Does Reggie Wayne have anything left? (1 Viewer)

I know all the critics are saying hes done, but how much of last years declining numbers were because of bad QB Play? He still caught 76 balls for just under 1000 yards. PS Greg Jennings had less catches and less yards but more TDs. And most people have Jennings in the top 7-8 WRs. My guess is that if Manning was healthy last year, Wayne would have had many more catches, yards and TDs.

I know hes up there in years, but how much left does he have? With Luck at QB, does he still have a couple of productive years left in him and if so is it 1yr, 2 yrs, 3 yrs?

if I had to guess, Id say he has 1 more productive year as a top 25 WR and then he slowly fades back into top 50 and then out of the league. So 1 productive year with Luck, and 1 average WR yr.

Or am I way off and should I trade him for anything I can now? (I was offered JJ Watt in an IDP league)

I agree with almost all of your rational. Wayne was a top 30 WR with horrible QB play and Garcon also on the roster. With Garcon gone and a significant improvement at the QB position over last year, Wayne should crack (albiet, just barely) into the top 25 one more time. His stat line will likely look similar to last season's with a slight bump in yards and probably 80-95 receptions. (His YPR might actually dip a little). I see him right around 85/1k and 5-6 TDs - mainly because there simply aren't many other WR options in Indy (right now)

I think he has 2 more top 20 years.

He has been literally the most durable WR in the game the last 9 years (hasn't missed a game).

His abilties are based more on precision route running and hands than it is speed and last year, with no one to throw him the ball accurately, I believe the perception of his demise was based more on that and the simple fact that he has been such a good player that he became a victim of his own lofty expectations.

I really see it as a situation where people look at age first and honestly don't spend a lot of time actually watching the games (let's be honest; how many people can tell you that they honestly sat and watched Colts games last year?). And so they connect the dots and its easy to say "he's done". But I see it as a situation that is more like Steve Smith in Carolina when siilar things were said of him. The reality is, you can only do so much on a terrible team as a WR. You can't trhow the ball accurately and catch it.

Some people will say that it seemed like there was no problem getting Garcon the ball but, again, if you actually stomached watching the games, you would see that the Colts QBs couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and that is what Wayne's game is predicated on (being in a spot..actually running a route). Its much easier for the QB to just throw it up down field and let a guy run under it..or come back and get it.

The situation should be much improved this year and I think Luck can learn a lot from a guy like Wayne that will relay over to him some of the things that made his situation with Manning work so well so I see both of them benefiting from it.

I'm very supportive of your overall perspective on Wayne. Reminds me of Steve Smith (CAR) when people wrote him off before last season, when it was clear that he still had game, but was just coming off a season (or multiple in Smith's case) with bad QB play. That said, you should realize how terrible your comparison to Greg Jennings is. Jennings missed 3 full games (plus the bulk of a 4th game) due to injury last year. So it's a bit silly to compare stats from one player who played 16 games, another who played 12 1/4 games. On a per game basis, Jennings was far more productive.

I have him at 80 1061 6 good for #23 this year, could easily draft him 5/6 spots higher because of dependability and if he and Luck seem to gel early on. I believe in Luck and with Wayne being the main wr in what is likely a te heavy offense, I believe he will grab a lot of catches. His ypr held steady last year with terrible qb play. I trust him for this year anyway.
