Disney Vacation (4 Viewers)

@Deranged Hermit@glvsav37@schlesinj Good advice all.  We're set with a small "deluxe umbrella stroller" that we've had.  It's a bit more robust than the old-school kind, but still folds up very small.  Can even "recline" if he wants to sleep.  

Good tips on indoor play areas, places for him to nap, etc.  We used Amazon Prime to ship some supplies to the hotel already.  Much appreciated for all the advice.  Flight leaves at 6:00 AM tomorrow...I'm excited.

 
@Fat Nick  Ohhhh.....forgot. Does the kid have any fears of the dark? My daughter did and so we bought glow bracelets that she and us could wear. We called them magic bracelets and if she was ever scared, we told her to just look at the bracelet and also to look for ours so she would know we were there. I know it sounds corny, but it was a big help upon a few rides. You never know how they are going to react until your are in the middle of it. I know you leave tomorrow, but you can prob Amazon Prime a package down. 

 
Grrrrrrr....Anti Disney Rant right now!

Out of the blue today they raised the Dining Plan prices a few bucks—roughly $2/day for the QS/TS plan. 

and there is a lot of chatter about a recent survey sent out that is asking about a $15/day "Resort Fee" to—get this—cover the cost of Magic Bands, Fast Pass+ Planning, Magical Express, Resort Entertainment, Kid Club, WiFi and Parking.

Really???? So paying for things that were always considered differentiators to staying at WDW??? However, we only use Magical Express 2x per stay (coming and going) but i'll pay for it every night? What if I don't make FP reservations for a few day (say when I'm over at Universal)? Plus, being its labeled a "Resort Fee" it is not affected by room discounts and would not need to be displayed in advertising room rates.  

Unreal!! This season has been such a money grab, from the admission pricing changes, to the entertainment cuts, and now all of this??  I love me some Dis, but this is frustrating.

There are rumors about not letting in outside food and drink anymore too. Guess we gotta spend $3 for a bottle of Dasani too now. Just nickle and diming everything.

 
Screens installed at the end of Small World that lists the names of people on the boat by reading their magic bands

...and it goes by the name on your My disney Experience account, not the nickname you give that magic band. So not to worry, you  won't see "Minnie's F@çking Goofy" pop up on that  screen

My sister and future brother in law are going to Disney World for their honeymoon in July. They're booked to stay at the Saratoga Springs Resort on Disney property. Have any of you stayed there? Thoughts?

It's Close to Disney Springs, has an okay spa, and the pools are nice.  The steak house (Turf Club I think) is meh.  I like it and would stay there again.  

 
New VIP parking section added to the MK parking lot. $15 extra to park there. 

I've never parked at MK, but I heard it is the Aladdin lot.

 
As we wait for more info on Frozstrom's opening, if you want to get nostalgic over the past life of the Norway pavilion, check out this guys site full of some cool behind the scenes photos from Malstrom.  

side note, I wish I would have worked in attractions, just so i could walk around on the show areas of the ride like this guy. Instead I got to toil away in a kitchen, but hey, the inside of Pecos Bills was still cool....not. 

 
they always dangle it...the interwebs goes bonkers, and then they give in. But with the huge cost cutting measures recently I can see them doing away with it or at least limiting it somewhat. 

I know they experimented with a free Quick serve meal per day special, but not sure if that made any dents

I know a decent amount of people who ONLY go when this deal is on. So if they did pull it, I wonder how it would effect overall attendance.

They have been monkeying around with little price hikes and service fees here and there that would help boot or at least keep revenue somewhat flat if overall attendance dropped.  

 
Hearing a pretty strong rumor that the WDC is considering retheeming the Tower of Terror in Calf as a Guardian of the Galaxy themed attraction and bringing Marvel IP's into that park.

@Bruce Dickinson any chatter on that out west?

 
Pretty excited about about going to Disney late summer/early fall. Gotta start planning. I need to stay in a place on or off Disney that has a full kitchen, dishwasher, fridge and washer/dryer.

Thoughts?

 
If you want those amenities on property, you'll need to look into renting DVC points. Places like David's DVC rental can get you all the points you need. They handle the whole transaction. I don't reccomend places like ebay or anything like that b/c you never know who you are dealing with.

DVC resorts are all Deluxe and anything 1Brdm and up will have all of those in the room.

Resorts:

  • Bay Lake Tower At Disney's Contemporary Resort
  • Beach Club Villas
  • Boardwalk Villas
  • Wilderness Lodge
  • Grand Floridian Hotel
  • Polynesian Villas and Bungalows
  • Old Key West
  • Saratoga Springs
if you need any info on any of these feel free to ask. I'm a DVC member, so I know most of them.

off site...cant help you personally, but there are a lot of great vacation homes and condos to rent.

