Disney Vacation (2 Viewers)

Switching over to Universal. Over in Japan they are in the (delayed) final stages of opening Super Nintendo World and the reason I'm posting is that it is expected to be pretty much a carbon copy of what we can expect in the new Universal "Fantastic Worlds" theme park under construction now in Orlando.

Alicia Stella over at Theme Park Stop (great person to follow for lock solid rumors BTW) posted a video showing the progress and what to expect. Looks insanely themed and the Kong area—which is an expansion phase in Japan but is supposed to in the Orlando park—looks awesome.

Shift of Circumstances!!!!!!

I mentioned previously that my wife completely squashed the possibility of us participating in a "soft opening" (invited by her friend) a few weeks ago.  However, now that school is out and the kids are going freakin' crazy in the house, she is now open to possibly going..asking her friend about it today :lmao:

I'm so anxious for them to reopen just to get an idea of whether or not we will go in October.  I've changed my mind multiple times, but its big shift into not going.  Unless there are some price breaks or some sort of incentive, I don't see it happening.

It's starting to feel like a disaster waiting to happen for Disney.  Hope I'm wrong.

With the significant increases we are seeing here in Central Florida, I wouldn't be surprised if they delay their opening

Big news today: WDW retiring complimentary Magic Bands at the end of 2020 in favor of everything moving to the MDE app.

"In 2021, we plan to unveil an innovative new offering as part of the My Disney Experience app that will bring features of a MagicBand to your smart devices, building on the app’s existing digital key feature. With this new offering on the horizon, we will be retiring our complimentary MagicBand distribution to Disney Resort hotel guests for new reservations with arrivals beginning Jan. 1, 2021."

Guests can still purchase MB's after the change, for now:

"Disney Resort hotel guests will continue to have the option to purchase new MagicBands at a discount, and we’ll be introducing even more colors and designs featuring favorite Disney characters in the future. Guests who prefer not to purchase a discounted MagicBand will be able to use the My Disney Experience app or a Key to the World card during their visit. We will still offer MagicBands in retail locations and on shopDisney.com, and guests will be able to continue using the wearables throughout Walt Disney World Resort."

This was included in this blog post outlining the reservation procedure called "Disney Park Pass"

https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/06/introducing-the-disney-park-pass-system-for-reserving-theme-park-visits-to-walt-disney-world-resort/?CMP=SOC-DPFY20Q3wo0618200018A&fbclid=IwAR2OyafI1ojYHWBD7B4UYb4JdRImF3zARV1G2VFXmyRjAzdvbONIl4es55g

Once you’ve logged into your My Disney Experience account and linked your ticket, you’ll have access to a calendar of available reservation dates for each theme park. If you have a multi-day ticket, you will be required to make a park reservation for each date of your visit. Families and friends can link their tickets together and look to arrange theme park entries at the same time.

Please note, park reservations are limited in number and subject to availability. Availability can change until the reservation is finalized. At this time, guests will be able to select one park per day; visiting more than one park per day will be temporarily unavailable upon the reopening of the theme parks due to attendance limitations.

Things are looking bad in Florida.   No way would I go anywhere near the parks.

Right? Some of the counties in the Tampa Bay area require employees to self quarantine 14 days after travel anywhere. There is no such policy for those visiting a theme park. I’d fly any day over going to Disney for a very long time.

NY state is considering quarantining anyone coming from Florida...   Think that says a lot of what Florida's numbers look like.

Every single one of you needs to turn in your sarcasm meter...it needs calibration.  Yeah, it was a joke 99.999999999999999% joke...the kids are driving us crazy (well, more her than me but....).  She did reach out to her friend to see what the deal was...hasn't heard back.  We aren't going anywhere near those parks for a while.

Or not....got this email:

Soon it’ll be time to return to the enchantment. To zip through space, go on safari, soar around the world and take a wacky ride on a runaway railway. But before we reopen the gates, we wanted to share some important information that will help you make the most of the magic.

NEW THEME PARK RESERVATION SYSTEM

We continue to keep the health and well-being of our cast, Guests and communities top of mind, so as we take this measured approach to reopen our Theme Parks, we will manage attendance through our new Disney Park Pass system. This new Theme Park reservation system on DisneyWorld.com will require all Guests to make advance reservations for Theme Park entry.

