I'm not sure if its a good deal or not...but that is about what he goes for in these. This is only my second auction...so I'm learning. What are the usual % you apply to players?

MJD went for about $120 in the $400 auction I did last year. We started 1 less flex than your starting lineup.

I'm in a redraft/keeper auction draft, but never done a dynasty auction. $115 (~~28%) for MJD seems like a good deal...?
It's a good price. Everyone is different, but I estimate a top-tier RB (CJ/ADP/MJD/Rice) to be worth 30%, or $120.Here is an auction lineup I put together 2 weeks ago using the same theory. (We bid on the rookie picks, so they count as players) The one diff here is that the league in this thread has a 22 man roster. This one had a 24 man roster, so the $400 had to go farther. Nope. Having fun not running it for once! And, I'm confident...

I don't know much about auctions, but it seems like someone either got a great deal on Schaub or someone overpaid considerably for Kolb.

They were both more expensive than I thought they would be...but certainly Kolb by a greater margin. Interested to see how the rest of the QBs shake out.

I don't know much about auctions, but it seems like someone either got a great deal on Schaub or someone overpaid considerably for Kolb.
i have Schaub as being worth about $38 in a $400 auction, with 25 roster spots. but i think i have ranked lower than most others. if you were to consider him as the 5th best QB, he'd be worth about $58 on my chart.

funny. if the bids that are currently high hold, nearly every one of those players is going at exactly where i have him slotted. strange.we start our PPR Dynasty Startup Auction staturday morning.

Crazy high bids on QBs going on here, I keep looking to make sure this isn't Start 2 or 6pts for all TDs with these prices.

I'm in a very similar league -- same roster sizes, starters. Only difference is PPR. In that league, only QB above 50 is Peyton (53). I had Schaub for $20, which was right around 8th highest QB cost in the league. This is 3rd year coming up and first two years we only had 2-3 QBs per year above $30.

I would really expect good value in the 8-12 QB range when people get low on cash.

I have only done one other dynasty auction ----a couple years ago. But I do play at least one redraft auction yearly if not more.

A player like CJ Rice and ADP will go for ridiculous amounts like 130-150 but again its a redraft. Why they go for more in those is beyond me.

Now.....you can say people are overbidding here (I feel like the prices are run up also) but you will see value later. PROBLEM is you still need to get a guy in the overpay market too or you will end up with a lot of good priced Housh players.......but you will have no studs either. That is the difficult part. Even if you have 5 Housh type WRs at a good price you wont be able to trade them because few people trade for Housh type players. So your gonna have to make some decisions regardless to get a possible over priced guy and build around him.

Later when this draft carries out........everyone will be here saying WOW I cant believe how cheap you got those players.....because your right everyone will be out of money. There is always 2-3 guys that hold a good wallet size in the draft though and they will run up the prices with you too.

My point is this........I would rather over pay for a stud player than over pay for Housh. That is what would make me dang mad HAHA

Agreed. I'd rather pay a good price for a great asset than a great price for a good one. If the studs are 10% over value, you have to ante up to at least roster 1 or 2. The value on players will fall. For example, the QB bubble is bursting. The last two (Manning and Brady) went for about normal value. The earliest QBs (Rodgers, Schaub, Kolb) went for far above the usual price.

You are going heavy into the QB area - are you planning to trade one?
I'm just showing what the players went for not my individual team. I haven't even won a player yet :lmao:

This is my thinking as well. I think there was a lot of excitement when the auction started, and when you combine a bunch of geeked guys with only 12 new players to bid on each day the prices get driven up early on. Everybody is looking to land their first key player and get some direction for their future bids. Plus there's a little excitement that comes with landing your first player and some of us just gave in to that. The lesson learned here is do not nominate players you want early on. A couple guys I really wanted were nominated early on by others, were bid up beyond my range, and just like that I was coming up with a new strategy.I did make sure to get a couple anchors before the rush of studs ended, even if meant overpaying, but so far I've been patient enough not to add a 3rd overpriced stud (its been awfully tempting though). I got Fitzgerald at 94 which I felt was a good price based on Andre Johnson going for 100 and Roddy/Austin about 85 each. And I grabbed Rodgers for 77, which I don't think is a bad price really, but afterwards guys like Peyton and Rivers went for about 50 so I definitely jumped the gun there and that's my only regret about that purchase. I just don't want to end up in the situation where there is one stud WR left on the board and 5 owners feeling like they are one stud WR away from a championship team. Talk about overpaying, and for a guy you may not necessarily have hand picked. by the way, the 1,01 pick sold for low 60s yesterday if I'm remembering correctly, and the 1,02 currently has a high bid of 77. It just goes to show so much of a players final cost is determined by when they were nominated.

Actually that's me and mistakes happen in auction :shrug:I was fully expecting to get outbid on manning at 51. Oh well I got them both cheap so it's all good. I'll bet set for a long time with those two.

