Disturbed does Simon&Garfunkel proud. Sound of Silence. (1 Viewer)

Saw this show last night... unreal performance. Being the last show on the "small club" leg of this world tour, they cut loose a bit.

Nearly every show on this tour featured a 12 song setlist with 11 songs being static and rotating one random song into the 7 or 12 slot. They were playing land of confusion and sounds of silence at every show (which they NAILED live).

Last night when they hit the 12th song, you could see the band looking at each other a bit, then they launched into another song... then another...

At one point they broke into:
"Closer" by Nine Inch Nails > "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2 medley
Followed that with a fantastic version of "Baba o'Riley" by The Who
After that, they quickly jumped into a room-shaking version of "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against the Machine, bringing Elias Soriano (lead singer of Nonpoint) back out.
After making a joke about covers and talking about playing on beale street, he did the first couple verses of "Heartbreak Hotel" by Elvis acapella.

They played a couple more tracks and closed with Down With The Sickness, thanked the crowd for being so into the show, announced "Hope you guys realize you got something special tonight, being the last show on the small club leg of the tour. There won't be another show like this in America for a long long time". Took a big picture with the crowd and bid adieu.

Amazing show...
I saw them last Thursday in Detroit, also at a small venue (St. Andrews Hall, for those around here). Like you said, it was an awesome show. They did Closer, U2 and Killing in the Name (not sure about Baba o'Riley, but they did brink the lead singer of Nonpoint back out in Detroit as well and that segment went on for quite a while.)

During the "covers section" my wife got her ankle stepped on (we were right near the mosh pit, and it veered into us) and so we were working out way back out during the encore (nothing broken, but a pretty serious sprain; she was hurting really bad). Still, despite the sprained ankle, still one of the better concerts we've been to recently (and my wife concurs). We were probably 4-5 rows from the front until we started heading back out.

We have tickets to 2 more Disturbed shows this summer, at Pine Knob (DTE) and over in Grand Rapids, but I don't expect either of those to be quite the same as this one in the small venue.

Yeah, the growl is pretty cringeworthy, brings to mind Staind, Limp Bizkit and similar bands. It's not as egregious as a cover of Black by Pearl Jam that I heard from one of the nu metal bands though. I forget who it was, Puddle of Mudd maybe?
I was going to point out the lot of wrong in this post but than I saw who it was. Crazy ole McGarnicle.

So strange.. Setlist.fm has been showing more limited sets every night. Glad other's got to see the extended set. Sorry your wife got hurt... That sucks. We stayed out of the pit for the most part for that reason. Too old for that stuff :)

Yah, might be because it's Detroit, bands tend to bring their A-Game here as well, which is nice for us. As for the pit, I didn't really realize it was that close until a song or two before that, but there really wasn't anywhere to go and we figured it was only a few more songs. I'm there to see the band, not bounce into a buncha other dudes.

After several listens, I'm going on record to say it's better than the original.  I don't say this lightly as I love Art Garfunkel's voice, but this version is so much more powerful than the original.   They friggin' crushed it.

Yikes. I do think the remake is incredibly well done. But one of the biggest factors that makes the song amazing are the vocal harmonies. Draiman does a fantastic job singing half of those vocals. But without the harmonies, much of the magic is lost.

Exactly. Nowhere near the potency of the S&G. It's overwrought. All of the delicacy replaced with ham-fisted melodrama. The video is straight out of Spinal Tap.

It's a nice vocal, but I think it's best left at that. Comparing to S&G isn't doing him any favors.

Agree.  Like I said earlier, I wanted to hate it but it's pretty good.  But let's not go overboard, the original is just about perfect.  S&G were not the musicians that others were but lyrically and vocally the are about as good as it gets.

While I agree with you on that facet... I would much rather have Disturbed's vision on a constant repeat.

let me tell you a story one time a friend of ours had a kid who was in a high school musical and that kid sort of thought he was the one kid who got it and he had deeper feelings than everyone else and when he got up on stage everything was throwing his voice all over and loud then soft and holding his fist up and all that stuff when he sang and in the end he just sounded like a lousy vegas show and looked like a laroosh well there you have it brohans take that to the burning buried instruments for some reason bank bromigos

Not a fan of Disturbed but kudos to this version of a classic song. I think it pays homage to the original yet puts a nice spin on it without going overboard.
