Does that make it "wrong"?
Of course it does.  Doing something unsafe just to show the tailgater who's boss is clearly wrong.  Just be the bigger man and either slow down to give yourself more room to stop if something happens in front of you, and move over and let him by at your first opportunity.  Leave the highway whose-is-bigger contest for the 20-somethings.

This may be the first time DW has ever been wrong about anything since the dawn of time.
I wonder if protective husband and father Otis would be of that opinion if his wife were driving his children in the oncoming lane as the tailgater's car was careening towards them, out of control.  That Otis just might think both the tailgater and the brake checker, both, deserved a thorough stomping for bringing their issues onto the road.

Tailgater precipitated the incident.  Brake checker escalated it into a potential crisis.  Innocent travelers had nothing to d with it.  I bet the truck driver taking the video thought, just another day on the roadways.

BTW, I appreciate the sentiment, but I recall being wrong about the ability to tempt you off your diet resolve by delivery of treats.  You would not be tempted by me, or others.  Only you could tempt you.

That guy was tailgating pretty damn close. I'd say 10 feet tops. Good thing the middle barriers did their job otherwise it would have been much worse.

Does seeing brake lights automatically mean "brake checking"???

Cause in this video, that sure didn't look like brake checking.  I would consider brake checking to be a purposeful quick slow down in order to force the gator to have to brake.

That was not the case here.

Article from WKOW in WI.

LITTLE CHUTE, WI (WKOW) --- A highway crash in Little Chute, Wisconsin is causing social media buzz after video of the accident was posted to YouTube.

According to WBAY, Fox Valley Metro police are investigating the crash.

The video shows an SUV following another vehicle closely while they were southbound on Interstate 41 Thursday.  The front driver tapped the breaks which resulted in the driver following ending up in the median.

Police say the driver who crashed was cited.

As for the driver who tapped the brakes, they haven’t been identified.

Tailgater who is also a terrible driver.....How do you overreact like that.
Easy...

obviously was not a man.

The tailgater is wrong ...but think about any kids that could have been hurt badly in the ####### tailgator's car.  The guy that did the quick brake, though in the right, pushed the situation over the edge.

When your tailgating me you are putting MY family in danger.

The brake tap is a signal to back off. ....If you over react and lose control of your car then let the air bags do their job.

That sums it up well (again, and that is even "IF" that is why that person tapped their brakes in the first place).

I hope it was to get out of his car to point and laugh.
Subsequent video I have seen on this runs another 15 seconds or so.  It shows the lead driver getting over to the right lane and continuing on down the roadway with no indication they were intending to stop, at least in the limited extended time frame shown.

Did the lead car even know the guy spun out?  Looked like he very easily coulda turned off the cruise, signaled, and got over.  Ya know, normal driving.

YOU'RE putting your family in danger.  Highly more probable than the comedic scenario in the video, is the possibility that the guy doesn't react in time and rear ends your vehicle with your precious family.  Father of the year award to brake checking dad that had to enforce the rules of the road by making an unsafe situation even less safe.

So the guy will rear end you when you tap the brakes and don't even slow down??? :wall:

This thread reminds me why I'm looking forward to driverless cars - I won't have to deal with tailgaters, brake checkers or any of a hundred other things idiot drivers do.

I'm sure the family who collides head-on with the tailgater will appreciate your confidence in automotive safety equipment.

What?  That's exactly what it looked like here unless it's normal to randomly brake in the passing lane with absolutely nothing in front of you.

It's normal to brake (or disengage cruise control) to get over in between two other cars when you have a crazy ### jagoff gator up your ###.

How did the tailgater get cited?  I'm assuming it wasn't at the scene since I doubt any witnesses stayed around. Did the cops really track him down after the video went viral?

It was a pretty bad accident even if it only involved one car.  I'm making assumptions, but I'm sure that police were called out to the scene, and an accident report was filed that contained the drivers information.  After seeing the video, it wasn't too hard for the police to connect the dots to the accident.

You are assuming the brake check is so agressive the tailgater has to do an evasive maneuver. Most of the time it's a quick tap, barely even slow down, just enough to light the brake lights. If that causes the tailgater to careen into oncoming traffic they were an accident waiting to happen.

Wouldnt be too hard to just cite the guy for failure to control. After all, he failed to control.  Was kinda obvious

"Yes Mr. Officer, I was in the passing lane and the guy in front of me just hit the brakes FOR NO Reason!" "There was no place for me to go."

Officer: "O.K. then Ms. Cantbelate. Here's your citation."
