Disney Vacation (6 Viewers)

I found this:

Travel Directions: Complimentary taxi vouchers (through Yellow Cab) are provided for Walt Disney World Resort guests who are going to play golf at one of Disney's golf courses. The Valet desk or Bell Services will call a cab for Guests. The Pro Shop at the golf course will assist guests in returning to their resort. The Lake Buena Vista golf course is located near the Downtown Disney Marketplace and within the grounds of Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort. Exit I-4 onto 535. Turn left onto Hotel Plaza Boulevard. At the end of Hotel Plaza Boulevard (the Marketplace will be in front of you), turn right and follow the signs to the course.

From what I gather, the clubhouse is a short walk from the main Saratoga Springs Main building, and it looks like there is a boat dock at SSR. So i think you should be covered. But always best to check at the resort before going anywhere.

Grassy...think we’ll make a day of it: park at Disney Springs, boat over to Saratoga, golf and wash up at clubhouse, drinks/food at Disney Springs after

The Magic Bands you get with your reservation will soon get plussed (for a cost). Now, in addition to the main single colored bands you get to select from, you can upgrade your MB to a character designed one for $14.99 off the regular price. That puts most bands in the $10 upgrade range. There are over 30 designs to choose from and if you order them 11 day before arrival, then you can have them shipped to your house as normal, or have them shipped to the resort within 6 days of arrival.

I don't love upcharges, but this is one I could live with as i'm getting sick of the single color bands. I think a have multiple of every color (except pink man!)

@doowain FYI, still unconfirmed, but promising.
Excellent.  Thanks for the update!
I think I saw a dude wearing his magic band on his watch last weekend....was wondering when they'd come around to that obvious solution.

I'm thinking that they plan on flowing you through the land, like a tour guide. So you will return for your reservation time and wait in a group outside the land. From there they release you into the land and you ride the ride. From there you are funneled through the land, shops and whatnot as the next group is going through. Its possible that they may supply colored wrist bands or something that will identify your time slot and then (politely) ask you to exit the land after a set amount of time and they notice you are overstaying based on the color of the wristband. IDK just a guess. But they have capacity restrictions just like in Orlando. So they need move bodies through the land and not allow it to get overrun.

Based on this new virtual queue, I dont think they will have 2-hour waits for the ride. You'll be able to walk around the park until your time is ready. THen you will be in a large, but not outrageous group moved into the ride. I'd say they want to keep you waiting under 40mins for the ride—because they are collecting the next group to be released right behind yours....wash, rinse repeat.....

Boom! I could run that place..lol

New details about crowd control and the opening of SWGE in DL.

If you were wondering how Disney will enforce those 4-hour reservations to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge from May 31st through June 23rd, wonder no longer. Per Brady MacDonald of the OC Register:

Disneyland expects that four hours will be enough time for most visitors to explore Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during the initial reservation-only period and that scoundrels who overstay their welcome will be dealt with by a squadron of stormtroopers.

Disneyland will restrict visitors with free Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge reservations to a 4-hour time limit during an initial “soft opening” period of the highly anticipated new themed land at the Anaheim theme park.

Disneyland will issue colored wristbands to visitors during the reservation-only period for each of the four-hour windows. Newly-admitted Galaxy’s Edge visitors will mix in with those already in the land much like the Halloween events at Disneyland.

After each four-hour window ends, Disneyland employees may turn away visitors with expired wristbands attempting to enter the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction, Oga’s Cantina cocktail lounge, Docking Bay 7 restaurant and the Savi’s Workshop and Droid Depot experiential shops.

“At a certain point, if we have to, then we’ll start to ask them to leave the land,” said Disneyland vice president Kris Theiler. Disneyland expects that most visitors will find four hours to be more than enough time to explore the new 14-acre Star Wars land. “Four hours is a long time in the land,” Theiler said. “Most guests are going to find that they’re ready to roll after four hours.” Stragglers will be dealt with by the First Order stormtroopers patrolling the land.

