Plus, I got my eye on one that he has on eBay that apparently is out of print and was pulled from market after 1 day of publishing b/c of some content. So its super rare. Fingers crossed.

If eBay user "MoreCowbellDLRRoolz" enters the bidding... it's a total coincidence and I was out of town when that #### happened.

Seriously... that looks really cool.  One thing I've noticed from all our DLR visits is the deeper sense of its own history DLR has than WDW.  The kid just got a gorgeous reproduction of this vintage Haunted Mansion poster and the newest addition to my whimsical T-shirt collection is this Hoth tourism poster done in the style of old Disneyland promotional posters.  (It's a set of four: Hoth, Tattooine, Space Slug tribute to Storybook Canal, and Forest Moon Of Endor tribute to Haunted Mansion with Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Anakin as the Hitchhikers).

that shirt is very cool. Love the ride posters. Have you heard of Ty Mattson? He's a designer I follow who did some SW minimalist posters that got really popular recently. 

Speaking of posters, I just added this one to the home office wall. I wish I had more wall space, there are a few i want.   adding a few bonus shots of the home office. Link  Link Link

 
Ok - going to put the :nerd:  test on the thread.  Th Ref family is going to be in Europe for a while this summer and I'd like to spend one day at Disneyland Paris.  Already have a hotel booked on site (cheapest of the 2.5 weeks). What do I need to know about tickets/fast passes etc?

Intrigued but confused. I always thought you could only get fast passes with cards that are used as tickets. Do these cards you bought on EBay still have day passes on them?

My family is going later this year on an Alaskan disney cruise...two young kids...really curious what other's experiences were and what tips they'd offer.

I was on the Fantasy for 7 days; left from Canaveral, hit Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Falmouth, and then the Disney island.  Niece and nephew are 13 and 10.  Nephew could have spent the whole trip on the sports deck shooting baskets and riding the raft water ride.  Niece was sick the first few days with flu/cold, and she's at an age where nothing is cool enough for her.  Neither of them were into the characters or what I'd normally associate with Disney. 

The 2 days at sea: One was a Pirate day, the other was a Star Wars day.  I was surprised at the number of families totally costumed up.  Wish I had brought my Jedi costume and maybe planned ahead and gotten a pirate on this last halloween.  Not having kids, it was entertaining watching all of the little Reys, Vaders and Kylos walking around.  My family didn't dress up at all.

I wish I had gone with my niece and nephew when they were younger.  They liked watching the Disney movies playing on the big screen over the pool, but I know 3-5 years ago they would have been 10 times more excited. 

I had a lot of fun and the service was great.  The premium price for the cruise, I don't know if I'd want to spend that much again, but it was fun.

Wife just got back...nothing really new to report from her trip other than the RoL show.  She said it was pretty awesome....and she's hard to impress. 

 
the new Magic Kingdom bag check locations went into effect today.

I've mentioned it before, but basically, they have moved most screwing stations outside of the monorail loop.

Screening goes as follows:
For guests parking in the parking lot, and anyone dropped off by an off site hotel shuttle, you will be screened at the TTC
Each monorail resort station will have a screening station.
Guests arriving by WDW transport bus, will be screened outside the drop off area
Guests arriving by resort boat will be screened at the MK dock
Guests walking in from the pathway from BLT/Contemp Resort will be screened at the end of that walkway.

They also added stations at the dock for Contemp resort and Fort Wilderness. Not sure specifically why there are there vs the other MK area docks?

Edit..you know what, I came in to fix this auto correct...but why...just leave it is is..lol

Normally I'd be disappointment that there was no Rapunzel...but I can't.  This is the best thing I've seen in a while.

(Note: my time in academia includes a project working with GI Bill students, helping identity challenges they have adjusting to life in college after, for example, their previous job involved spotting IEDs so their transport didn't get blown up going over a bridge.  I still keep up with several of these heroes on social media.)

(Note: this was a distraction technique, as the student who posted this is not a GI Bill guy, but a young woman from a different section, who dances on the weekends to pay for school and tagged a few co-workers when she posted the link.  This might not have been the most honest thing I did yesterday.)

