If you were heading to Blacksburg from the DC beltway between 5-6 PM tomorrow, would you make better time going out rte 66 to 81, or go down 95 south and cutting over to 81 around Fredericksburg, or am I equally screwed going either way, since I've chosen to hit the area during Friday afternoon rush hour? Will answer yours. TIA.

You're screwed going west on 66. You'll be in utter hell going south on 95 though. Take 66. If it's bad you can 267 to 28 to 50 to 15 and jump on 66 just passed Gainesville and be fine.

66 would be your best option.95 on a Friday afternoon is out of the question,you could get lucky but I highly doubt it.

I will also second what Ramblin Wreck just suggested as the go around.