“We’ll be utilizing the troopers to help us, for sure,” Theiler joked.

The goal is to keep the wait times for Smugglers Run under two hours, Theiler said. Accommodations will be made if the attraction should experience any downtime.

“We want to try and make sure that people aren’t spending the whole time standing in the queue,” Theiler said. At the same time, Disney doesn’t want riders waiting until the last minute of their four-hour window to get in line for Smugglers Run.

Bongos Cuban Cafe at Disney Springs will be closing this August. It is rumored that it is moving to the new Margaritaville resort. Bongos was one of the last original restaurants back when it was Downtown Disney.

I'm bad at asking about Magic Shots, but here are a few cool ones you can get at Hollywood Studios. I really want the Rizzo one when I go back.!!

Also:

Animal Kingdom

Epcot

MK
When we went a couple of years ago the photographer told us all to look to the side and act scared. We gladly obliged thinking something cool was going to come out of it. Later looked at the app and there was a picture of all of us looking to the side and being scared. What were we scared of? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Someone forgot to put the Magic Shot piece into the picture. It's actually now one of my favorite pictures from our trip.

Lol.  Maybe they could have photoshopped a “final amount due” bill in there.

If that ever happens again, you can call photopass and they will fix the picture.

If you like to rent a car at MCO while in FL, there is a new test program by the Fla highway authority that will loan you a Visitor Toll Pass unit. Its from May 1st - Aug 1. Basically, you make a reservation online and then stop at the Visitor Toll Pass counter before getting your rental car. Then just return it after you return your rental car.

I have not rented a car there in years, but according to this post, there are toll charging options when renting a car, but they are typically more expensive than the normal prices.IDK

Regardless, here is the link if you are interested.

This is actually a good idea.  Rental car daily toll fees are a joke.

The rrevitalization off Hollywood Studios rolls on

Next up in the line of store remodeling projects at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be Mickey’s of Hollywood at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The shop on Hollywood Boulevard is set to close on May 14th, 2019 and remain closed through September 2019.

Mickey’s of Hollywood is basically the Emporium of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, often regarded as the main or headlining shop for the park. The shop takes up the entire first block of store facades to the left upon entering Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

My only hope is they don’t make all of them “cookie cutter”.  Emporium, Mouse Gears, World of Disney - I love going through all of them, finding some unique gift or collectible is half the fun.  I can remember 17 years ago when we first started going I would skip shopping because I hate to shop.  Now, I still say I hate to shop but shopping at Disney stores  is one of my favorite things to do.

I'm not a shopper there, I just don't have the room or need a lot of Disney branded merchandise (I collect more vintage WDW stuff). But I hear what you are saying, they have really cookie cutter'ed the shops. HS esp, I loved browsing the shops there, namely the Villian's shop and Sid Cahuenga's—that was the green shack near the front of the park that had all the movie costumes and autographed items.

I also remember when the emporium on Main St was a series of different shops until it was reworked and combined into one 1 big a$$ gift shop. Lost a loto f Main St charm after that.

Thanks Acer - will read during lunch.  It’s really fascinating to see some of the things they are doing with shopping on Disney property.  I think @glvsav37 was the one that mentioned how they changed the layout of the Emporium and sales went up.  For me and my family, the shopping aspect of our trips has become a major part.  Unlike my wife and kids, I have the patience to see something I like but wait until I find that “perfect” souvenir.  It’s almost a game for me now.

Quick tangent but related - back in October I bought a Mickey baseball hat.  Loved the concept - Mickey over the years and the colors were perfect for my taste.  I almost bought that hat early in the year and on this trip I stalked this hat and finally pulled the trigger on it.  Brought it home, wore it twice and somehow managed to lose the damn thing.  It up and vanished like a fart in the wind.  Pisses me off.

Odd question:  anyone know if the boats at Disney Springs have a drop off at/walking distance to the LBV golf course?

We stayed in Saratoga Springs back in 2010 and if my memory is correct the boat dock is right there at the Pro Shop.

