Double Oven Ranges (1 Viewer)

Does anyone have a range with a double oven?

I have been thinking about getting a new range ($1,300 from Home Depot), and was interested in one with a double oven. I have heard varying reviews of these ranges, with some loving them to death and some saying the ovens are too small, and getting things out of the bottom oven is a PITA.

One option I've heard is getting a regular range, and then getting a microwave that also works as an oven

I don't have room in a wall for a second oven, so if I want two I need to go one of these two ways.

As usual, I need to go to FFA for info, so what are your thoughts?

TIA

We have a SS double oven propane range with 6 burners and griddle and it's the focal point of our kitchen. Not double decker like you seem to be talking about but we love it.

We've had an electric one for almost 4 years and my wife loves it. Great for holidays when you need to cook multiple things at different temperatures, and when I want to heat up something small the top (smaller) oven preheats a lot faster than if it were one giant oven. Haven't had any complaints about the sizes of them or having to remove things from the bottom oven. Yes the bottom one is a little lower than "usual" but it's not a big deal to get things in/out of it.

Edited to add: My mother in law had a double and accidentally caught fire to her kitchen. Insurance replaced her range with a single oven. We now host more of the family and holiday dinners than we used to because she hates having to go back to cooking a big spread with the single oven.

Is yours an extra wide version that has the two ovens side by side? Is one a smaller width?

I'd love to do this, but my kitchen is too small to fit something like this. I can slide a 30" in the existing space, no problem.

Mine will be gas, but that shouldn't be much different. Have you had a problem with doing something like a turkey or some type of roast in the bottom oven?

Yes it's 48" total with a smaller second oven. Besides space and higher cost other things cost more too because you need a 48" hood, hood surround, backsplash, etc.

We have an electric double oven...top/bottom config like the one you linked. GE brand. Had it for ~3 years now, and absolutely love it. We use the smaller oven for 90% of our cooking. Fits pizzas, casseroles, etc. perfectly. Takes less energy to heat it up. We really only use the bottom oven when we're cooking something bigger (which is very rare), and for holidays. Thanksgiving is the perfect example because you can roast your turkey while cooking sides in the top oven. The bottom oven can fit at least a 17+ lb turkey easily.

The ONLY drawback I see is that you lose the "pot storage" some ovens had in the bottom, but that's what cabinets are for IMO.

We have a gas double oven stacked and it is great. Cooked a 22 lb turkey in it for Thanksgiving no problem. The bottom is also a convection oven. The smaller top oven is also great as it preheats quickly.

We converted out a single electric oven to the gas double shortly after we bought our current house.

My current range has it's broiler under the oven (which I haven't used in 5.5+ years in the house), so I won't miss that!

My cooking expert mother (former Home Ec. teacher) says basting something in the bottom oven is hard. I wonder how much of that is based on her being 70+. ;)

Hmmmm....
