Do you know who blocked for Walter Payton... (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
Just saw this. I never realized it before.

JACKIE SLATER was one of his tackles! :goodposting:

Are you kidding me? I dare you to find me a better RB/O-lineman combo in CFB history. They both turned out to be not just Hall-of-Famers, but two of the best ever at their respective positions. And the fact that they played in the SWAC Conference made it even more unfair.

Carry on.

BTW, the NFL Network is running a one hour retrospective on Walter this week called "Pure Payton." It's on now until 1am EST if anyone is still up. That was one impressive dude, on and off the field. :goodposting:

Payton was the best ever RB to play the game because of how he was on the field AND off the field. Total Class Act!

Anthony Munoz and Marcus Allen were at USC together, but I think Allen was a backup until Munoz left. Charles White was the primary beneficiary of Munoz's blocking.

Yep, two pretty damn tough combos to beat have been listed. Who was Walter Jones' RB at FSU? Dunn?

:lmao: I saw this last night. Excellent program. If they replay it again, I would recommend it to everyone. The guy was just incredible.

The NFL network also had a show on the best RBs to commemorate black history month. The clips they showed of Gayle Sayers were unbelievable. I think if his career (which only lasted 65 games or so) lasted longer, he would UNDOUBTEDLY be the best RB of all time. The guy put moves on guys that were behind him! I also didn't know he came back from a major knee injury in one year and ran for over 1K yards. back then, it was unheard of. Simply amazing RB!

I'd pick Ron Yary and OJ Simpson. Both Hall of Famers, both #1 overall picks in the NFL draft.
