick a new selection.

Works well when the parks are less crowded, no so much when park is busy.

Id love for them to install some sort of GPS/Geolocation into the app so that it recognizes that you are within the bounds of the park and can make FP selections. Likewise, with tight GPS, the app could alert you to an upcoming showtime or low wait time at nearby attractions.

Fudge!!!!  I have an ADR there but not for my AK full day!!!!!  Grrrrrrr!!
Kenny The Pirate did a little more investigating.  There are references to "ROL 1st viewing" "ROL 2nd viewing" and "ROL 3rd viewing" on the Disney app.  So, three shows a night, apparently.

He wasn't able to confirm or deny rumors that ROL will have FP+ available for semi-reserved seating.  Anaheim's comparable attraction, World Of Color at DCA, has FastPass seating sections, but you can't book those FPs in advance without doing a dining/viewing package.

yea, I ended up making a Tusker Breakfast ADR anyway for that morning just to beat the rush. If they make it a package I'll be able to convert it. I'd need to change my late lunch for Rain Forest, but really we only go for there Volcano desert. We shouldn't have too much trouble moving that if it comes to it.

If it goes FP, I'll take that and dump the Tusker.

Just being prepared.

Disney stock has taken a hit recently, mostly because of Shanghai cost overruns and concerns over long term viability of their TV channels.

On the Parks side, a couple of cuts to be announced soon to reduce costs:

Expect the Citizens Of Hollywood to be retired.  These are the street performers in old Hollywood garb, a mix of magicians, improv scene makers, wardrobe and costume people, etc. that usually roam around the park entry and the road to Tower Of Terror and Rock and Rollercoaster.  Nice atmosphere creators, but down low on the list of people's favorite experiences at DHS.  So yes, another DHS attraction shut down.

DisneyQuest is going to have serious hours reductions.  They had planned to shut it down and lease the building for a planned NBA-themed fan experience and restaurant, but the NBA pulled out of the deal at the last minute, even after closing their restaurant at Universal CityWalk to facilitate the move.

Anyway, one plan floated around to is only run Quest in the late afternoon and early evening, cutting thousands of hours in labor costs. So instead of a model of being open 10ish-10ish, they are looking into pushing back the open to 3:00 or 4:00 in the afternoon and closing at 9:00.

This would have fit in that earlier post but I didn't want to bury the lead.  DisneyParks is due to announce a park ticket increase.  They usually announce one about now in advance of summer season.  Universal already made their move (and oh man they JACKED their prices WAY up after a monster 2015) so they know what their local competition is doing.

also, they are moving toward 'Tiered' pricing where busier times will be more expensive then slower times.

Reports say that Disneyland has installed TV Screens where their price boards were so that they can update the prices based on the day. WDW should follow suit shortly. Its crazy with logistics b/c if you happen to travel there while your trip falls over a price change, you would need to pay the upgraded price. Or be purchasing taxes in advance based on parks you plan on voting. I've even heard that MK will be more expensive then the other 3.

the Whole Shanghai project impact is crazy b/c as a guest, very very few % of US guests will ever visit there.

Tiered pricing makes sense.  Their hotel rooms and DVC suites carry different costs throughout the year, why wouldn't park tickets?  This is probably why they retired those multi-day tickets that could be cashed in months apart.

Definitely expect more separation between MK and the satellite park prices.

Headed to WDW in mid April, staying at Port Orleans.  Haven't been in a few years.  Anything I need to know?  How does this bracelet thing work?

So would you no longer be able to include park tickets in your package. I dont mind tiered pricing, but I dont like thinking Im paying one thing and then have the card charged different bc of tiering

What happens to park hoppers?

@Capella thats the problem I don't think it will shrink them enough....the holiday crowd is coming regardless...school is still logging to be closed the same time, people will still come for the holiday decorations, summer travel will still be summer travel....i just think they are trying to maximize the profit from the known crowds. I doubt the average casual guest is going to compare prices vs time.