Passholders with an existing Disney Resort or other select hotel reservation can access the Disney Park Pass system beginning June 22, while all Annual Passholders are eligible to make Theme Park reservations starting June 26. Pass blockout dates apply and you should check the applicable blockout calendar for your pass type prior to making your Theme Park reservations.

In order to make your reservations, you will need a My Disney Experience account and valid annual pass linked to it. If you’re staying at a Disney Resort hotel, be sure to link your Resort reservation to your My Disney Experience account as well. Simply log into your My Disney Experience account and check for the date and Theme Park you wish to visit. To enter a Theme Park, both a reservation and valid ticket or annual pass for admission to the same Park on the same date are required, and you must make a separate reservation for each date you plan to visit. Please note that reservations are limited in capacity, subject to availability and are not guaranteed until confirmed. Click here for more information. All Annual Passholders are eligible to make Theme Park reservations for up to three days at a time, or Annual Passholders staying at select Disney Resort or other select hotels with valid Theme Park admission are eligible to make Theme Park reservations for their entire Resort length of stay.

Please remember to check the Disney Park Pass system (once available) from time to time as Theme Park reservation availability can change.

A PHASED REOPENING

As a reminder, Magic Kingdom® Park and Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park are scheduled to reopen on July 11, followed by EPCOT® and Disney’s Hollywood Studios® on July 15.

PASSHOLDER PREVIEW

Weekday Select, Theme Park Select, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Platinum Plus and Premier Passholders will have the opportunity to register for a special preview opportunity at Magic Kingdom® Park or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park on July 9 or 10. Email invitations with registration details will be sent out soon. Reservations are required, limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

PASSHOLDER OPTIONS

As the Walt Disney World Theme Parks prepare to reopen, we see a lot of Passholder enthusiasm to get back to the magic. We’re eager to see our cherished Passholders too! We also recognize that Theme Park reservations will change the way many of our Passholders prefer to enjoy their pass. With that in mind, we are offering alternative options to help you manage your pass. Click here for additional details. We’ll send more information in early July on how to select these options.

To thank you for your loyalty, we want to give you a sprinkle of pixie dust by mailing you an exclusive magnet later this summer (one per household).

We know your next visit will be different. But together, we can find new ways to enjoy magical moments and create memories to last a lifetime. Before you arrive, please check out some things to Know Before You Go.

Hope to see you real soon!

We're supposed to go in November. Thanksgiving week.

I'm starting to have significant doubts whether that's a good idea, even if allowed. Through the "give kids the world" program, which I can only assume is going to be significantly limited even if the other visitors aren't.

Hate the idea of them trying to make you use your phone for everything. Hell, my parents still use flip phones.

Stupid nickel and dime BS that Disney is becoming more and more associated with.

Im lucky if I make it thru 2:00pm with any battery left these days. and that is on medium battery mode which does not work with MDE. If I had to use high battery and use my phone for everything in Disney, I will not be able to get into my room at night.

Its fine for me. I have 10 magic bands from previous trips that Ill use.

We carry a backpack for incidentals and my wife and I take turns carrying it. One (actually,  two) of the things we carry are fully charged portable power bricks.

But, yeah. I'm just going to dip into my collection of old bands for future trips.

Started tossing around the idea of skipping Orlando in October, but going to Aulani, the DVC resort in Hawaii.

Anyone been? We've only had one person we know go and they didn't like it, but we don't value their opinion very much.

And does anyone know if they are having the same measures of no meet and greets and limited restaurants?  I've looked a little, but can't find much reliable info.
We did Aulani about 4 years ago.  Great trip.  The hotel is very nice, and it is basically a water park in the middle.  Expensive, but would go back.  Aulani was only part of our trip, as we also spent a few days in Hilo.  I wouldn't go now (2020) due to quarantine restrictions though.

Cancelled my trip for August.  My daughter is disappointed, but it is just not going to be the same at this time.  Really a bummer..

Disneyland has delayed their opening beyond the anticipated July 17th target date.  No official new date has been announced.

Wtf?

My kids were pissed at hearing this.
Pissed is not the word I was use for my 10 yo. It is his favorite ride. He is throwing up the 2 finger Stone Cold salute to Disney and asking why they are screwing him. He didnt want to hear the explanation about WHY they are changing it

Yeah, but it’s not a surprise at all. It was kind of weird to have a ride based on such an obscure movie anyway. Add in the fact that the movie was pretty racist and the real surprise was that it wasn’t changed a lot sooner.

