Dwight Freeney done for the season. (1 Viewer)

The Indianapolis Star reports that Colts DE Dwight Freeney is expected to miss the rest of the season with a left foot injury. Freeney hurt his foot late in Week 10 at San Diego and will likely have season-ending surgery. The club added DE Simeon Rice earlier in the week to fill in for Freeney.

Too bad for the Colts. Not surprising though when I saw him on the cart with his foot wrapped in ice/ace bandages....

Colts are all done. No way they can compete with the Pats now.

I'll wait until he's officially on IR - but even the rosiest scenario (if this report jumped the gun) is that he'd play in the playoffs at about half-speed. I'm just hoping that he can recover for next season - and that isn't at all certain.

If the Colts GET to the AFC Championship game now, that would be a major accomplishment. My expectations for this team are lowered now.

Yep, I hate these type of injuries for all concerned. He's a great player and there just isn't anyone on that team to replace what he brings to the table.Sorry for Colts fans and football fans in general. Hope he heals up and comes back solid next year.

Colts are still the best team in the league I think. Simeon Rice should be a fine replacement for now.

FF wise, how bad does this hurt the Colts "D"? Will they still be a top Def, or does that drop their ceilling significantly (S Rice for Freeney)

I'll be interested to see how simeon Rice does in a different system. The Broncos brought him in and he underperformed so Denver cut him. We'll see if it was the Broncos system or Rice himself that led to the disappointment!

They play crappy offenses the rest of the regular season (the "best" offense left is the Jaguars), so it should still be good enough to start with the right matchups. The true loss of Freeney would be felt during the playoffs.

Good question. I'm thinking of dropping them in my league for other alternatives. I think the loss of Freeney will make it very difficult for the Indy defense to get pressure on the QB for sacks and turnovers.

As I said before - I wouldn't drop them because of their very favorable schedule.

I agree. I'm not dropping them, dropping my backup kicker instead. I want to see how they play this weekend before I make the judgement call on them for the season

Why is this funny? My kicker was on bye last week (Gostowski) and I picked up Mare as a replacement. I'm failing to see the humor in this?

Ddin't Rice play well in Tampa, the same system Dungy employs? Actually I think Rice is the perfect fill in, despite not being Freeney, he is a speed rusher who brings the same qualities to the table as Freeney.

Im giving Peyton a bump. losing Freeney is huge to this D. He is arguably the best pass rusher in the NFL. I see this D giving up a few more points a game now.

Damn. It happens on a pretty innocuous play too. He's one of those defensive guys that I can be entertained by simply by watching his pass rush moves - we're missing out on some inspired play because he wont be there for stretch run and playoffs. Sad to see both of the 'Cuse Colts hobbled.

Colts will miss freeney, but they will shift some stuff around. Mathis could be moved into freeney spot. Rice, brock, dawson will be part of the rotation at le. Johnson, klecko, pittcock, brock dt. I think the colts will survive this and win the afc south..

Actually, Freeney's departure should help the Colts against the run. IMO that is a glaring weakness in Freeney's game. It was easy for teams to run to his side because of his speed rush. Of course the pass rush and overall scheme of the Colts is hurt by Freeney's injury.