@Bruce Dickinson I don't know, I though the tired room prices would be the measuring stick on when people traveled. Tiered park tickets will be a logistical nightmare. Sorry kids, we can't go to the MK today b/c its Tuesday and thats when it is the most expensive. Park hoppers are a huge draw for most guests. IDK how the heck they are gong to manage that now. Let alone when your trip straddles "price zones?"

Same @AcerFC...ticket packages are gong to be a nightmare IMO

We are in full planning mode for Oct 2016 trip.  6 days at Disney(MKx2,EPx2,DHS,AK) and 1 day at Universal park to park.  Staying at POR.  Debating doing MNSSHP but as of now we're skipping it.  When we went spring 2012 BTMR was closed for refurb and looks like we are getting the shaft again.

Big thunder should be open?? It's slated to open back up in July 2016.  If anything it will be better.
They recently pushed back the refurb.  Rumor is Aug 8-Nov 19 but nothing official other than those who couldn't make FP+ reservations for April are now able to.

#### balls.  That hits me too now.  I'll be there August 3-14 but wasn't planning on hitting MK until the 6th.  Better get my BTM ride on before it goes down.

Thanks. I'd keep an eye on that though bc in the little research I just did, some places are saying the referb might be canceled all together bc of massive budget cuts.

The refurb was to add some of the digital elements from the DL version.  However the ride itself is still very opporational  and just had a big referb a few years ago. So cutting this one makes some sense.  We'll see.

The new structure will not cover multi-day tickets, although prices for those will rise. Four-day tickets will cost $325, up from $305. Ten-day ones will cost $400, up from $365.

Final tally:

salad: DNP

bread: DNP

potstickers: 4.5

chicken wings: 2

steak: 1 bite

chicken thighs: 3 (these are good)

shrimp: 25

bread pudding: yes

New career-low for shrimp. Capella blames it on an earlier tip (5 pm vs usual 8) and also the carrot cake whoopie pie he devoured earlier in the day at Hollywood Studios. "I gotta be better next time, and I will" he said after the dinner.

I always eat a lot more potstickers and wings and about a dozen shrimp.  I just love the potstickers.
Yep.  I switched up my Ohana game the last couple visits to give more run to the wings and potstickers.  I love the potstickers dipped in that divine peanut sauce.

All this ohana talk had me jealous, so I decided to check again for the day we will be at MK. 3:30 popped up on the app. I booked it quick but im not sure if that is dinner or breakfast bc it says character dining. I need to check the times that dinner starts. Might be excited for no reason.

Just listened to the WDC annual shareholder meeting (at least the public part) and while there was nothing ground breaking mentioned, 2 things might be of interest to us general guests.

• Announced 2 new cruise ships. Obv a few years away from actually launching, but its crazy to see how big the fleet has gotten.

• Magic Bands: A question was asked about expanding the MB capabilities to encompass some of the original intentions, like more guest interaction with attractions and such. And Iger said that at this time, they are not going any further with the program b/c they are finding that guests can do more with their mobile phones and devices. Hmmmm...sounds like MB's are now just a really expensive new hotel door locking program. I'm kidding...but was really hoping they would expand them to include more guest geolocation and recognition features.

Also, on the same lines, no plans right now to include them on the cruise ships b/c of infrastructure needs...however, see item 1 and lets see if that changes once the new ships are online

edit to add....Iger said they are 'breaking ground' on the New Star Wars stuff in both DL and WDW next month. Granted, "breaking ground" is largely
ceremonial, but he clearly said "Next Month" so keep an eye out for any of those events.

LOL, I told my daughter about this last night and she's even more excited.

We're just waiting for the free dining dates to drop, than we'll book that day. My brother and I have laid out our plans for this trip last week, hopefully we'll be able to get the reservations. Looking at T-Rex (non-negotiable, all our kids love it), Ohana, 1900 Park Fare, Tedpan Edo, Tusker House, Ankerhaus and, hopefully, BoG.

