Draft Strategy for Dynasty Startups (1 Viewer)

I didn't see this thread had gotten bumped, I'll add my breakdown of my FBG team...

1.09 Charles. I traded the 1.11 and the 4.02 for the 1.09 and 4.02 to get charles, and I was happy to do so. He was 3rd on my board, and I was shocked he lasted so long.

2.02 Mendy. DMC is whom I wanted, but he dropped the pick before me. Totally happy to take mendy tho. MJD was my only other option, but injury risk mand me lean mendy

3.11 Wayne. Don't love this pick, in retrospect. Wayne is going further than that in other leagues I've seen. I think I could have snagged him at 4.09. On the other hand, WR's were unusually picked over at this point, and I wanted a WR that I knew would be able to get WR production in year 1 to anchor my squad.

4.09 Colston. Another pick I don't love. had surgery like right after I picked him. If I had it to do over I'd probably take Wes or steve johnson here.

5.08 Peyton Manning (traded 6.02/11.11 for 5.08/12.05) Last qb of his tier, so I thought I had to get him. Fits into my general philosophy of trying to pick the last guy of a tier, not the first.

5.11 DWill. I thought was great value at the time. Now that he's resigned in Carolina, I don't love it, but still, great value. Love my Rb1-3

7.11 Couldn't believe Witten was here. Completely validates my wait on QB/Te's strat, when I can get elite QB's in the 5th and TE's at the end of the 7th. Admittedly, in most drafts there won't be a TE of witten's ilk left at that point.

8.02 Seattle mike. Didn't love this pick, but the WR's were so picked over, I was desperate. Below average WR3, but to be expected when I spend 2 picks in top 7 on qb/te. HOWEVER, when Kenny Britt had a run in with the law, I traded Mike+Dixon for Britt+Deji. and I LOVE brit as my WR 3, given the strength of the rest of the team.

9.11 Steve smith. Had most upside at that point

10.02 Starks

12.02 Jennings

12.05 Moeaki

13.11 Branch

14.02 Gabbert

15.11 Jerrigan

16.02 Mallet

17.11 Garrard

18.02 Harper

19.11 Dixon (now Deji)

20.02 Housler

21.11 KC D

22.02 Skelton ( now beck)

23.11 Mason

24.02 Ajirotutu

25.11 fantuz

26.02 Saints D

27.11 Dickerson

28.02 Brown (k)

Taking manning meant I had to take more qb's than I normally like to take, young ones to develop, and gerrard to fill in ( and cut once gabbert takes the starting job). But it's a small price to pay for an elite QB. My team is older than I normally like, but id definitely built to win now.

I tried the full on tank year one strategy while playing for year two as opposed to "the future".

Traded round 1 pick for extra 2/3 picks.

2RB/2WR/1RB-WR/1R-W-T/TE/DST

0.5 ppr

6 pts all TDs

Larry Fitzgerald

Mike Williams (TB)

Percy Harvin

Dwayne Bowe

Sam Bradford

Matt Ryan

Jermaine Gresham

That was my team through 5 rounds.

Rob Gronkowski

Brandon Jacobs

Cam Newton

Steve Smith - this was my dumb(est) pick. By far. Got caught up in "value" and deviated from the plan. Should have gone young RB here.

Philadelphia Eagles

Detroit Lions

Tashard Choice

Allen Bradford

Brandon Tate

Mike Goodson

So as far as I see, I still lack a starting RB. A couple times I had a guy queued up and then he went right ahead of me. Could have had Jacobs/Tolbert/Addai had I played my cards better and would then view myself as competitive right now. As is, I think I'll be hard pressed not to have #1 overall next year for a true RB1 and then cobble together RB2 production from there.

Robert Bobson, hey haven't talked to you in a while but I wanted to let you know I really like how your team turned out. It looks like your strategy worked out great for you so ride the team and try not to make too many changes (unless your gut tells you to). I really think you have a contender for a long time. Sorry I wasn't around for a while and got booted from the league but nothing I could do about it being in jail for a DUI. Especially sucks since I loved my team and was the commissioner but nothing I could do to contact anyone. They didn't even give me a phone call when I got there and I didn't really have FF on my mind until after a while of being in there. Wish I could have held my spot somehow but it is what it is.

Instinctive, you also have a very nice team that could surprise in the first season even though you didn't draft that way.

Well, Charles really fell into my lap. I had intended to take a stud WR at 1.11 (if the right one was still there) but charles kept falling and falling, and ending up with mendy/charles as your anchors is dream. Yeah, I am sorry things went down the way they did with you and the league, I would have liked to have competed with you. I sent you a PM, dunno if you got it. I'm just glad you're okay, a lot of us were legit worried about you. Sounds like you've had a ####ty summer, hope things get better soon!

Robert,All good brother. Things are definitely better now. 1000 times better!
