Draft Strategy (1 Viewer)

I’m queued up in the 6 spot in a standard 10-teamer using standard FBG scoring, with a 2QB, 2WR, 2RB, TE, RB/WR, WR/TE setup. Based on previous drafting strategies and ‘word of mouth’, I’m led to believe that Brady and Manning may very well be there at 1.06 and 2.05.

I don’t see this scenario as an AC forum question; instead, I was hoping to gain some input from others that might have been in similar situations – and the results of their decisions. Based on VBD, the DD highly advises pulling the trigger on both QBs. FWIW, I remember reading something about this last year but couldn't find it on the search engine.

Any input is highly appreciated.

i don't play in 2QB leagues, but i assume peyton will be long gone by 2.05 (i can't imagine brady at 1.06 either, but maybe your intel is correct).

if you could pull it off, i'd assume the benefit of getting 2 QBs would be offset by needing essentially 3 RBs and 4 WRs. if you want a 2nd top 5 qb, it seems like it be wise to see if a carson palmer lasts until 3.06. the 3rd rounds seems awfully long to wait to start filling your 7 RB/WR spots.

I appreciate the response. Rumor has it that Brady will fall to me, and scooping him up at 1.06 is a no brainer. Manning at 2.05 is plausible - mainly because the two guys that will be in position to grab him, IMO, won't. One of them will have Moss (this owner is conservative and I can't see him not taking a RB), and the other is scared of Manning's recent surgery. All of this is neither here nor there. I don't want this to be all about me, so sorry for rumbling on...but I just had to clarify.I know some FBG guys have to have been in similar situations once in their life. Was it successful? What would you do again in a similar situation?

No. It puts you too far behind at RB/WR. Brady isn't a no-brainer at 1.06. Peyton would be a no-brainer in the 2nd. Without seeing it unfold, I'd go into the draft thinking RB / WR / RB / BPA / BPA / BPA - preferably ending up with 1QB, 2 RB and 3 WR's through 6 with plans to address #2 QB shortly after that.

In a start 2qb league taking these two would put the others in a big hole. I'd do it. While they begin scrambling for qb's in rounds 3 and 4 you will still be able to find serviceable rb's and rec's.

I agree. Just make sure you have a backup plan in case Brady or Manning doesn't make it to you.

If I could pull this off I would consider it a huge advantage. Regardless of Peyton's surgery there isn't a team in any 2qb league that would be close at QB. There is still a lot of owners who talk about RB's but teams just aren't as loyal to the run as they used to be and who is set in stone as far as production, LT? LJ? ADP? Rb is as big of a question mark as I have seen in the 13 years that I have been doing fantasy FB. WR's may be a safer pick but I still would not pass on a Brady, Manning combo. Both will throw and will throw often.

I'd easily take Brady at 6th... in a 2 qb league you'll be seeing every potentially starting QB taken. The other way to go is RB RB and then 3 QBs... (I'm not kidding) the idea that RBs are a limited commodity is nothing compared to 20 starting QBs. If you're on the short end you'll lose. The advantage to waiting a couple rounds is that you see what other folks are doing. QBs could fly away or they could linger....

Either way Brady nets you a very strong point advantage as a 6th pick.

I say take both if they are there. They are consistant and could both put up huge years. If Manning falls to mid round 2 he is a huge steal IMO. He went Third in our draft overall (we live in Indiana ).

Getting both Brady and Manning would pretty much be a coup. The difference in QB pts would be very difficult for other teams to make up unless they hit the lotto.

Every 2QB draft I've seen has Brady 6 at latest and usually 3 or 4; Manning goes mid to late 1st.
