How do you find new dynasty leagues forming up?

I would like a dynasty league for 2011 without IDP - what websites support these type of leagues?

After the Super Bowl you will start to see threads here of people forming new leagues, although things don't start to get really serious until about the time of the NFL draft and peaking usually before training camps open in August (then redraft mania takes over). Message boards on sites that specialize in Dynasty leagues are another place to look, although (oddly) most of those (like DynastyGuys.com) had fewer threads about new leagues starting than was found here last season.

Thanks. I really like the couple keeper leagues I joined this year, after 10 years of redraft only. Dynasty seems to be more difficult to find a start up without IDP.

You are right, it seems about half of the start up Dynasty leagues that were posted here last year were IDP, while in redraft it is only about 10% of all leagues (I would guess). Perhaps the more hardcore FF player is involved in IDP - it never appealed to me since it took me long enough to get the offensive side of the ball down and any new league you join with a format you are unfamiliar with puts you at a distinct disadvantage as far as the initial draft is concerned (I wouldn't have a clue how to draft in IDP). Another trend I don't care for is the number of start up leagues with some slots for developmental players. The whole point of this is to give those who closely follow college football an edge, as the best players won't make it to the rookie draft. And there is also blind bidding for free agents, which was started by WCOFF and should never be part of a dynasty league IMO as it takes away one of the few ways for a doormat team to improve themselves. Blind bidding is a skill contest and the whole purpose is to give the better teams a shot at acquiring a player they would never get in a worst-to-first format. What this means is that if you take over a bad team in a blind bidding system. you will probably have to rebuild by using the rookie draft (unless you make good trades, but trading also involves skill). So, instead of building a competative team in 2-3 years, you are probably looking at a 4-5 year process. If you have the time and inclination, it might be a good idea to consider forming your own league, since you can tailor it to what you are looking for, rather than join a league with rules you don't care for.

I've thought about starting a dynasty league - but honestly, my fear is that some from my home league would join (but they are mainly guppies), so I think they would quit after a couple championships by me or having an inferior team that doesn't "start over" like in redrafts. And as commissioner, I would need to solicit new owners for the vacant teams or the league implodes. I play in the keeper leagues from PhenomsFF - and I am confident that if anyone left from those leagues that the teams would get claimed and the league would survive. Playing commissioner I feel could be a lot of work all for not within a years from start-up.

I think the main work in starting a league is the first year with the rules set up and getting in the initial other 11 owners (if you go for a 12 team league). You wouldn't have to include people in your home league if you didn't want to. I am in 6 leagues and the turnover of owners is about 1-2 teams a year (although it usually the same franchises for some reason). One league had 4 vacancies and filled all 4 within a couple weeks. Another league is a 30 roster limit and had two horrible teams that will take 3-5 years to rebuild and those were filled without any problems. Of course I guess if running a league was that easy I would practice what I preach and do it myself - which I never seem to get around to. :(

I may be starting another dynasty league for committed, long term, active owners right after the super bowl if there is enough interest, it will be only for experienced and seasoned owners. The cost will be $155, 14 teams, 32 man rosters, with league safe, commish with 20+ years experience. Send message with your experience level if interested.
