DODGERS (1 Viewer)

Dodgers win the home opener in style, slugging 4 dingers - the power of the new thread is strong.

When Kershaw learns to pound the strike zone consistently, he is going to be sick.

Just in case anyone else was wondering:

By 1890 New Yorkers (Brooklyn was a separate city until it became a borough in 1898) routinely called anyone from Brooklyn a "trolley dodger", due to the vast network of street car lines criss-crossing the borough as people dodged trains to play on the streets. When the second Washington Park burned down early in the 1891 season, the team moved to nearby Eastern Park, which was bordered on two sides by street car tracks. That's when the team was first called the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers. That was soon shortened to Brooklyn Dodgers.

It is 10:00 and we are in the bottom of 5. :lmao:
Just goes to how painful this team is to watch. I'm sick of Loney. He's just not improving. Too bad the Dodgers turned down that trade with the Padres last year. Sure would be nice to have Adrian Gonzalez at first and Heath Bell shoring up the bullpen. The Dodgers' lack of speed also is glaring since they gave away Pierre and have decrepit Furcal leading off. Kemp is the only player on the team who can steal a base. The Dodgers need pretty much a complete makeover. I'd like to say a makeover around Ethier and Kemp, but I'm not even committed to that. I'd like to keep Ethier, and I'd be willing to give up anyone else in package deals to improve the team as a whole, including Kemp and Kershaw, each of whom I would think are the Dodgers' biggest trading chips.

These late night games kill me but it is always fun to beat the evil dodgers. D backs are looking good. M Reynolds looks much better at third then he did a year ago. If we get some good pitching we we will be hard to beat. Man I wish Webb would return healthy but I have sincere doubts. I wonder if I saw Webbs last game as a Dback opening day 2009.

Offense isn't the problem. They are scoring plenty of runs. Pitching is what is killing them. No starters are able to go deep and the bullpen has been a train-wreck so far with the exception of Broxton. They need a top tier starter to take some of the pressure off of the other starters and bullpen.

 It is bizarre to be a Dodger fan right now - I enjoy watching them hit and can't stand our pitching. When was the last time one could say that? I expected our starters to be dicey, but what's killing LA more right now is how God-awful the bullpen is. Sherrill hasn't been close to what he was last year (and since he's the only lefty in the pen, this is an even bigger problem), Monasterios can't repeat his delivery for more than 3 pitches at a time, Weaver is what he is (a veteran swing arm who can give you a decent number of mediocre innings), and the Russ and Ramon are neck and neck in the "Which Ortiz is the worst pitcher on the Dodgers?" competition. But when you have a bunch of bargain-bin retreads in the pen, it's hard to be shocked by these results. As far as fixes go, I wouldn't trade Kemp in a million years. Anyone else, including Kershaw, is fair game. Glad to see the Boys in Blue beat the Giants last night. Not looking forward to today's matchup, Lincecum vs. Haeger.

Hopefully Sherrill regains his stuff - I'd love for my Pads to take him off your hands at the trade deadline. We need another lefty in the pen for our playoff run, and you guys need some young talent in your rebuilding effort. :bye:

Jesus, If you want Sherrill, you can have him. He's been a steaming pile of s--t since getting racked in the playoffs last season.

Glad the Blue are finally getting back to the Dodger Stadium. What a putrid road trip. Wake up bats, wake up!

This is just pathetic.
I can't remember being this down on a Dodger team this early in the season, at least this down on a team that appears to have some talent. I saw where the Dodgers have the third fewest innings from starting pitchers this year. Only Washington and Pittsburgh are worse. I effing the McCourts. And nice of Colletti to start singling out Kemp in public. Yes, he hasn't been great in all facets of the game (why is he getting caught stealing so much), but what the hell is the GM doing criticizing on field play? Last I checked, that was the manager's responsibility. Perhaps Colletti should take a look at his spectacular flops and realize the money he wasted on deals like Schmidt and Jones might have come in handy when it came time to assemble a pitching staff. He can go bleep himself. And by the way, I effing the McCourts.

You guys are coming to Chase this week. The game was sold as a "premium game" for extra cash. Some fans are pist about this premium game bs. Thhis obviously is not a premium game.

Hope we kill you. :banned:

Outstanding performance by Kershaw, outdueling the hottest pitcher in the NL in Ubaldo Jimenez. Sorely needed after Haeger couldn't record an out yesterday. It's performances like today's that have me eager to see what Kershaw will be like once he finally settles down.

Don't look now, but the Blue have won three in a row!
It was really nice of the D-Backs pen to make Dodger fans feel better about ours. That was ugly last night. Second good start from Ely - glad he was able to get the win this time. Hopefully we can be finished with the Haeger experiment now - I've never been a big fan of knuckleballers and he doesn't seem like the next Niekro, Hough, or Wakefield.

Yeah, that series actually gave me a glimmer of hope that the pen was starting to simmer down. And the offense is rolling. Even Martin is finding his stroke! I'm not sure what happened to Haegar. I got to see him pitch in Spring Training against the Mariners -- The knuckleball was absolutely fluttering and he was almost unhittable -- I say almost, because he gave up two hits to some guy named "Ichiro  " in 6+ innings. Hopefully, he can figure it out and return to the pen once the Ramon Ortiz experiment ends.

A healthy Kuo and Belasario really solidifies the bullpen. They started off rough coming back from injury but have settled into their previous forms.

Kuo has awesome stuff. Hopefully, the duct tape they are using to keep his elbow in place holds for the year. And even Sherrill is starting to come around. It's also nice to see that Joe isn't running Troncoso out there every single night anymore. I was starting to think his arm might fall off by the all-star break.

I told my brother last week that the Dodgers' winning streak was about to end when Ortiz was starting. They manage to pull that one out, yet go back to starting him again and of course it doesn't work twice. Can the Dodgers send Ortiz down/cut him/shoot him now? Anything but start him.

Wow - the DBacks find new and interesting ways to lose. A two-run error in the 8th to let the Dodgers tie it followed up by a balk in the 9th to bring in the winning run. Nice to see Manny go yard.

First place

Kuroda was excellent last night, and he's been the mainstay of the staff this year.