Ohana and BoG will obviously be the toughies. My two non-negotiables are Ohana and Tusker House. Never been to TH, and I really want to check it out.

Taking our little guy (21 months) to Disney leaving Wednesday.  Staying at Animal Kingdom because we know he loves animals.  We suspect he will be terrified of people in costume based on his recent Santa/Easter Bunny interactions.  It'll also be his 1st time flying.

Not much else to add to the thread, but if anyone has any tips or things to share for someone traveling with a really little kid, please do!

Take frequent breaks. Go back to the hotel for naps and swimming. Take a stroller. Yeah, they're bulky, but they're great for holding the kid and whatever stuff you accumulate through the day. Bring a case of bottled water with you as you can refill them at water fountains and at quick serve restaurants.

*edit* Oh yeah, I always wear a small backpack. Usually keep pre-charged power bricks for my phone, granola bars or goldfish crackers, water, ear buds..... crap like that.

@Fat Nick Enjoy....go at the little guy's pace.

As with what @Deranged Hermit said, stroller is a must, but you prob knew that. While they are great at carrying ####, you need to fold them up on the buses. So plan out what you are going to take (diapers, food, change of clothes, etc) and make sure you have a soft bag or something that all of it will fit in. Bc there is nothing worse than standing in front of a bus, with a line of people behind you and trying to stuff baby bottles into your pockets while trying to fold up the stroller.

Have lots of food and snacks on hand to keep him happy. Instead of packing them, there are grocery delivery services that can deliver anything you want directly to the resort and they will be there when you check in.  They are great for things like milk, boxes of cheerios (for kids snacks), and bottled water cases. Things that take up a lot of room/weight in checked bags.

If you are eating breakfast at a buffet, be sure to grab some bananas and dry cereal before you go. F it, you paid for it, take it. You never know when a mid-day banana will come in handy.

There are hidden places where the little guy can run around. In the MK b/t big thunder mtn and splash mtn. Also in Epcot, there is a similar inside (air conditioned) playground in the exit to Mission space. These are great places to take him while one of you gets a chance to ride something.

On the subject, take advantage of rider swap. You get a "rider swap pass" at the attraction and one of you gets in line (regular line or FP) The other one goes for ice cream with the kid. When the parent is back, swap the kid, and the other one takes the pass and goes through the FP line to get quick entry into the ride.

On rider swap and FP: I'm sure you have your FP's worked out already, but if you want to modify them, you make a FP for one ride (say big thunder), and wife makes a FP for another ride (say space mtn). Then using the swap pass, you're both get to use the FP lane for those, and it only costs you 1 FP slot.

Don't make a FP for Dumbo b/c here the standby line is actually better. When you get in line, they give you a beeper and you go into the big top tent where the kids can run around and play on things, while you sit and soak up the AC. Then when its your turn, the beeper goes off and you go ride.

Know the locations of the baby care stations. They are indoors and relaxing locations that the baby can sleep in for a bit vs being outside in the noise. Also, they have a bunch of stuff avial for purchase like extra diapers and creams and stuff so you don't need to carry everything with you or panic if you ran out of something.

if I think of more, I'll post. Or if you have questions, just let me know.

Enjoy!!!

oh yea...not sure if you are doing the Memory Maker thing or not, but, if you get a photopass photographer who takes your picture and hands you a card, take a photo of the back of the card with your cell phone. It will have the code numbers you need to access the photos on line later. If you have the picture of the codes on your phone, then you don't have to worry about accidentally losing the card at some point.

also, on cell phones, to save battery life, everyday, I would make screen shot of my Disney App page with all of my FP and dining times. Then make that my lock screen image. So any time I needed to check a time, I just popped open my phone, but not needing to go through the whole opening process and launching an app. Saved a ton of battery life.

Bring lollipops or something he can suck on for the flight to help with his ears.

for anyone in the area april 15-17 there seems to be a Rivers Of Light special preview party hard ticket event with food and drink. I am trying to find out more info, but if you are going to be in town at that time, then I suggest you start calling disney. It will sell out fast.
