Drew Brees is playing at home (dome) and coming off (1 Viewer)

If Drew Brees were to snap out of his funk, it would seem this week to be the week. After an abismal intorduction to the 2007 season, he has not only let down his team, but he has let down the FF owenrs who put stock in his 2006 fantasy season.

For the rosters I do have Brees (1 or 2 leagues), this will be the last week I give him a starting chance. If Drew cant bring it together this week, with having a week off and playing at home, well, it just doesnt look like its ever going to happen.

I would love to buy low on Brees and/or Bush but the owner isn't selling. I have no doubt they will bounce back.

i traded for him last week on his bye. Plugged him in this week with the hopes that he gets his head out of is ###. We shall see.

I don't think he'll bounce back but I do think he'll do fine this weekend. Carolina is struggling almost as much as New Orleans so the quality of play is going to be bad on both sides.

I look for the *stars* like S. Smith, R. Bush and even Brees to all have decent games because the other side of the ball just isn't good enough to shut them done like other opponents have done.

So, I look for improvement from Brees this week but I believe it'll be an abberation, sort of like it was for McNabb when he played Detroit and everyone thought he was back.

I'm not sure what to make of Brees. I have an opportunity to get him at a reasonable price, (Cutler and Betts for Brees and Crayton to the Portis owner), and am scratching my head a bit. They have looked so terrible, but I also can't forget how great they were last year. I targeted Brees and Colston in a lot of my drafts but only snagged them in a few. I think the weapons are there. Henderson needs to be the #3 guy, not the #2 IMO. Colston, E. Johnson and Bush are nice weapons. What will help them turn it around?

Good chance he is.

I traded him straight up for Schaub in a keeper league. His #1 WR ( Reggie Bush ) is now the 20 carry RB - he will see fewer passes I think. Other than Colston, I dunno who the WR's will be for Brees.

Brees hasn't looked good, why i don't know. Its not a 1 game slump, its a 4 game, 2007 Season slump.

NO has had a pretty tough opening schedule. Indy, Tampa, TN are all playing good football. But the Saints just arent clicking. Its tough to put the finger on why theyve been horrible for 3 full games. The easiest case is that Brees has just been terrible. Teams are preparing for them a little differently this year no doubt, playing a little more 2 deep, but not to the point that the Saints would be this pathetic. Theyre not getting guys running for yards after the catch. That's their strength. With Patten and Henderson and Bush, you have some of the faster players in the league at their positions, but Brees needs to hit those guys in stride. It doesnt seem like the 'attack mode' has been there quite like last year. This week is absolutely the make/break week for Brees as far as Im concerened. If he doesnt put up atleast 250 with minimum 2 scores, coming off a bye week at home against a division opponent in a must win situation, Id be officially pressing the panic button if I were an owner. Playing a David Carr led Carolina team should be just what the doctor ordered.

You make some very good points here. Here's how I see the main reason for New Orleans/Brees strugglesLast year, there was the element of surprise. They were able to run all the gadget/trick plays with great success because team's did not anticipate this. As you mentioned, the fact that New Orleans played a last place schedule last year certainly helped them versus playing a first place schedule this year. However, I still think the play calling is a much bigger issue than the caliber of the opponents. You can't run the same gadget trick play over and over and over again as the Saints do. To compound matters, they are running these type of big risk plays in very important situations. Furthermore, they haven't been able to do any of the fundamental things of football such as running the ball consistently on first and/or second down. They were able to have a good amount of success running the football last year with McAllister/Bush and this certainly helped them be so explosive in the passing game. I just believe Payton is making things way too complicated for this team. You need to be able to do the fundamentals well before you can have success with less fundamental type plays particularly against the better competition they have faced this year. Just my .02

I have an even easier breakdown. Last year the O line blocked. Brees is pressured, throwing off the whole process and allowing for desperation to make players/coaches make mistakes. No holes for Deuce which means no way to set Ds up for a dose of Reggie. There have been some odd calls at odd times with bad results but it all starts up front, if they can right their ship then the trickle down effect will clear up a lot. Even moreso now that the Punder is out for the season.

