Dynasty 3rd pick in 12 team/30 player roster (1 Viewer)

Wieters will be the 1st pick, I've already confirmed that.

My team is young and developing, so I'm going with a youngster over a guy that might help me this year (think Werth, Theriot, Kotchman, LaRoche, etc).

Top youngsters Yahoo just added this year:

Jarrod Parker P

Austin Jackson OF

Trevor Cahill P

Brett Anderson P

Lars Anderson 1B

Fernando Martinez OF

Andrew McCutchen OF

Jordan Schafer OF

Matt Laporta 1B/OF

I'm leaning hitter as I have Price, Adenhart, Gio, Morrow, Scherzer, Parra, Andy Miller, and Litsch as young arms mixed in with Slowey, Snell and Floyd. I'd probably not hesitate to add Parker or Cahill or B. Anderson in the 2nd round in place of probably Adenhart.

Personally I've narrowed the hitter list to Laporta, McCutchen and Lars in no particular order. Do you agree and how do you rank them? Am I selling Schafer short? I could use an OF by the way.

I hate wasting early picks on pitchers unless it's a guy I'm very confident will produce for many years at major league levels. I've been burned countless times with pitchers.

Saying this, I also have Jarrod Parker on a dynasty team, and like his upside. But, I wouldn't draft him here. I think him and Anderson both may be keepers, wait till later rounds.

I'd rank them McCutcheon and Lars Anderson as the two I'd be looking at most heavily. I can see a case for Laporta too. Martinez is too far down the road for my likings.

Ya I'm pretty torn between those two. Laporta is my homer pick, but a good case can be made for him just based off of Dellucci/Francisco. The Tribe won't give them until July to get things rolling and Dellucci can be cut since he's in the last year of his contract.

Agree on the pitching front. Plus, I hauled Price last year after I had already sniped Scherzer.

I'm not sold on McCutchen as a fantasy pick. It's hard to see what category he'll contribute in, at least in the short term. I don't know what happened in AAA last year but his SB% was way down. I don't want to overreact if he was playing through a minor injury but 34 SB in 53 attempts isn't going to get him a green light in the majors. The only other area he'd provide a positive contribution in the next couple of seasons is in R if the Bucs install him at the top of the order in spite of his OBP.

He's still very young. He will develop more power and hopefully cut down on the strikeouts. McCutchen is supposedly a plus defender which will be an improvement over McLouth but it won't help you in fantasy.

how about hanson, bumgarner or porcello. these guys are all future frontline aces.

some good names out there, but definitely try to get Hanson. He may not impact this year, but he is filthy and projected as a #1 on any major league staff as early as 2010 more likely 2011.

I buckled and took Hanson. My pitching is horrible, gotta go after a stud arm when I can.

2nd round coming up. I'm looking real good for one of Lars/Fernando/Fowler. What do you think of Elvis and Alcides?

2 questionsIs this like a supplemental minor league draft....Are you passing up major league guys to take these guys?

Are these the only names left or the only ones you want us to chose from?

Can choose any player in Yahoo. The list above are the minor leaguers that I notice most on prospect lists or that I know something about. Actually, this year it seems Yahoo has put more players in their system prior to their debut in the majors. With 12 owners and 30 player rosters the pickings are slim when it comes to FAs. The only non prospect taken so far (almost done with round 1) has been Ianetta (edit: and now Melvin Mora).

We also have a two player farm team in that 30, so some teams are filling that requirement.

Some players out there include:

Werth, Theriot, Polanco, Hudson, LaRoche, Jose Guillen, Kotchman, Salty, Lowrie, Jacobs, Kubel, Lewis

Wandy, Kawakami, Cook, Heilman, Okajima, Wellemeyer

I'd rather take another youngster and then make a few moves after the draft on a few guys above. I bolded the few that I'm thinking about right now.

cool. Well, thaat is awesome you got Hanson. You wont regret it!As far as guys that are left...i think either alcides or andrus are good options as you noted. I would personally go with Lars, then Alcides. Andrus is going to play this year, which is good. Fowler came out of nowhere, but has skyrocketed up. Wade Davis is great, but when is he going to get a chance???

Ended up trading for another pick in the 2 round draft (gave up Smoltz for it). Three picks were Hanson, Lars, and then Andrus (Alcides was gone). Would you, or anyone, move Hanson right now straight up for Snider? Other guy is really pushing for it, makes me nervous, but I know that is just how the guy is.

well, Snider is starting the year in the majors whereas Hanson probably isnt. Snider is going to be good, but i feel like Hnason will be elite someday soon enough. I probably would hold Hanson.
