He's gone from a late round prospect to a likely first-day pick, and it's no fluke: Josh Johnson can play. This QB from San Diego is the NCAA's all-time leader in passing efficiency, and he also happens to be the best athlete at the position. Johnson won the MVP of the Shrine Game, and we'll show the practices leading up to the game to break down why he's a big-time prospect in the NFL.

He looks like a receiver with his build. Have you heard any rumors of him possibly being converted? Can he throw a laser? thx

He weighed in at 213 at SD's pro day. He ran a WC offense in college and has more football intelligence than people give him credit for. We all know the famous Jim Harbaugh quote, "If there was an SAT for football, Josh Johnson would ace it." When Harbaugh left for Stanford he asked Johnson to come with him. There are no rumblings or rumors of a position change amongst scouts. Here's a nice article re-capping his pro day.

He's just too good of a QB prospect to pass up. People always mention his footwork as a weakness, and I would like to clear that up. His footwork on his 3,5, and 7 step drops is phenomenal. he takes sure steps and gets into his drop right away. The one thing he needs to do is to use his lower body more to generate more power in his throws.

He has a good arm, but he tends to have deep passes flutter (not sail - deep accuracy is not a problem). The flutter makes the pass look ugly and when it's not a nice spiral it is a more difficult ball to catch. By using his hips more in his set up he could get that zip.

As noted in the episode, he is a great passer that can run. He knows how to read a defense and will exhaust all options before taking off and running.

He will see defenses throw coverages/disguises at him like he's never seen before. However, his work ethic, film study, and football smarts will help his learning curve be a shorter one.

yeah, i find him a very interesting prospect with his athleticism. His stats jump out with the 35 TDs and 5 INTs and 169 rating, makes me think he's got some vision that could translate. Plus the additional running game to keep the chains moving is always a plus. I started thinking he would be a good fit in Minnesota and we need a backup.

But looking at him, he doesn't look the part. He looks long and skinny. I can't envision him having the proper arm strength to burn a safety out of position. Hopefully, I'm misjudging the book cover since I haven't seen him play, I'm going to hunt down some videos of him if I can

thx Cece

u of san diego's website has some GREAT clips on him.

I have said for a while the only QB's who will live up to their billing are Henne and Johnson, I don't feel any different. Whoever scoops him up in the 3rd/4th round and lets him develop over 2-3 years will look like genius'. I am not concerned about his frame, don't take this as me comparing him to Tom Brady but look at Brady as a prospect before he was drafted. Skinny, not fit, and not the strongest arm. These are things that can be fixed. Knowing the game as well as Johnson does will always give him an advantage. I'm anxious to see where he goes in the real draft, I plan to draft and stash him in all of my dyno's.
