Draft Hancuffed player first? (1 Viewer)

I am toying with the idea of drafting a hancuffed player first. This of course would only apply to Auction drafts and probably only to the RB position. My theory is this: if you draft the hancuff player first you should get him on the cheap as no one is going to want to put up money early in the draft on a backup player, secondly you may end up devaluing the starter becasue his hancuffed player is taken.

Even if you don't end up getting the starter he still may be valubale to the team that did as trade bait. I ended up getting Edgerin games last year and regreted not getting rhodes even though james was mostly healthy last year. The team that won got Holmes and Johnson.

I have noticed that you can often sneek a decient player under the radar early in acution drafts, so it may be more valuable to pick starter (midrange TE or Kicker) early instead.

Too bad there are not may auction draft articles on footballguys.

Any thoughts? Am I crazy or is it worth a shot.

In the auction league I am in if you draft the Handcuff first the guys will run you up when you start bidding on the Main guy.

If you stick close to your budget and don't do anything to crazy its a good idea.

I have found that running up the price is generally a very BAD idea. Of cource I can't speak for the players in your league, but I did that one time and got stuck over paying for a player. Never again, only hurting myself. if other players want to over pay then as far as I am conserend let them. if getting the handcuffed player first actually increases the cost of the starter then even better. let them over pay and then see if you can deal off the handcuff player to them, if not hold on for injury then use him or trade at a higher price. or just drop him, it's not like you payed much for him to start with.

Interesting concept but dangerous. Depending on when the actual guy you want comes up for bid, you may not have a choice and have to pay a lot. Besides, in my league, people will know what you're trying to do. To me it's obvious. If it works, more power to you. My auction is August 30th, if yours is before mine, let me know how that goes.

Best of Luck

depends on who the handcuff/lead dog is.

Michael Turner / Norwood / Maroney types, I'd go for it. Even if you don't get the lead dog, your handcuff is worth something. I'd avoid handcuffs that only make sense if you get the lead back.
