Dynasty Auction Advice (1 Viewer)

I am starting a slow auction draft soon for a dynasty auction league and it is a little more complex than I have drafted in before. Mainly the issue is there is a salary cap of $500. I have never been in a league with a salary cap before so I was hoping to get some good advice on a draft budget here. I figure I need to go into it with an approach along the lines of "I have $400 for the draft, so I have $100 to sign free agents throughout the season." Is this the usual approach. Any thoughts and advice is welcome. Thank you.

I would take cues from the rest of your leaguemates about salary leftover after the auction. This also depends on how deep your rosters are.

I'm finished up a $50K auction league. the highest owner has $6K, some owners have close to $0, and there's a few in between.

My general advice would be to go high for young WR's and stud QBs. Longer shelf life than RBs and IDP values can change drastically from year to year depending on situation.

Seems like year 1 there's more value to be had in the draft than in-season pickups. With deep rosters, most in-season pickups will be just that...replaced by start of next year. Not that many VCruz or AFosters running around.

For Dynasty, focus on an excellent QB (or two young up and comers) and stud WRs under the age of 25-26. With required TE, I'd spend for Graham/Gronk too. If you are unsure who to take, take guys taken in the 1st-2nd NFL rounds. Not that many M.Colstons running around.

Then pickup every $1 backup/rookie running back you can get. Get some highly drafted young WRs also. Why spend $30 on a Free Agent RB who the flavor of the week in season when you can get 5 of those guys for $1/each at the draft and sit on them like lottery tickets. Read about and scoop up guys with TALENT, not necessarily best circumstances.

So it would seem that it would make more sense to plug $500 in as the cap in the Draft Dominator and use those price guidelines when drafting then, as opposed to $400 or some other lesser number. One of the major issues I'm having is coming to terms with each player's value in an auction with an amount greater than $200. All the auctions I have been in have been relatively the same. This one is so much different. Thanks for the tips. Any others?

just multiply all player values by 2.5 (500/200)

Is it an auction league or salary cap league? That would make a huge difference in terms of strategy.

It is a salary cap league. Sorry that wasn't clear. What kind of difference in strategy would that make? I figured it would be different but I'm not sure what differences I may encounter down the road.