:deadhorse: That's exactly the problem. The problem isn't Brees at all. Let's not forget how effortless he looked in the preseason completing pass after pass at an amazing completion %. The throws and decisions were right on the money. What's changed is that the defenses they've played are attacking the line of scrimmage and the O-line hasn't handled it AT ALL. There have been no holes to run through and Brees has had constant IMMEDIATE pressure in his face. He works well with a little time and passing lanes to throw, neither of which he's had. Couple in sub-par play from some of the other guys (Reggie reverting back to dancing, Henderson dropping balls, etc.) and some pretty questionable play calling and you have the pitiful New Orleans that we've seen the 1st 3 week. All that being said, a few minor adjustments and this offense can jump by leaps and bounds and revert to the success of last year much easier than most any other team in the league. If they don't do that this week, I think there's little hope we'll see it at all for the rest of the year.l

Im starting brees one last time this week.

I had him all of last year and it was great (got him in the 6th round some said it was a little high before the season started)

If he sucks this week then its time for the perma bench until 2 straight weeks of good performances to prove hes worth a start on my team.

Permabench.Absolutely shocking how bad he has been. Watching him play this year I can't believe he's the same guy from 04-06. I never thought I'd see him look worse than he did in 2003, but he is.

The Saints reminded me of the old Seahawks with all of those dropped passes. Devery Henderson needs to sneak in some stick-em.

Coming off a bye week and losing to the David Carr lead Panthers is about as low as it gets. Stick a fork in this team, they're done.

I'm thinking the Saints are waiver wire fodder in my 10 team league. It seems to be a complete meltdown by the whole team. The O line is not blocking, they can't run the ball, receivers not getting open, dropped passes, injuries, poor QB play, etc. Maybe the people who said they overachieved last year were right. Carolina had 2 sacks and no interceptions coming into this game. They had no sacks today but still got two picks so I'm tired of hearing about pressure on Brees. Nine picks in 4 games after 11 all of last year and 1 TD to 26 last year.

Henderson has always had brick mits. It was ridiculous how he caught the ball last year. Now he is back to normal. This team lost to David Carr. That's how far they have fallen.

The whole team looked bad, but only one INT was his fault. The other one went off the hands of the receiver.

As a Drew Brees owner...this is tough. But he did have a couple of TD's called back.
Sad to see Bree's playing like he is, I think its time to search for another option.
I benched him after week #2 and have not looked back. The advice I've received is to wait until he starts to play well then think about it starting him again. So far I have not had to think about much. So far he's the biggest bust for most drafts.

Brees is terrible. Worst starting QB in the league, and it's really not even close.

What's funny is that he seems to be getting a free pass around here. Yeah, the offensive line is bad, but half of Brees' bad throws have come when there's no pressure on him at all.

What's worse, he is very complacent. He shows very little heart. He's fine as long as things go well but when things aren't going so well he just falls apart.

If you replaced Brees with someone like Tony Romo this team could easily be 2-2.

Since noone in my league wants to do any trading (probably because I offer them lopsided ones :lmao: ), I just dropped brees and picked up Warner.....I can't believe he was still on waivers, but we only start 1 QB and it's a 10-team league...still surprised though....happy to see brees go...I have enough question marks on my team and I would never trust to start him now....can't believe it after all the high expectations...let him take up a bench spot on someone else's roster... :goodposting:

astonishing! just unreal. Who in New Orleans watching these games can really explain this to us outsiders? I dont own Brees, but seeing all the dropped passes, with no Deuce, and now looking over the #s is just the head scratcher of the year to me. 1TD and 9 picks for Brees? That is crazy horrible. If I were to own bot Steven Jackson and Brees, I would be far more disappointed in Brees because I just couldnt put my finger on the problem.