 
Headed down to look at houses next week and thinking of taking the kids to Disney or Universal for a day (pending good behavior).  WTF is up with the prices at Universal?  Any places to book that get them even close to what a day at Magic Kingdom costs?

At least two years away.  ETA: for the new immersive "Star Wars Land".  

DHS has a Star Tours ride featuring Star Wars characters, Trials Of The Temple where kids can undergo Jedi training, and the Star Wars Launch Bay with character meets and merchandise.  There's also a Star Wars themed fireworks show, not sure if it runs every night.

We saw Rivers of Light tonight. I have a few thoughts. 

- it was fine but there was no coherent story. Now mind you, I don't really need a story, but there was just this floating frog, and elephant and then an owl and then some lotus flowers and it was kind of like what the #### is the meaning of all this? Is it just because we are in the animal park? There was barely a minute of narration total and then some dancers on a boat with some crap music and then some pictures of a tiger roaring on a stream of water. 

- as to that last point, it was kind of a poor man's world of color, except this debuted like 10 years later and is substantially worse. Where did all the money go for this? Like I said it was neat, but it didn't blow me away at all like a dozen other things at Disney have. It actually felt like a show you would see at a park that is trying to rip off Disney. 

- not much excitement for it! We bought the dining pass (see below) and got there 35 minutes early and were joined by....I dunno, 40 people? The whole bowl barely filled up by the time the show started. If this thing is still going in 2020 I will be floored. 

- had dinner at Tusker house. Had breakfast there a year ago and it was good, so we decided to try the dinner to reserve our seat to rivers of light (definitely not needed). Anyhow, everything was dry and overcooked. A lot of Disney food can be really good, a lot can be really bad, but for 55 bucks a person I expect a touch better. 

- no signs of avatar land at all in the park except for the fence where the entrance will be. I figured we would see more signs and things. If you had no idea it was about to open you still wouldn't after spending a day there. You could see a floating mountain from the parking lot though, looked cool. 

- I still say your best bang for your laughter buck there is sitting through it's a bug's life and watching the #### your pants fear either your kids or other kids in the audience will go through. What in the holy #### were they thinking when they came up with this? :lmao:  Like 5 kids were carried out of there screaming at the top of their lungs.

Disappointing that Rivers Of Light wasn't better.  Ton of opportunity there.  IIRC, World Of Color was a park-changing smash the night it opened, so who knows what's going on with Rivers Of Llight.

The part I quoted, :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:    The kid was four the first time she went to DLR.  She loved all the rides at A Bug's Land in DCA, but oh man when the stinger stabbed her in the back during It's Tough To Be A Bug?  She.  Was.  Done.  Had to carry her out.

Yeah...was reading a bit about it last night.  Doesn't seem like a ton there anymore (not that there was before).  Wondering if we can make a day of it.  We just wanted to do a quick hit sort of visit at one of the parks as a "treat" at the end of the week we are about to embark on.

my (already afraid of her own shadow) daughter was 4 also when we saw this and HFS, i still think it will come up in therapy when she is older. 

it took us 3 trips and 6 years for her to do it again and even at 10 she wasn't a huge fan. Its some scary ####, no joke. those spiders did her in. 

 
About to pull the trigger on an early October trip so we can hit the Halloween Party and food and wine. When we went in December we stayed at Riverside and really loved it. Would it be stupid to stay at the same hotel again? Feel like I'm missing out by not going elsewhere but I'm not sure I want to splurge on a deluxe resort and Riverside seems like by far the best option amongst the moderates

Nothing wrong with staying in the same place, esp if its a spur of the moment trip. You know it, no risk. I normally stay in the same resort (Bay Lake Tower) b/c we know it so well and the location works perfectly for us. 

Good thing about Port Orleans though is that it does have 2 sides, so maybe you might try the other side. 

There are not a whole lot of choices in the moderate level, esp now that Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs will be under construction. 

One option to dabble in a deluxe resort with a moderate(ish) budget is to rent DVC points. I know we've spoken about it here before, so if it might interest you and want to know more, let me know.

agreed...and I've mentioned it before, but these parties create really bad "forced crowd levels" at MK on non-party days.
