Door to Door Salesman at Apt. (1 Viewer)

So I am moving to Washington DC in about a month. I just recently moved out of my house and am living with my girlfriend of 2.5 years in a fairly nice apartment. With beer in hand for the first week of preseason football, I heard some knocking next door. A few minutes later, there was some knocking at our door. My girlfriend walked over and saw that it was a salesman so she didn't open the door. This was around 8:15pm. Then he knocked again and said "I only need a minute of your time." He had to of known that someone was home because I had the T.V. volume turned up. A little frustrated, I swung open the door. Two slimy looking guys, one with his sunglasses on, stood there with some literature and a donation jar and started to pitch me on buying some crap out of a catalog that would be used for charity. I was pissed and obviously didn't give them anything. I asked them if the apartment complex gave them permission to solicit so late and they said yes. I looked online at found that it is illegal to solicit past 8pm in my county. I guess what I am more upset about is someone like that continuing to knock on the door. It made my feel like single women could be vulnerable in situations like these. What would stop a rapist from doing this exact thing. I am thinking about complaining to the apartment complex, but again I only have a month here so I don't know if its worth the energy. Apparently there is a frozen meat company that comes around frequently as well as annoys a lot of the residents. Has anyone else ever experienced something like this?

Since when do door-to-door salespeople respect no soliciting signs or orders?

Large apartment complexes are a frequent target as they can cover many doors in relatively few steps.

Another one that came often were solicitors selling coupons for a local restaurant - no discounts, as they were selling $10 coupons for exactly $10. Reading more into them it was a separate company contracted by them and the solicitors pocket all the money, and the restaurant is doing this as a way to try to attract more diners. But I decided right there I would never eat there if they are using that tactic.

Open the door...throat punch solicitor...return to beer and preseason football. Not difficult really.

I have a rule that I avoid any business that tries to sell me something. Obviously tough to avoid, but I do my best.

"One minute of my time in exchange for a minute of me punching you in the face. Deal?"
I know right. Who does he think he going to give him money like that? I think Monday I'm going to file a complaint, at the very least for soliciting 15 minutes past their window.

We seem to get that too with random coupons wedged around door handles. Then they fall and are scattered throughout the hallway.

I don't think rapist would be trying to pass out coupons in this situation. I may be missing your point though.

You think single women would feel comfortable opening the door to random male strangers they don't know at night? Of course not.

A woman would be stupid to answer the door under this circumstance. You were stupid for doing so as well.

You are right. Just annoyed with that ####### at the time.

Done door to door. No Soliciting signs are like catnip. I can't tell you how many times I made sales at doors with that on it. Anyway those guys are most likely total commission pay. So yeah if they are finishing up a property they likely go late. If I don't know the person knocking I never answer. The guys I know weren't a danger they were just trying to make a buck.

What we sold was actually a decent deal if you uaed it. You pre-bought various services at a discounted rate for your car. Oil change, tire rotation, etc. You could use them at any of their service centers nationwide but there was one nearby whose number and address were in the booklet.

We get the following:

1. Magazine Sales

2. Kirby Salemen

3. Schwan's Guy

4. Furniture Guy

5. Lawn Guy

6. Termite and Pest Control Guy

7. Meat Guy (yes really)

8. Coupon Guy

9. Windows Guy

10. I was working in the neighborhood

It has become such a nuisance that my HOA has started to call the police. We have no solicitation signs when you come into the neighborhood, but these guys just ignore them. I think that door to door sales should be illegal.

About a year ago I had this guy knock on my door.

My response:

" I'm a vegan. Sorry."

This is my go to counter nowadays. I am the opposite of whatever crap they are selling.