Why they go for more in those is beyond me.Now.....you can say people are overbidding here (I feel like the prices are run up also) but you will see value later. PROBLEM is you still need to get a guy in the overpay market too or you will end up with a lot of good priced Housh players.......but you will have no studs either. That is the difficult part. Even if you have 5 Housh type WRs at a good price you wont be able to trade them because few people trade for Housh type players. So your gonna have to make some decisions regardless to get a possible over priced guy and build around him.Later when this draft carries out........everyone will be here saying WOW I cant believe how cheap you got those players.....because your right everyone will be out of money. There is always 2-3 guys that hold a good wallet size in the draft though and they will run up the prices with you too.My point is this........I would rather over pay for a stud player than over pay for Housh. That is what would make me dang mad HAHA
Agree with this Coin. I was planning on being very frugal as it's worked for me before, but you have to walk that fine line. You can end up with a team of 2nd tier players for a good price. BUT..can't trade em and once you see every team paying for at least one stud you realize your really not saving much in the end for a team of Breaston's, and the pickins get slim. I was not planning on the CJ move at all but then he began to make more sense, and ####. If I'm gonna pay top $ for a player I better really like him!And yes, I was surprised Manning went so cheap and he got a bit caught having Brady as well. As you said the value comes later all the time. This is different with a whole board of players to bid on at once instead of one at a time.

Schaub > Peyton ???auctions sure are hard to figure out
You are going heavy into the QB area - are you planning to trade one?
Actually that's me and mistakes happen in auction :thumbdown:I was fully expecting to get outbid on manning at 51. Oh well I got them both cheap so it's all good. I'll bet set for a long time with those two.
iI had $ on Rivers and figured he'd go for a bit less then Manning or I would've kept bidding bid up on Peyton. I did and he still went cheap!

Yeah we got lucky with them going so cheap. If one of those three received bids they all would have.

How long do you expect the draft to go on for, do you have to hole the winning bid for 24 hours?Interesting to watch this unfold.

Its proxy bidding so you have to hold the proxy bid for 24 hrs. Other teams cannot see your high bid though so you can raise it if they get close and you dont want the timer to reset or you can lower it also at anytime.

I am running a redraft league this same way but it doesnt begin until August. Some of those players go for a different fee due to the league not being a dynasty.

That's why you HAVE to do auctions LIVE... Only way to do it..... Think fast, adjust on the fly.. If you've ever done a live auction you'd never go back to this way.... Some of those results are a tad bit surprising, but with 24 hours to occur in between, things will change fluctuate so drastically, you never know what will happen...

Only part that sucks is there are only one or two hosts for live auctions so you are limited to when you can have them.... ESPN has a nice one, but won't be available to June or July.....

I did my first auction last year in the 24-hour format and I thought it was great, I have never done the live format. I have a 24-hour type coming up soon and I have been preparing and looking forward to it. Now I rarely have to work any weekends but guess what - I find out I have to work the weekend that my draft starts so I am very glad it is the 24 hour format.

I've done live auctions before, this is my first slow one. I definitely prefer this way, at least for dynasty, but I probably would for redraft too.

They both have their positives and negatives. 24 hour slow draft is by far the easiest way logistically, especially with the explosion of online leagues.I'll tell you one thing, I will never go back to a serpentine draft though. Auctions are way better for dynasty IMO.

Thx for doing this :headbang:

This is certainly different then Serp. Very addicting. This is actually harder in many ways then the live. Gives guys plenty of time to plan. There is NOTHING like the live Auction though and I think and hope, as time goes on more sites will offer it as player demand rises as well.

I have done both live and 24 hr proxy. If you cannot be around to draft a serpentine draft and are a draft killer.....auctions of the 24 hr content are great. Plus its nice to grab a cup of coffee in the morning and get started reviewing things.........in this off season time I prefer slow drafts. When the season gets going LIVE ROCKS.

Very happy with Wayne at $64. At this price, he is the 11th most expensive WR. Colston may push him to 12th ($2 under at $62).

I know you pay for youth in a dynasty start-up, but I think Wayne is a lock for top 11/top 12 numbers over the next 3 years. At $20+ under the other WR1s, it allows me to gain elsewhere.

So far, still surprised at the price of picks. 7 picks for over $260 at this point.

Forte at $38 seems like an absolute steal, no? I've never done an auction draft before, nor am I a Forte fan, but going for just over half of Wells' value seems cheap to me.

He's about a 5th rounder in startups so far this year...so that value is actually about right.

*** SPOILER ALERT! Click this link to display the potential spoiler text in this box. ***");document.close();I may have overpaid for Crabtree @ $70, but I like his potential and considering he went for less than Dez, I'm happy.

Interesting comment Fubar.
are you NOLA? In that case, considering Rodgers went for less than Brees, I'm also happy.MJD for ~$20 less than AD and CJ also makes me happy. Basically I'm a happy guy. There are some big time values here, on my chart - estimated to real, Colston, MJD, Grant, Fitz and Wells were the best values.

Interesting about W Welker and what he will go for. Safe to say that no one knows when he will come back and what he will be able to do once he returns? Maybe 2010 is a wash out for him ?

I'm joining my first dynasty league this year so thanks for doing this.

I'm eager to see how "dollar days" goes in a dynasty start-up.

In redraft there are always a handful of forgotten players who end up going for ridiculously low prices just because all but the wise few have blown their wad.

Does this happen in dynasty? Or are people more careful with their money/picks because they know they're stuck with their decisions?