UPDATE: According to Disney, the MagicBands will be available for purchase starting on May 15, 2019. Guests will be expected to pay $14.99 for each upgraded MagicBand at the time of selection. Upgraded MagicBands are non-returnable and non-refundable. This includes guests who have canceled their reservations. In addition, if a reservation is canceled, guests will be charged the full price (not the $14.99 discounted) rate for the MagicBands.
@doowain just checked and it appears its not avail yet.  grrrrrrrr

The name of the new signature dining location at the Japan pavilion was announced yesterday.

Takumi-Tei, and it is said to be open by this summer.

The restaurant will be named Takumi-Tei, which means house of the artisan. The design celebrates the relationship between Japanese craftsmanship and the natural world, while the food is inspired by the wonderful collaboration between nature and takumi, the artisan.

According to internal documents we previously unveiled, the interior will have a few different themed rooms:
• Material Room (Check-In, Lobby)
• Wa Room
• Water Room
• Washi Room
• Wood Room
• Stone Room
• Earth Room

The upscale dinner menu will highlight wagyu beef (let's hope it's not shipped by FedEx, right @[icon] ) in a sublime setting, and guests interested in the ultimate experience will be able to indulge in a multi-course tasting menu featuring traditional tea service. Signature cocktails and premium sake will be available along with a wine and craft beer menu.

Love it or hate it, get ready for the lovely smell of gasoline and the unmistakable sounds of lawn mowers to be back in the MK

after being closed for a few months to accommodate the Tron coaster construction, the Tomorrowland Speedway reopened today.

While it was down, it got a nice new paint job and the track was slightly altered and shortened but not by much.

Rode it yesterday AM. Had no idea it was closed but I remarked to my wife it looked fresh. My four year old loves that ride.

Love Kona. Don’t tell anyone in here, but I much prefer it to Ohana.
For breakfast I completely agree - for dinner, I really enjoy the sushi at Kona but ‘Ohana is just magical. People point out that you can’t get some of the items over at Kona but that seems like a selling point for ‘Ohana.

So, it’s mostly official - we are giving up our free dining trip in September to go to the beach instead.  I’m completely bummed about it but dropping 7-8k was going to be tough - we’ve had so many trips in the last year for my kids sporting events (including 2 trips to Orlando for cheer and then a week at Universal back in March.

@glvsav37 - is it possible to transfer a resort reservation?  I’ve got 2 rooms at one of the All-Star resorts that I’d happily pass to a FBG if it’s allowed.

I thought they were getting rid of it?

You were dropping 8k and staying at an all star. Something doesnt add up. We stayed for a week at Boardwalk and wasnt even half of that.

looks like he had 2 rooms, so that's prob more than 5 people, so with tix and such, I can see it getting there.

@AAABatteries sorry to hear man. IDK about the transfer, I'm sure you can, but I would check with guest services 1st.

nope, here for a while. It is some prime MK real estate that is constantly debated over if the speedway is the best thing for that location. But with them building the Tron coaster on a previously undeveloped area behind this, I would say that someone in WDW management has a soft spot for it.

2 rooms, dining plan upgrade and week of tickets.  I think it was 6,300.  I factored in gas, food tips and souvenirs.

Yep - taking 6 people on property is the suck.  It’s why we almost always stay off property.

Ok, if they will let me transfer anybody want to take one or both?  Honestly, I don’t even care about the deposit, I just hate giving up the free dining.

Can I get an Amen!!

Construction walls went up around 1 side of Epcot's 'Leave a legacy' monoliths last night.

They are being removed and relocated as part of a new Epcot entry renovation.

Here are all the designs available for the new magic bands that you can order for a slight upcharge in place of the MBs that come with your reservation.

I'm diggin:

• Space Ship Earth
• Male Villians
• Vader
• Nightmare Before Christmas

@doowain which did you order/thinking of ordering?

I'll probably just stick with a solid color.  Considered Vader.

Toy Story for the kids.  Wife wants the "Most Magical Place on Earth" with Cinderella's castle.
