Reports are that Levy is out as starter this year, despite Schwartz's original plan. He'll be backing up all three LB positions. This shouldn't surprise anyone though, considering the signing of MLB Larry Foote just a few weeks ago. Maybe the only good thing for Levy owners is that Foote is working on a 1-year deal here.

But it seems odd for a HC to rule someone out before they even get to training camp. Perhaps this is being taken out of context?

i don't think so. schwartz said following the draft that he wanted levy to be the starting MLB. foote becomes available and is signed shortly thereafter. i think it's a case of experience winning out here, as much as anything. levy didn't play the position in college. levy will serve as a back-up to all three starters.

Recently grabbed Levy with a 5th rd pick and I'm actually happy that he will most likely be a rotational backup, to give him a year to learn the system. Since I can start Ruud/Lewis at my LB spots, the extra development should only help him and then eventually take over as a starting LB in place of Lewis...

At best he would appear to be the long term LB4 for the Lions. Even if he secures a nickel role and produces like Leon Williams, it would appear Levy is the next player off the bench at either MLB or WLB.

I doubt anything's written in stone. If he outplays the other LB's I doubt they keep him out.

I got Foote for Fred Taylor in one league in case this happened but not the others.
