Godspeed Don

Don Rickles, one of the most legendary, iconic and influential comedians in history, has died.

We've learned Don died Thursday morning of kidney failure at his home in Los Angeles.  His wife Barbara was by his side.

The most unprecendented comic of all time. Studied the funny my whole life and still can't figure out why he was so awfully wonderful. *drops pants, fires rocket* RIP -

Rickles to Sinatra at Patsy's:Come to my table so I can impress my girl.

Sinatra (later): Hi Don, how...

Rickles: Please, Frank, I'm eating.

More on Rickles and Sinatra, an anecdote about their first encounter:

One of Rickles’s most famous insults was also the one that initially boosted his career. In 1957, Frank Sinatra walked into a Los Angeles nightclub where Rickles was performing. “Make yourself at home, Frank — hit somebody,” Rickles snarked, referencing the performer’s known penchant for violence.

Instead of being offended, Sinatra became one of Rickles’s best friends, and Rickles’s reputation as a master of the insult was born.

Former client of mine (chick singer in Eddie & the Cruisers, Helen Schneider) opened for him on a few tours and just adored him.

I will miss all those performers of that gen (Rivers, Reynolds, Rickles) who just had to go out there night after night and give & get the love their whole lives no matter what.

saw him in vegas some years back.  I was in tears for the entire show.  He ripped on everybody within 10 rows of the stage.

dude was ####### hilarious as they come.  RIP

He and Bob Newhart were very close friends.  Traveled and hung out extensively with their wives.

Bob's lost his running buddy.
For over fifty years they were close.

They had no jealousy, or resentment or competition, just a lot of warmth and support. Rickles once said that he could relax around Newhart in a way he never could around Sinatra.

That's awesome.

Watched Rickles videos all night long on YouTube and couldn't stop belly laughing. One of my favorites is this compilation of him performing at different roasts.

Rickles roast compilation

14:50 mark giving it to Martin about his hometown of Steubenville, OH  :lmao:

I am at a lost for one he did not outlast.  Seems like they are all gone now.
