Prefer the doctor downplay it so you're not scared to death for 2-3 weeks, or prefer the truth?
This. Facts, not guesses. Let me guess, I pay you for evidence based assessment.I don't want them speculating one way or the other.
You're getting biopsy results in 2-3 weeks.This. Facts, not guesses. Let me guess, I pay you for evidence based assessment.
Didn't sound like there was a speculum involved.I don't want them speculating one way or the other.
Downplay, for f**** sake that's stress I don't need when they need to biopsy it regardless.Prefer the doctor downplay it so you're not scared to death for 2-3 weeks, or prefer the truth?
Maybe it's a guy thing but I can't imagine walking out from the biopsy without asking what the doc thinks, esp one with 35 years of doing nothing but like the guy I had. When he drew blood from the mass, he knew it wasn't looking good.I'd prefer the 3rd option of simply "I need to get this checked out". I don't want to be led to believe its nothing, but I also don't want to know that its most likely cancerous until its definitive.
I agree with this but if the damn thing is gonna take 2-3 weeks that is an eternity. Probably best if the Doctor just says I'm taking a biopsy, just to rule out cancer. Telling him it looks like cancer to her isIf you can find a doc with the stones to tell you bad news, you are ahead of the game.
So I was told one Monday morning by my doc that I had acute bronchitis, "it's going around, but I want you to go to Irvine Center and have some blood tests run." Two hours later the results came in and I had two clots in my lung and about a hundred in my right leg. A few weeks later, we talked about this and he said they were very worried I'd make it when he sent me off.I agree with this but if the damn thing is gonna take 2-3 weeks that is an eternity. Probably best if the Doctor just says I'm taking a biopsy, just to rule out cancer. Telling him it looks like cancer to her isIMO, I mean I'm assuming she is neither an oncologist or a pathologist. Stay in your lane, take the culture and tell the dude she'll let him know if anything comes up.

Why? What are you going to do differently while waiting those 2-3 weeks (other than stress out more)? If she thinks it's cancerous I want to know. I always prefer more info than less.
My sister died from inoperable lung cancer. After several rounds of chemo, she complained about shoulder pain. I was in his office with her when he told her "its probably just bursitis, you need to focus on getting well". False hope is not helpful. Needless to say that was the last visit to THAT moron. Why? What are you going to do differently while waiting those 2-3 weeks (other than stress out more)?
This is where I am. It's either cancer or it's not, so nothing she tells me changes the outcome. Not unethical at all to let me have some peace of mind while I wait. They say "not knowing is the worst" -- actually this is most true when you're told essentially you probably have cancer.I agree with this but if the damn thing is gonna take 2-3 weeks that is an eternity. Yeah, hiding actual information from a patient to save their feelings is malpractice imo.My sister died from inoperable lung cancer. After several rounds of chemo, she complained about shoulder pain. A friend was diagnosed with a brain tumor & the doctor told him he had less than a month to live. He died 3 weeks later but at least he & his family had time to say goodbye & get things in order. Sure glad the doc had cajones.
I have more stories like this that I wont go into.
You underestimate my wife's Googling prowess. It's already metastasized to the lymph nodes and it's untreatable.Right, but a suspicious mole isn't typically critically terminal. Those scenarios are very different from the one presented.
We must be married to the same woman. Our one-year-old has been cupping his ear recently (he's had several ear infections) so she diagnosed him with Autism. You underestimate my wife's Googling prowess. It's already metastasized to the lymph nodes and it's untreatable.
Also on this topic, my son had three open heart surgeries when he was one. The first one, they said 95%, second one,,95%, and third one 50%. About three years later on a check up, he was doing very well, and they felt safe to tell us that when they tell you 50%, they really mean 10%. He turns 20 in a few months.Holy #### man.![]()
Need you to soothe my headWhat does she look like? This will help determine my answer.
I would be better prepared mentally when the "real" news came. I'm at the point where I understand one day I'm going to get some bad doctor news. I'm OK with that. Just tell me what's going on and let me get my mind straight about it.Why? What are you going to do differently while waiting those 2-3 weeks (other than stress out more)?
Gotta love it when people quote Robert Palmer lyrics.Need you to soothe my head
Turn my blue heart to red
Doctor, doctor give me the news
I've got a bad case of lovin' you
Start researching. I learned much more from breastcancer.org than I did from any doc. Your ahead of the game at the very least if you are told it looks suspicious. If I'm in the clear then I just come out informed. Like I said, if my doc tells me she doesn't think it's anything when indeed she really thinks it is, what else may she be downplaying down the line. Stakes are too high to deal with such a doc. Trust and honesty, esp with something like cancer. Why? What are you going to do differently while waiting those 2-3 weeks (other than stress out more)?
