Nobody in the country will be talking about this come like, November of this year. Americans are super dumb and have zero attention span. You are kidding yourself if you think people will hold onto this for a year and a half.
This. Most people where I work aren't even following it now let along caring about 2022 and most that are don't seem to care as long as American lives are not lost. It's different for those of us engaged in politics but I think this will have little or no impact in the mid-term elections. I'm discounting the die-hard partisans who will never change their political "side".

Biden royally messing up a major foreign policy/military task like this will definitely effect how people view him forever.  He will be viewed as weak and incompetent.  Yes, that absolutely will carry into the election.  Now if that has a big enough impact to change the election outcome is the only question.  But this will hurt him.

Nixon withdrew US forces from Vietnam, which ultimately had the same consequences as our withdrawal from Afghanistan. While Nixon may be viewed by historians as being many things, I have never seen him ever characterized as being weak and incompetent because of how he handled our exit from Vietnam. Biden will ultimately viewed in the same light down the road.

As a liar and a crook?

As a liar and a crook?

Reading is fundamental!

I was talking about how Nixon is viewed by historians for his withdrawal of U.S. forces from Vietnam. Not one of them has ever said that he was a liar and a crook because of that.

The fall was a part of the Vietnam debacle.

And that definitely overshadowed the 1976 election and was a big factor in the voters' choices.

Feel free to argue/pontificate/'prove it' otherwise.

I know you can't leave a differing opinion alone.
No it’s a legitimate opinion. I can’t prove otherwise because when you claim it “overshadowed”, who knows? Maybe it did. I can only tell you it wasn’t an issue that came up in the discussions at the time, but that in itself doesn’t make you wrong.

Normally the public doesn’t give a damn about foreign policy when it comes to voting. I certainly think they should though.

I knew it

This is a non issue

Direct Headline: Up to 15,000 Americans remain in Afghanistan after Taliban takeover

As many as 15,000 Americans remain in Afghanistan following the Taliban's takeover of the county, Biden administration officials told U.S. Senate staffers Tuesday, according to two aides.

Direct Headline: Biden must rescue thousands of U.S. citizens trapped in Afghanistan

Several congressional staffers told me that American citizens in Kabul have been flooding their office’s phone lines, complaining that after being told on Sunday by the State Department to shelter in place and not to come to the embassy or the airport, they have not received any further information and are scared for their lives.

Direct Headline: Obama Freed The Taliban Leader Who Engineered Kabul Takeover

If a single American soldier dies or is taken hostage and/or a single American citizen is killed by Taliban forces and/or is taken hostage, what would you say then? If a woman who is an American citizen is gang raped by Taliban forces and that becomes public, what would you say then? If an American family that can't get out is there with a child who is an American citizen, and that child is harmed in any way by Taliban forces or due to the fighting, what would you say then?

The State Department told them to evacuate and also to bunker down. If the State Department says stay there, then no one follows up and helps those American citizens and that's documented and Taliban forces go door to door, as they clearly have been and capture, take hostage, rape, torture, drag for public display and execute an American citizen or an entire family comprised of American citizens, what would you say then?

Can you guarantee the RANK AND FILE TALIBAN forces on the ground are going to behave in a civil manner to American citizens? Can you guarantee that even if the leaders of the current Taliban forces tells their armed forces to not harm American citizens that those orders will be followed?

Khairullah Khairkhwa currently has tactical command of the Taliban forces on the ground. He was part of the "Taliban Five" that Obama released in a prisoner exchange in 2014.  Biden was part of that administration. Do you think that's going to look good if/when the Taliban kills an American citizen?

It's very likely, tragically, an American citizen somewhere over there has already been killed. This has devolved into a math problem and a logistics problem, not just a political problem. Thousands of American troops need a logistical structure to support them. The ratio is classically seen as 10-1 in any modern military. That means for every single person designated specifically as a combatant, he needs 10 other personnel to logistically support him. You need doctors, mechanics, engineers, cooks, drivers, pilots and on and on and on.  The longer those US troops need to be there, the more they need logistics to support them. How does it look when you leave and then have to go back, hat in hand, and face the weapons you were ordered to leave behind? To take back your own bases and airfields that you were ordered to leave behind?

What happens if US weapons captured by the Taliban are sold on the black market and used to attack other Western nations? This leads back to Operation Fast And Furious, where Obama/Biden/Holder essentially gave guns to the Sinaloa Cartel.  American law enforcement were killed with some of those guns. There's actual history with Biden and weapons killing Americans already. You think that issue combined with this one is going to help?

How does all that play out in the rabid shock marketing click bait induced MSM and Big Social Media?

Feel free to address any of this.

The answer is simple for me...nobody will care in a bit.  It's a non issue in a country where most people felt we should have never been there in the first place.

Willing to wager the majority of people complaining couldn't find Afghanistan on a map.

I think the election is just too far away for America's short attention spans.  The election is 3 years away.  We're still not 3 years from the US withdrawal of Syria where we completely betrayed our Kurdish allies and left them to be slaughtered and everyone has already completely forgotten about that.  People stopped caring about that within the first 3 months, much less 3 years.

3 years from now Afghanistan will just be some country that we're not pouring trillions of dollars into anymore.
