Donald Brown (1 Viewer)

Anything to see here? Bloom said that he things Brown is this year's Jamaal Charles. Why?
Brown is explosive, and may serve well as a COP to Addai. But at least for this year, Addai is the starter, and the better RB. Week 1 Brown didn't touch the ball once. Week 2 when they committed to the run he still had fewer carries and a lower YPC than Addai. Addai is the better blocker and receiver, and is more trusted by Manning. But Brown is improving from a dreadful rookie campaign, and likely will be the starter when Addai leaves via FA, assuming the Colts don't resign him, as they traditionally let their RBs walk.

Indy needs to be sure that Brown is up to the task if/when they let Addai walk. Brown should see quite a bit more action this year to be sure he's able to gel with the offense, block effectively in pass protection, endure a higher workload, and is at least as effective as Addai (if not more so). Last season Brown showed flashes but was dinged up most of the season, and wasn't very good in pass protection. Indy has to know for sure what they have in Brown before the end of the season.Fortunately for Indy, Addai and Brown both looked really good the other night. However, the Giants invited Indy to run the ball rather than pass, and the Colts obliged with a ton of RB carries. That won't happen every week. I'm not sure how this will play out for the rest of the season, but I'm confident that Brown's workload will increase; and if either of them suffers an injury the other will become a great fantasy option. Until then, I'm afraid that each will cut into the other's reps, preventing either from being more than a RB2. Somewhat similar to the Dominic Rhodes/Joseph Addai situation from a few years ago when Rhodes was the "starter", but Addai gained an increasing portion of the workload as the season wore on.As far as which one is better right now, Addai has looked good so far (and his pass protection has been better than Brown's in the past) but 30 carries on the season at 4.5 YPC isn't significantly different from Brown's 16 carries at 4.3 YPC. It will be interesting to see how Brown develops and which of these two has the better stats at year's end.
