Draft Day Controversy (1 Viewer)

It was really dumb of you to pick the wrong Steve Smith (you should've been paying attention) but the Commish should be stuck with Steve Smith (NYG) as his 6th round pick for being a conniving ########.

I had this happen in two different leagues.........everyone got a huge laugh out of it.

Everyone knew who wanted who, so there was no problem.

OP here with the Update.I just got notification that a transaction was processed through CBS switching the Panther Smith to my team.A couple of fellow league mates called me this morning to tell me they supported my side of the argument and they thought I was getting screwed. Maybe nobody spoke up when this happened during the draft because they were as shocked as I was that the commissioner was taking the hard line stance and not acknowledging that a mistake was made and correcting it on the spot.
good deal. Hopefully there is no thoughts in the future making this a real money league with this guy as commish (an offer I would politely decline if it were to happen)

Cool tha is worked out for you. Maybe the commish was trying to teacj you a lesson. More likely he was trying to pull a fast one and the rest of the league had your back.

Either way glad it is resolved and I bet next year you won't make the same mistake

My local league held our draft party Sunday. It’s a 12 team league, 2 player keeper, $25 entry fee, group of old friends. The league is run at CBS and we use the Draft Kit they provide shown here:

http://www.cbssportsstore.com/product/inde...oductId=3687175

The Draft Kit comes with preprinted labels with the player’s name, position and team and you stick the player label on the big draft board when you make your pick.

We’re in Round 3 when Steve Smith is selected and placed on the draft board. We get to Round 6 and the league member next to pick goes to the draft board with the intent to take the Steve Smith of the Giants and notices the Panther’s Steve Smith’s pre-printed label is still available…the Giant’s Steve Smith’s label had been placed on the draft board in Round 3.

What's the Shark Pool opinion? Should the person who selected Steve Smith in the Round 3 get the Panther Steve Smith (as was his intent) for his team or should he have to keep the Giant’s Steve Smith as his Round 3 pick and the person picking Steve Smith in Round 6 gets to keep Panther Steve Smith? Note: There is no League Rule that covers these circumstances.
Honestly it depends on the league. League of friends, give him the right steve smith. Money league, give him what he picked. His bad.I think the call really has to go to the second guy.
Well, I agree sort of. Friends league, 1st guy gets CAR Steve Smith. Low money league with friends 1st guy gets CAR Steve Smith. Big $$$ l3ague, 1st guy gets NYG Steve Smith. In big $$ leagues, you must pay attention to detail because they hold DRAFTS. In "friends" and low $$ leagues they hod DRAFT PARTIES.

I am more shocked that this was not corrected on the spot. It sounds like the error was pointed out and everyone was amongst friends. Simply a bad call by the commish, but it sounds like he got it right in the long run.

:moneybag: But you still have DB for a commish.

You make the pick you live and die with the pick. People need to pay attention. This is Fantasy Football and some of us do this for supplemental income.
Have you considered collecting & recycling aluminum cans instead? I hear the competition can be brutal, should be right up your alley.

Thanks for the responses. I’m the guy who picked Smith in the 3rd but put up the wrong sticker. The league’s commissioner is the guy who went for the Giant’s Smith in the 6th, got the Panther’s Smith and won’t give him up. As pointed out by several of you there is practically no money on the line and no friendships are going to be lost over it. Everybody had a good laugh at my expense yesterday. I sent an email to the commish this morning pointing out the fact I was obviously picking the Carolina Steve Smith and the mistake should be corrected….haven’t heard back from him yet.
Gee...never would have guessed that....

Not sure where you're headed with this, Hoss. I take it easy during the winter months and every bit of purse money is counted on. $25 or $2500 it all adds up.

After two games:

NYG Steve Smith - 16 catches, 214 yards, 1 touchdown

CAR Steve Smith - 11 catches, 152 yards, 0 touchdowns

Looks like you should have left it the way it was.

Especially if you play in a league that has a 2-game season.
I'm pretty sure he was just trying to "give people a smile" with a touch of irony here. :D
I thought he was trying to let people know that he did not read the previous post. But your explanation works too.

I once went undefeated in one of those :excited: ...... but, I lost in the playoffs. I agree with most everyone else, your Commish is a DB for even trying that.

:goodposting: I (the guy who drafted NY S.Smith by mistake) had a horrible season and failed to make the playoffs. The commissioner (the guy who tried to take CAR S.Smith in the 6th round) lost yesterday in the semi-finals.All in all I don't think this draft day f up impacted either one of our seasons significantly. The right thing was done, everyone in the league will rib me unmercifully at next year's draft and I will take my time with every pick so as not to make a mistake like this ever again.

Had draft last weekend and Car Steve Smith went a round or so before I took NYG Steve Smith.

I've had this thread in mind ever since.

This thread was not about trades but it is a very good example of why trades are not vetoed unless there is reason to believe collusion is involved. The player x is more valuable than player Y argument simply is not enough. Prediciting who will be better or worse is hit and miss at best.

In our draft last year a guy took Peterson Chi with the 1st, another player went on to take Peterson Min a couple of picks later. When we found out we reset the draft. Of course hes gonna hear about it this draft and everyone after that.

That being I've seen Steve smith NYG ranked #69 on draft lists, so its not far fetched to think the commish drafted the NYG or would be okay with keeping him.

Edit: OH what the hell this thread is hella old LOL
