These are consensus dynasty rankings for year 2007 1pt./tackle .5pt assist 3pt./sack or interception 2pt. forced fumble/fumble recovery 1pt./pass defensed.

If you vote other, please specify.

Also, please comment on your vote, and list any player that should be nominated for the next round. By doing this we can get some good information about players being considered here and why. If everyone contributes then each poll position can be similar to a player spotlight. That is idealy what I would like to see. I definitly need feedback on what players you think should be on these polls that may not be. I do not have as much knowledge of IDPs as I do offensive players so all of the good players on defense are not neccessarily in my forward memory banks so to speak. So I need some help from the rest of your there.

1. Keith Bulluck 4/4/1977

2. Demeco Ryans 7/28/1984

3. Brian Urlacher 5/25/1978

4. AJ Hawk 1/6/1984

5. Will Witherspoon 8/19/1980

6. Jonathan Vilma 4/16/1982

7. Lofa Tatupu 11/15/1982

8. Shawne Merriman 5/25/1984

9. Lance Briggs 11/12/1980

10. Kirk Morrison 2/19/1982

11. Ernie Sims 12/23/1984

12. Antonio Pierce 10/26/1978

13. Mike Peterson 6/17/1976

I think many people are making a common dynasty mistake, which is to disregard elite older players for younger ones with potential. Guys like Zach Thomas and Donnie Edwards are so explosive they'll win you IDP leagues - I'd much rather have them right now just for a few years than some youngster who might or might not be the next great thing.

Your point is well taken Portis 26. This always seems to be the case. It really depends on ones philosophy.

I think there has been some good discussion of this here: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...=296123&hl= I think this needs to be looked at a lot more. I also tried to start a similar discussion of this for the IDP side here: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...=299027&hl= This thread has not progressed as far as I hoped it might.

I think older players carry more value in dynasty on the defensive side of the ball than on offense for 2 reasons:

1. Defensive players rely more on instinct and experience in reading and reacting to the offense or anticipating what the offense will do. I think this is more important than using ones physical ability to beat your opponent.

2. There are more IDP players available to roster than skill players on offense that get playing time. This makes a old player more easily replacable on defense than a skill player on offense.

There may be more reasons than these 2 but I think both are these are significant enough to give older IDPs more value than you might for offensive players.

Another reason is the higher volatility of IDP players in general. Scheme and position changes happen frequently and severely affect value, far more than on offense. As a result, it's tough to predict any player two years out, meaning that you might be better off going with an old guy who only has two good seasons left instead of a younger guy you're predicting out five years.

How can Adalius Thomas not be ranked higher? with the amount of sacks he gets along with a decent amount of tackles...he should be higher.

Brooking too. Noone's been more consistent.

I am a bit suprised at the support for Angelo Crowell. I realise that people are speculating he will take over at MLB for Fletcher if Fletcher leaves as a free agent this year. However this does not mean that Crowell is the same level of talent as Fletcher is. Even if he does take over as the Bills MLB that doesen't mean he will put up numbers similar to what Fletcher has.

I am not in total disagreement with people voting for Crowell here. I am just a bit suprised by it when options such as Zach Thomas and Keith Brooking are available. Using this same thinking for Crowell that would make Channing Crowder a player to consider here.

Too many votes based on "perceived potential". And not enough on proven players. Seems to be alot of inexperienced IDP's voting in these polls.

Is it time to throw Thurman out there?
Not in my opinion... do we know the final extent of his suspension/rehab? Do we know exactly what the suspension was for? (rumored to be crack which as anyone who frequents the FFA can attest to, can be a crippler) Is his weight back up to suitable MLB status? Will he be part of a mass exodus of Bengal miscreants? A lot of this is speculation but it severely depresses his value IMO.
