In response to a report from the San Diego Union-Tribune that cornerback Drayton Florence has a deal "all but done" with the Jags, a league source tells us that a deal is not imminent, or close.

Florence will visit with the Jags on Saturday, and he might work out a deal with them. But we're told that he's scheduling other visits and talking with other teams and isn't poised to sign with the Jaguars, or anyone.

With Asante Samuel signed and Marcus Trufant and Nnamdi Asomougha wearing the franchise tag, Florence is arguably the best free-agent option on the market at the position."

Not exactly the most ringing of endorsements, and it shouldn't be. Should make for a decent nickel corner, though.

Confirmed. Received evidently 12 mill in bonus money. While I am still waiting on the figures, I really like the signing. Nickle coverage has been a huge problem for the jags and became a spot of real concern in the post season. I like the signing in that Florence is certainly an upgrade over cousin and has some starting potential to push Brian Williams for the outside spot. Its a win-win situation for the Jags, provided they don't break the bank. This also sets up a BPA approach to the draft.

I love the signing. Like most agree, Florence will make a great nickel...and maybe push Brian Williams back to SS where he started his career. There has been talk of Reggie moving to corner to make room for Brian Williams in the safety spot - looks like that rumor might be nixed. Great news, too...I didn't want to see management stunt Nelson's growth. With Sensabaugh still pressing a safety spot, the Jags backfield definitely solidified its position.
