Doctor violently dragged from full United flight (2 Viewers)

Dr Dao has previously worked at Hardin Memorial Hospital and owned a medical practice.

It was also revealed he had previously been given a suspended jail sentence for illegally obtaining and trafficking controlled substances by fraud and deceit.
He was also found to have in engaged in sex with a male patient and then supplied him with drugs, including Oxycontin, in exchange for sexual favors.
Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, cause I've worked in a lot of offices and I tell you people do that all the time.

Just watched the whole video...the guy is either deranged, drunk or heavily medicated.  What sane doctor or person says he has to go home..and then starts chanting "just kill me" over and over again?

After this entire scene played out, it must have been so awkward to be the crew member who took this guy's seat. Yeeesh.

So when they offer compensation or a credit voucher for a later flight, that is in addition to the new ticket cost (the later flight replacing the one you are missing), correct?

My advice to United is stick to their guns and absorb the PR hit (if they didn't do anything illegal).

People choose airlines based on price and convenience for the most part.
I think you might be underselling the impact of a video of a bloodied old man getting dragged down an aisle.

You might be right, but fares are so close these days, that I think there will be a pretty major financial impact for United.  Aside from the billion dollar stock dip we've already seen.

So far everyone I've discussed this with at work basically thinks the guy acted like a 3 year old in the cereal aisle.  I don't see UA having issues with the common folk.

United obviously handled this horribly but once the cops are there telling you to get off the plane, you're getting off the plane. Resisting is just stupid and I don't have any sympathy for the guy getting injured. I'd cooperate, then raise hell with the airline, get as much cash out them as possible, then tell everyone I know how much they suck and never fly with them again.

UA screwed up and, actually, this could have gone even worse if other people had been injured while they were trying to wrestle Dr. Feelgood out of that plane.

Everyone was on board, and four United employees showed up last minute, needing a free ride to Louisville.

Everything happened after that.  Makes story even worse.
I know the details.  Just have never seen flight attendants boot folks while on the plane.

They pull you from the gate or at the counter.  Overbooking may be common but they are in total control of how many boarding passes they print out.  I fly about a dozen times a year and have never seen anyone bumped once they have boarded.
I fly more than you. See it happen a few times a year. Never gets to the involuntary phase that Dr dao went to. People always volunteer.

After this, I'm guessing no one volunteers anymore and the price just went up.

That is just horrible planning on the airlines part.  They are in total control of how many boarding passes they issue.  Have seen them hold up oarding at the gate but never anyone out of the cabin.  I fly primarily LH, BA, and Virgin FWIW.

If the pilot would have come on and said.. " if four of you mother****ers don't get off I will fly this f***ing plane straight into the ground"...I think things would have went differently.

I believe this as much as I believe Otis's alleged online BJ run.
Don't care if you believe it or not but if I got this UAL offer it equals more than I got. Get it? Yes now you can believe it. Now that it's been spelled out for you. Understand? If they offered $800, it's more than a free round trip ticket. Glad I could help you out with your math.

Also, the round trip ticket for 1 year is the smarter offer by them since some people don't even end up using it.

Re: legal questions - I have seen what seem to be goood arguments on both sides of the "boarding" question, but there must be legal case law on this I would imagine.  Has anyone seen any specific legal precedent on this?

The UA COC defines oversold as:

Oversold Flight means a flight where there are more Passengers holding (1)valid confirmed Tickets that (2)check-in for the flight within the prescribed check-in time than there are available seats.

nothing about employees; the question is whether each of the 4 held valid confirmed tickets.
(1) Curious if employees receive "valid confirmed tickets"

(2) It's reasonable to assume that the employees did not check-in during the prescribed check-in time considering the plane was already boarded

After that passenger was bloodied being dragged out of his seat, United asked if there was a doctor onboard. Awkward

lol

sure it's been repeated

United Airlines CEO has finally apologized

"The truly horrific event that occurred on this flight has elicited many responses from all of us: outrage, anger, disappointment. I share all of those sentiments, and one above all: my deepest apologies for what happened. Like you, I continue to be disturbed by what happened on this flight and I deeply apologize to the customer forcibly removed and to all the customers aboard. No one should ever be mistreated this way.

I want you to know that we take full responsibility and we will work to make it right.

It’s never too late to do the right thing. I have committed to our customers and our employees that we are going to fix what’s broken so this never happens again. This will include a thorough review of crew movement, our policies for incentivizing volunteers in these situations, how we handle oversold situations and an examination of how we partner with airport authorities and local law enforcement. We’ll communicate the results of our review by April 30th.

I promise you we will do better.

Sincerely,

Oscar"

Mea culpa apology from Munoz:

Put him on ignore.  Join the trend.  Don't argue with idiots because they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.
One thing that is for certain, when someone puts others on ignore AND proclaims that they did, you know they go back uncheck the box and read the comments. It's the mark of the weak and stupid.
