Draft strategy help (1 Viewer)

My league is kind of a hybrid keeper/dynasty league. .5ppr, 10-man ESPN league.

Through trades I have 1.01, 1.06, and 1.07.

My keepers will be:

QB - J. Daniels
QB - Mahomes (I'm actively trying to trade him)
RB - J. Mixon
WR - M. Evans
WR - K. Coleman
WR - Q. Johnston
TE - K. Pitts

We do an auction draft for rookies which does take one of your draft picks as it is part of the auction process. Rookies chosen during the auction process receive either a 2 or a 3 year contract - decided by the owner.

I will not be outbid for A. Jeanty so assume he will be on my roster and use my 1.07 pick.

The available veteran players of note are:

RB - S. Barkley
RB - C. McCaffrey
RB - J. Jacobs
WR - J. Chase
WR - T. Higgins
WR - P. Nacua

My question is, do I take Chase with 1.01 and then wait for the next best available player at 1.06 or select another rookie like O. Hampton or Q. Judkins?

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Chase is the first pick. Don't complicate things
Thanks for the reply. I am definitely taking Chase at 1.01. My question was about my next 1st round pick. Do I use it on another rookie like Hampton or Judkins (although probably not Judkins now that he is facing a domestic battery charge) or do I use it on the best available player?

Always use it on best available player
I agree with you for the most part but I think his biggest need is prob RB right? Jeanty and Mixon isn't a bad tandum but Henderson or Hampton on a 3 year deal seems like a worthy use of a 1st rounder. Will they be there in the 2nd so he should go more instant results and take Puka, Jacobs or Higgins @ 1,6?

This is my dilemma. The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward Henderson now. Not necessarily for this year, but for the next two seasons. With Vrabel there in NE now, he's going to run the ball. Also, I'm an OSU guy, so there's that factor as well.

In a normal draft, I definitely agree with you...this would be a no-brainer. But with the dynasty aspect to our league, we tend to value rookies a bit higher.
it is even more important to do it in a dynasty league. I would say in redraft your team construction plays a bit more of a role in the decision of who to take because you are trying to put together a one year run.

For dynasty you just need to draft people that earn a FF starting spot. The best chance you have at that is taking the best player available regardless of position.

@Gally rank

Jacobs
Higgins
Nacua
Henderson
Harvey
Golden
any other important rookies

I think thats what he's looking for or what he needs
The format is kind of odd in that he has 7 keepers but doesn't list any salary/contract info but them mentions that rookies get taken in an auction and can get 2 or 3 yr contracts. Assuming most impact rookies will be in the auction and not available to draft it kind of makes rookies even less valuable in the draft portion especially without knowing how that affects salary or contracts.

All that to say, I am ranking these guys according to a dynasty type league where you keep forever because I can't really assume anything else.

  1. Nacua
  2. Jacobs
  3. Higgins
  4. Henderson
  5. Harvey
  6. Golden

You're right, I should have listed the remaining contract years. Both QB's have two years remaining for me, while everyone else is on the last year for me. I'm close to talking the Bowers owner into trading Mahomes + Pitts + 3.01 for Bowers and 5.07.
