Donald Brown vs Joseph Addai (1 Viewer)

Team ROFLCOPTERS

I am very curious about the situation. Without seeing how this year unfolds I'm curious about what people think of this situation in the future. We know that Joseph will be a pending FA. Is Indy the type of team that will bring him back with a young horse in the stable knowing that Wayne wants a raise and they still need to work something out with Manning.

I drafted Brown in the 7th round last year. In my main league we can have one keeper after the 5th roundat the expense of his spot originaly drafted. For various reasons I don't have any other keeper options. I am torn knowing that Brown will probably be drafted after the 7th round in my 12 team league but I really value him for the year after. He could turn out to be damn good value for a 7th rounder in 2011. Do I risk attempting to draft him later or do I lock him up?

Some of this is probably best served on another forum but I mainly wanted to get an idea of where they stand this year and next? Is there a chance Brown unseats JA? Where is a good round to target this type of player?

If you think you can get him in the 8th round or later, then drop him and re-draft him at that later round. Then you can keep him the following year at the later cost.

However, if you don't think you can get him any later than 7th, I would not risk it.

Indy is known to let the RB walk away in free agency. In Edge's case, he wanted to get that huge payday. If Addai wants to come back at a reasonable cost, perhaps they'll do it.

A lot depends upon Brown progressing as a pro. Everyone knows he needs to work on his pass protection. If the Colts have to decide between keeping Peyton upright or seeing what Brown has to offer, Peyton wins every time. Brown has to show plenty of improvement in practice before we get a chance to see it on the field.

I absolutely think the Colts would like to keep Addai around past the next season (which I think will be another 70/30 split in favor of Addai). It's really gonna come down to how much he wants; which in turn depends on how productive of a year he has in 2010.

My prediction, he has a standard year for him, 1000-1100 yards rushing, another 200 receiving and 8 TD's. Nothing big, nothing minor, and it'll come down to Addai and his agent. If he can get more elsewhere, he'll bounce. I'd say he will and the Colts will platoon Brown, Hart, and another RB drafted in 2011 draft in the 2nd/3rd round.

June 6 Update:

"Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell said RB Donald Brown has shown signs of improvement this offseason, according to CBSSports.com. Caldwell said Brown looks more comfortable on the field. "Last year, he was a pretty quick study, so you can imagine that he's taken another step forward. He's much more comfortable," Caldwell said. "
