Draft Order Determination (1 Viewer)

A buddy and I were discussing this last night while watching the game. For a redraft, we do the order randomly, but usually just do something boring like picking numbers out of a hat to determine who picks where. We were trying to come up with something a little more interesting, such as: chugging contest. first man done gets first crack at where he wants to pick.

So, my question is, what are some other ideas that your leagues do (or you would like to do) to decide who picks where.

One time me and some guys formed a league of guys from the weekly poker night...so we played a game of poker and winner got to pick his position, then 2nd, and so on...

hahaha...would be so unfair in our league, one of our guys is a professional, in WSOP and such, but in any event, a rock paper scissor tourney is always fun, randomly seeded

lmao, NICE, you guys actually play with him, does he just take your money, lol...

I don't remember if it was on this board or that other one I look at sometimes, but someone last year suggested a drunken sack race. Everyone has to drink a 12 pack or something and then have a sack race across the park. If you don't get arrested, it sounds like an interesting way to do it. LOL!

We do an NBA ping-pong ball style draft. Worst team from prior season gets 12 balls while winner gets one ball. This years last place guy picked 6th. Winner of league picked 5th.

We did a lottery style last year. Drunken sack races and RPS tourneys sound good. Keep em comin

This is what we do in the two leagues I am commish. I like the fact that if you win, you don't have to necessarily pick last. In fact, the one year I won, my name came out first and the last place guy's name came out last.

We do a lottery with a twist. Not as fun a drinking contest but it works for us. The bottom six teams are in a lottery. The worst team gets one ball and the 6th worst team gets 6 balls. Our theory is that this encourages teams to keep trying until the end of the regular season. So if you know you are in the playoffs you still want to try so you get more chances at the first over all pick. The team that make the playoffs get their picks based on the placing at the end of playoffs.

We randomly select sealed envelopes. Whoever finds the #1 in their envelope then gets to pick their draft slot. The guy with #2 then picks his draft slot, so on, and so forth. Surprisingly there were several people who passed up the middle slots to drop to 11th and 12th as they perceived better value there. It definitely adds more flavor than simply going with what number you drew.

The non-playoff teams play (total points over weeks 14-16) for the right to select their draft position next season. The non-playoff team with the highest total points in the playoffs gets first choice of draft position, second highest gets 2nd choice and so on. The playoff teams then just fall in at the end in reverse order of playoff finish -- this year's champion gets the last choice of draft spot in next year's draft.