You just need to weigh the cost/benefit differences when staying off site like renting a car, meal plan (but if you want a kitchen I doubt this is important to you), parking, FP+ booking 30 days out (vs 60 for on site guests), etc.

Thx fir the great info! Never thought about becoming a DVC member. Cost is obviously, as usually the case, an issue.

DVC does have its costs associated and its not for everyone. But the beauty of it is that there is a huge rental market that lets you enjoy all the benefits of being a member w/o the commitment and often 1/2 the price of just booking a room for your stay. I know a few people who only stay with rented points.

But savings are only factored if you were originally planning on staying at a Deluxe or Moderate, but in your case, these would be the only rooms with the amenities you were looking for. You are not getting a full kitchen at one of the value resorts. The Suites at Art of Animation has a small kitchenette, but not the washer/drier.

 
Kenny The Pirate reports that MK will have a "Disney After Hours" program on Thursday nights in April and May.  Guests can pay a premium to stay three extra hours after the park closes to the general public, with select attractions and character meet-and-greets available.

No more details than that at this time.  Even the proposed price is unclear.  $149 is being floated, but unclear if that's just for the afterparty or if that is an all-day MK ticket plus the party.

sounds really expensive for 3 hours, but given the price it costs for some dessert parties and other hard ticket events, I guess it fits. 

Cost: $149 per person plus tax (unknown if it included daytime admission)
Dates:  April 14, 21, 28.  May 5, 8, 12,19
On Sale:  April 6, 2016

On the admission: I doubt it will be including the MK admission b/c what about AP holders and others with ticket packages. I don't see a discount for those

The elephant float shorted out and caught fire during a Lion King show today.  Audience had to evacuated.

No one was hurt, elephant was repaired, show was back on later in the day.

 
Details for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party 2016 are being released.

I counted 12 party nights in September and 18 in October.  They know this gig is good.

Boo To You parade will be back, as will the Hocus Pocus jukebox show in front of the castle.  No word yet if the undead storyteller will be back at Haunted Mansion, but I hope so - she's awesome.

Ticket prices hasn't been announced yet.  I'd expect a big bump up from last year.  

New, stricter guidelines for adult costumes this year.  No weapons, full body costume props and layered costumes will be searched.  Thanks, ISIS.

I've attended this event in Orlando and Anaheim, and it really is fantastic.  The kids have a great time in costume, the characters are in costume, there's candy everywhere, and late in the night the ride lines get really short.  That Boo To You parade is my favorite Disney parade by a mile.

That $149 is the price for the party.  Ticket will go live at 7:00 PM for park admission, get to stay three hours after the park closes, but at least half the park will shut down at closing.  From what we know right now, I gotta rate this event a "skip it".  I suspect this is a ploy to make a big 2016 price increase for the Halloween and Christmas parties not look so bad.

MK will also experiment with a paid Early Morning Magic event this spring.  On some days when MK opens at 10:00 am, they will sell Early Morning Magic tickets to get into the park at 7:30.  $69 for adults, $49 for kids.

Before you rush to buy, here's what will actually be open during these paid Early Morning Magic events:

The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh

A complimentary continental breakfast at Pinocchio Village Haus

That's it.  70 bucks for the parents and 50 bucks for the kids to hit the three high-demand Fantasyland rides, plus breakfast in the park before it opens.

If I had little kids, I'd consider buying this event before that late-night one.  You're pretty much buying three extra FastPasses for rides the kids will love and want to do right away.  And if there's bacon at the continental breakfast I can make up a lot of the ticket cost right there.

Is  it better than the Christmas party?   We did the Halloween parade last year and the year before we were down there for Christmas, but skipped the parade.  Debating this year, but the wife wants Christmas.  The kids loved the snow...

I figure they are both pretty similar.  Getting in costume is just fun.

The 2nd fire video shows one of the monkey men skipping away like a monkey.  Even in the midst of an emergency he didn't want to break character.  Bravo.

Yes, they are essentially the same experience with different themes. Halloween, kids can trick or treat. Christmas you get cookies and hot chocolate. Halloween, you get a picture by the Haunted Mansion with ghosts. Christams you get pictures with Mickey and Minnie in their Christmas clothes. Parades are themed to each holiday

Had dinner at cape may tonight for the first time. If you love seafood and you haven't been there, you are messing up.

Easily one of the best Disney meals I've had.

Agreed.  I went there probably 8-10 years ago now and still remember that meal.  Fantastic.

Nice!  Did Cape May breakfast once to meet the characters there on Trip Of A Lifetime I, but never had dinner there.

All you can eat crab legs steamed right there in front of you at the buffet table. So good. Amazing shrimp made in some old bay boil. Good mussels and clams (not the cheap stuff). Salmon (again not chef Mickey crap) and tons of other stuff. Really great, can't believe we've never been there. 

 
too bad i'm the only one in my family that eats seafood >:(

I may have to make a secret late night ADR and sneak out when they are all sleeping.
