How many states have you been to? Any all 50 folks? (1 Viewer)

I'm actually pretty convinced that I could find at least one place in each state that I could happily live
Absolutely
Name a state, I can name a cool place to live
Iowa, MS, and Kansas are rough imo.
We enjoyed Wamego but the only thing cool about it was a low cost of living and the OZ museum. Lawrence and manhattan are your typical college towns if you’re into that.
Depends what you mean. To me, “college town” = campus, many bars, plus a couple decent eateries that similarly sized small towns wouldn’t otherwise warrant.
I guess Lawrence is a bit more than that but not much. I grew up with Ann Arbor being my idea of a college town, so I might be a bit jaded.
I've spent time in 4 college towns, and they're fairly similar. My ranking:

State College, PA
Athens, GA
Chapel Hill
Ann Arbor

State College was clearly the worst, though the other 3 are fairly similar, squarely in the "meh" range of places to visit.
I lived in State College for fifteen years, both as a student, and as a professional. I loved it, and I wish I could go back.
If you liked it that much, you should check out the others I mentioned.

Des Moines is actually a cool little city. Nice little art scene. And Ames is also a cool little college town.
Gulf coast of Mississippi is pretty rad
Kansas is rough though
I stopped in Ames on my drive moving from Austin to the Cities. It was during the summer, so most of the student population was gone. But I still hit up the little drag with all the college bars and had a few beers. When it hit closing time, I could not for the life of me get a cab and my phone was dying. So I walked about 2-3 miles back to my hotel. That was ... interesting.

I have spent meaningful time in 23 states, not including drive throughs or airport connections:
  1. AZ
  2. CA
  3. CO
  4. DC
  5. FL
  6. GA
  7. HI
  8. IL
  9. LA
  10. MA
  11. MD
  12. MO
  13. NC
  14. NJ
  15. NM
  16. NV
  17. NY
  18. OH
  19. SC
  20. TN
  21. TX
  22. VA
  23. WA
I would love to visit them all in my lifetime.

To add - Airports absolutely count. It's set foot in the state.
The OP clearly says "airports don't count". And I agree, that it should not count. For we may as well count flying over a state if that's the case
Setting foot on the ground is very different than flying over. That’s “gulf is not the ocean” stuff. But if that’s the definition, carry on and I’ll bow out. 👍

Do you actually set foot on the ground if you land in an airport and just change planes in the airport? Semantics, I know

If you poop there or pay sales tax there it counts, imo.

Oh haha I hear ya, just I remember distinctly being in Pensacola with my guy Kramer, who was from Wyoming and like "wow first time seeing the ocean" and had to tell him "Its not"
I would 100% consider the gulf the ocean

Wait. People think the Gulf isn't the ocean?
To be honest I never really thought of it either way. With much of it surrounded by land, my first thought would have been not an ociean, but in no way could I articulate what it would be considered. I guess a sea would have been the best option?

So I googled and this is what it said: The Gulf is a part of the Atlantic Ocean and is considered an ocean basin and marginal sea

Maybe this is me just being a Bi-Coastal snob lol. When I go into the real ocean, I expect to be able to surf/boogie board.

You come down to NoVa a lot, right? I’m surprised you haven’t been to WV. Head out to Harper’s Ferry next time you are in the area.
