Draft Tips For A Newbie (1 Viewer)

We are having our draft tonight, and it's basically all baseball newbies. Any advice to avoid common draft mistakes?

10 teams

5x5

Snake draft

1 C, 6 IF, 5 OF, 1 util, 9 P and 3 bench

All MLB players eligible--commish didn't want to piss off those who wanted AL or vice versa

I am planning to use Rotowire software but am very open to alternatives.

So your only lineup requirements are 6 IF rather than 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, etc? If so, you will need to seriously adjust any rankings you see to discout the position scarcity factor.

My advice would be to not spend early picks on relievers. Their impact on your team's WHIP/ERA tends to be exaggerated given their low IP's.

In this format, I like to grab at least 1 guy who racks up a ton of steals even if he gives you nothing else. Getting a Figgins or Tavares usually doesn't require a high pick and they can carry you in 1 category and get sat down on the bench if you start to get hurt in other categories.

It might help if you added some specific questions. Good luck.

No--sorry to not be clear. 1c, 1 1b, 1 2b, 1 3b, 1 ss, 1 MI and 1 CI.MY intent was to see if there are any rules in FB similar to FF. ie Don't take kickers early etc.Thanks.

Power, Power and Power

get one good ( top 10 pitcher early- round 5 or so) and otherwise loadup on sticks;

sluff closers and then get two middle of the road guys and one cheap guy late

Power is the one thing that is hardest to find during the season and at least in the leagues I play in the toughest thing to accquire................

Good Luck

How about drafting the best player available vs. filling out positions?

Say the best player available in the 4th is a SS and you already have one, do you take him with one of the util positions in mind or do you take a player at an unfilled position?

What are the hardest positions to fill?

Thanks. I assume a stick is a middle of the road starter?What should I do with my 3 bench slots?

a stick is a bat, ie a hitterUtil spots usually come from OF, 1b, 3B or a true Dh ( Ortiz); these postions produce the most offensively. I would draft BAP the first few rounds, at a minimum, and then start filling in the gaps. Pay attention to Position Scarcity when doing the latter.Pitchers are tougher to predict, and are more widely available during the season.I would load up on BAP with Bench spots using a combonation of Pitchers and Hitters;

A stick is what you like to have strange women gyrate on while making out with them in Vegas. HTH.
