division breakout for 12 team league (1 Viewer)

Currently we use 2 (6) team divisions with us playing 3 DH's so that everybody plays each other at least once. I used a custom schedule via MFL and picked weeks 3, 11, & 12 so that we avoided "bye" weeks. Pretty popular decision this past summer, but somehow a huge uproar after week 11 & 12 due to teams having "bad" weeks.

I'm looking at converting our league into a 4 division with (3) team/div. Does anyone use that now and find it satisfying? My goal is we play everone at least once, but the DH's is an issue right now.

In my 12 team league we have it setup as 4 divisions of 3. You play the other teams in your division twice (4 games) and everyone else once (9 games). It works perfectly for a 13-week season.

12 teams, 4 divisionsPlay teams in your division twice and all other teams oncemy redraft league uses it and I like it.

Part of the fantasty football season includes the 'luck of the draw' on the schedule. I wouldn't make any changes to the schedule or division unless it is agreed by all parties. Not because a couple good teams had bad weeks.

Edited to Add:

I use a 3 division format in each of my leagues. Each team plays divisional matchups twice. And then every other week is a unique match-up. Not all teams face each other in this format.

No complaints to date from our guys.

I have a 12 team league and use a 3 division format. It works great. You can use FBG schedule maker and pretty much pick how you want the schedule to go. I went to a 13 week regular season this year. You play each team in your division twice, and seven other teams once. If you go to a 14 week schedule, you can play each team in your division twice, and the rest once, or I suppose with a 13 week schedule you could have a doubleheader so you play each team once.I didn't really care so I went with a normal 13 week schedule.

If I may ask...how many teams make the playoffs in that 4 division setup? If there are wildcards, how does your league determine them? Points?? Record??I am just curious since it has become a consideration for my 12-teamer next year.

You could cut your double header weeks down to 1 if you went with 3 divisions.Have that one double header week be fairly early (week 1, 2 or 3) and set it up so one game is against a division foe and the other is a non division game.

12 Teams = 3 divisions of 4 teams.

6 divisional games and 8 non-divisional games.

13 week schedule with double headers in week 3

3 Division Winners make the playoffs along with next 3 best teams based on record regardless of division.

I'm leaning the way of the 4 div route and I would choose for the playoffs Each div winner + the highest top 4 teams regardless of the division to make the playoffs for a total of 8 playoff teams.

We're moving to this same setup for next year. We currently do the four divisions, but split into two conferences with one wild card from each. The past few years have been unlucky with some strong teams missing wild card spots due to conference imbalance and, on multiple occasions (this year included) having the two best teams meet in the semifinals. We're eliminating the idea of conferences altogether to get the best teams in.

We are considering moving to this 4-division setup too, but isn't there a risk that one of the four divisions will produce a sub .500 playoff team?