I didn't know it was based on a movie

My daughter and I were on our nightly walk and, out of nowhere, told me 'I'm never going on that new ride '.

Lol, she's hard-headed like her old man.

Lol, apparently the Dis boards don't like dissenting opinion on anything. When I posted that I thought that getting rid of the Splash Mountain theming was idiotic and brought up Princess and the Frog was considered to be a failure at the box office to another poster who was talking up how many more people would love the P&tF over SM they banned me.

Social media and forums are a scary place these days if you have a differing opinion. I think we have hit a point where people have begun silencing themselves over fear of being ganged up on and then the inevitable canceling.

I'm not a fan of this re-theme, but i cant say I didnt see it coming. Apparently Disney has said that they have been working on this for over a year, but the timing of the announcement will forever cloud what may have been a noble idea.

My problem is with the Disney community as a whole who is now all virtue signaling on all SM platforms claiming they "always knew Splash Mtn was racist" and "its about time they tore it down" and "how offensive its existence is" then going on to lecture anyone who does not agree with it.

My standard social post has been: If it was sooo offensive and racist to all of you, then why did it constantly have an hour+ wait?? lol

they even scrubbed the SM stuff from shop disney.  there wasn't much anyway,  but what was there as soon as Saturday isn't there now.

I grew up having to spend every Saturday night with my granny and Song of the South was the only VHS she had.  This was probably when I was 5 to 8 or 9.  Obviously I wasn't thinking about it being racist.  I just thought it was cool the real people were interacting with cartoons.  Its a bit of an over reaction, but if we're scrubbing everything we might a s well  scrub EVERYTHING.  They have to keep zip-a-dee-doo-dah somewhere!

I'm not too upset.  Most people never knew the movie the ride was based on.  Disney gets to kill two birds with one stone here.  They get to remove the characters and replace them with a Character of color, which I guess we can all agree that there aren't enough of around the parks.

Now, if i was in charge we'd just put up a sign at the entrance, "Caution you may get wet and offended."

Maybe they can do away with that last, completely needless, splash that gets you as you get stuck in the log jam right before you get off the log?

Not usually one to quote myself,  but this goes hand in hand with this post from yesterday.

My daughter and I are Funko collectors. Mostly Disney , she likes the princess stuff and more traditional stuff, i like collecting the ones based off the rides and older stuff. Anyway, the Funko three pack (has Rabbit, Bear, Fox) that was widely available as early as this time last week and the Splash Mountain log flume  one that's been sold out for a while now are going for crazy prices on eBay.  I shouldn't have shown my wife, pretty sure she's plotting to sell them now.  😐

Still planning on opening in Orlando this week among record COVID-19 cases? Not smart, not safe. Disney putting profit over health. They will have people visit their properties, get sick and die. Nothing personal, the virus doesn’t know it’s Disney. It just does what it does.

Friend has a lot of trepidation about opening up, but Florida seems to be full speed ahead.  It's on the people to do the right thing.  I'll say this, been watching the Universal Studios numbers (our local news has been following them and Sea World) and they have yet to come close to even their 25% capacity....most days are between 10-12%.  I don't see how they are losing less money being open than just shutting down honestly

Park capacity is what I'm interested to see too.  If the park is at 30%, but everything is up and running it could potentially be an incredible vacation.

Still too many unknowns for us to want to at full price.

Sort of off topic, but I wonder how local schools will react if you go?  We started talking about this over the weekend.  If we still go in October, knowing the risks, would our school make us quarantine for 2 weeks before coming back to school?

There is going to be plenty that isn't running.  No parades, no fireworks, no meet/greets and I'm still not sure how dining will work.  For now, the opening capacity is 25% based on what she told us.

If I can't get Food and Wine it's not worth going anyway!  I kid but F&W is actually one thing they may could do.  Limited menu, you could social distance folks in the line and pay on the app.  The only issue is you have to take your mask off to eat and drink.

Last I heard they are not only doing F&W, but they’re actually expanding the dates.

I don't think they are taking away Food and Wine....if I remember correctly, they will still have it, for a longer period of time and fewer people in the park at any given time.

For the first time ever (it seems), Peter Pan was a walk on wait yesterday. Took longer to walk the que then ride the ride.
